Giambi---> A's
The Oakland Athletics and free agent first baseman and designated hitter Jason Giambi are on the verge of agreeing on a one-year deal with an option for 2010, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The deal would pay Giambi, who started his major league career in Oakland, $5.25 million in 2009 with a $4 million base salary for the option year in 2010. The second year would also provide for a $1.25 million buyout.
I thought Giambi would make that much in 2009 alone. What a deal for Oakland!

Good deal, yes, but I don't think it's anywhere near the steal that Ellis' contract is.
Giambi has a poor projection going forward. As a DH, Marcel thinks he’ll be worth about 1.5 wins. He might be worth a little more at 1B depending on what you think of his defense and health there.

I think he'll have to play first because there's no room for Cust in the OF

...and if I were the A's I'd be in the market for a right handed platoon 1B right now

were his splits bad last year?
It seems like he still managed to put up a decent line

His splits were (and always have been) fine
It just figures that if he needs days off to do it with a LHP on the mound

Jason Giambi: Super Trooper
Though I’d put bets on him having his old goatee back by Opening Day.

Someone on deadspin pointed out
that after Giambi started dyeing the ‘stache it became not so much a State Trooper’s mustache as that of a man who would shoot a State Trooper on the spot for interrupting his car-orgy.

The return of the hair is inevitable
The Yanks and their silly grooming rules……….didn’t George ever hear about that Samson guy?
For this reason alone, I’m predicting a big year from him.
The goatee, the long, almost mullet-like hair with its ever present pro wrestler oily sheen will be back. I hope the ‘stache stays though. It imparts him with a certain potency and virility that you can’t buy from Balco.
And of course, the ladies love it.

With that moustache he looks a bit like Lemmy.

Pavano ---> Tribe
1.5 million guaranteed, another 5.3 if he lasts the season. One year deal.
Pretty much the same situation as Weaver’s in 07, i think. Maybe Pavano can do a tad better, I dunno. He had a dismal year last year but his tRA* has hovered around 4.9 for a few years running so an improvement is not at all out of the question. Good luck to him and his 87mph heat.

I think it is an improvement in the market
when a crappy pitcher gets $1.5 million instead of $7 to suck for a year.
