Lookout Landing Xbox 360 Post Part 2

Alright, there's been a metric craptonne of Xbox 360 discussion going on in the OTFPOTDs lately, so here's a second FanPost dedicated to the subject.

We should get some Lookout Landing games going - Coach, tootthekazoo and I have been playing, and we see Scruffy Lefty and seattlesundevil on a lot too. I know a bunch of you have just mentioned getting Xboxes and live (Brayden, Thingray, kevin_ess, Teej) so let's get some Call of Duty 5 games going!

So, post your screennames, add me (seattlebruin) and let's organize a time to actually get some real LL games going. We can even make like toot and put a [*LL*] clan tag on.

I usually am on from 8-10 PST on days when I play (I play at least a few games most weekdays)

Weekends, I range from playing all day to playing none at all. How do Sunday afternoons work for everyone?

by seattlebruin on Jan 20, 2009 4:37 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I might be able to play then.

That would be my Monday, which is my only offday. But I wouldn’t be able to play until like 4 or 5. Cause after a couple games over the weekend I’m not getting up before 9 or 10 (West coast is 7 hours different).

I wouldn’t post that normally but he’s posted it himself, so I might as well give the quick response

XFPS adapter.

Lets you use a keyboard and mouse with any XBox 360 game.

The only catch is you need a wired 360 controller to configure it.

I was just thinking about this.

We had talked about a north-end gathering after new years. I should check with Robin Hood Lanes and see what I can arrange. Would people want to moonlight bowl, or would we rather just try to reserve some lanes for standard bowling?

I've realized that while tanks are vastly overpowered, they really aren't that hard to kill for a smart player

as long as you attack the back of the tank and stay behind it, you can do some pretty serious damage with just one life

I got the dreaded Red Ring of Death a couple weeks ago.

I was in the middle of a Madden game when the thing just shit the bed. Bummer too because A) the warranty’s expired and B) I was really looking forward to that MLB Front Office game.

Search your Craig List for places that fix the red ring

They usually cost only 50 dollars to repair it

RRoDs are covered for three years from the date of purchase.

Got it about 2 years ago, but...

To get Microsoft to fix it for free, you have to produce a receipt…which is long gone.

What does the manufacturing date next to the serial number read?

Because if it’s after 1/19/06, you might be able to pressure them.

Then again, I didn’t get anywhere on a disc replacement until I contacted the Oregon Department of Justice’s Consumer Affairs branch. That ended the impasse real quick like.

Yeah, you should be good.

I had to send two back a few years ago, and Microsoft was really cool about it. I was never charged a dime to get them replaced. No receipts, just model numbers.

But that was years ago, so it might have changed.

by Teej on Jan 20, 2009 7:09 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Mine was fixed 6 months ago.

Microsoft has put a 3 year warranty on all red ring of death errors, so you should be good. It only took me like ten minutes on the phone and I had my xbox back in two weeks. I was dreading what I thought would be a customer service nightmare but it was actually really easy.

My experience with Microsoft was great.

Not that it excuses them for putting out some pretty shoddy hardware, but Microsoft took care of me when I had two Red Rings of Death within four months. They finally sent me a good console, and it worked more than two years until it was stolen.

Now I’m on a new Elite, and it’s fantastic.

I just got at Xbox 360 last week

for the express purpose of playing RB2, and I’m pretty far along (can beat the Rock Immortal list on hard guitar or bass, not hard drums yet though). I haven’t tried playing online yet…I don’t have XBL Gold, but I do have a free 48 hour trial that I haven’t activated yet. I think you can battle against another player/band over XBL, but I’m not sure if it’s in real time so….probably not very exciting.

In general I suck at console FPSs (need a mouse and keyboard, damn it!), but I’ve never actually owned one myself until now, so if I practiced I might get better. When I get bored of RB2 I might pick up L4D or CoD5 and log on. Although once I get bored of RB2 I’m going to get GH:WT and download Death Magnetic, and that should keep me busy for a while.

by appleshampoo on Jan 20, 2009 6:07 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

RB2 is a fully-functional online game.

You can either play head-to-head versus somebody (in real time) or form an online band (in real time). It’s pretty sweet.

And the only time I ever played RB2 online was with James F’n X. I was super piss drunk and trying to sing while having a sore throat from hell. Good thing I don’t remember it

When I get situated in my new place I am down..

Sundays work well as long as there isn’t a football game on.. I have to compete with roommates for TV time too, so that always takes a chunk out.

As Scruffy and Bruin know, when I can, I am on. Sometimes that means all day long, sometimes it means for a half hour here or there..

But yeah, let’s get a game time goin!

But my tag is Chip1010, if anyone cares. One of these days I’ll actually play multiplayer, but Gears of War 2 is really the only game I play online with. Maybe I’ll get COD5 back from Gamefly.

So yeah, standard disclaimer: Feel free to add me as a friend (I’m quite honored, really), but don’t be offended if I completely ignore your requests to play. Multiplayer just isn’t really my style.

Ha I was the same way when I started.

So now I still have more deaths than kills. You’ll get the hang of it. Now I’m better, the average game for me is probably 10 kills and 7 deaths. Not great, but at least I’m sort of an asset. At least in a supporting role I can help a team. I’ll get better, I have a few games where I get 20-25 kills.

So I’ll come up with something else and post it here shortly. I have Madden ‘09 and Civilization: Revolutions. I also bought the Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 game but will probably be returning/exchanging it because it’s terrible.

Will be buying COD5, an Elder Scrolls game and MLB2K8 shortly (with an eye toward 2K9 and Front Office).

At least initially, don’t expect me to participate much in multiplayer as I like to be competent in a game before I start playing with other people.

Game Informer gave it a 3/10. OXM gave it a 5/10.

Apparently the interface is godawful. I’ll rent it just to see, but it doesn’t sound promising.

Then again, a baseball sim on a console was probably doomed to bad reviews anyway. We’ll see.

by Teej on Jan 21, 2009 10:55 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I think that simulator + console review is always going to turn out bad

because the reviewers don’t really know what to look for. Some of the OXM complaints seemed really asinine though, like that the manager didn’t have enough control over what happened on the field (not like they control anything in real life). They said it was very in-depth though, which makes it sound promising to me. I’ve never had a problem getting over bulky interfaces – the only one that ever truly pissed me off was EA Sports March Madness how they have two sets of recruits you can get every year.

I went to buy MLB2K8 today

because I didn’t want to wait a month and a half to play the newer version…stood and stared for five minutes at Best Buy’s sports section and saw a plethora of NCAA titles, NHL games, Madden, NBA…but no MLB.

A guy asked if I needed help and I said “Yeah just wondering if you have any MLB games.” He goes “Oh yeah of course,” and proceeds to find nothing “Well that’s funny…usually the MLB games aren’t that popular.” He finally found an empty slot for MLB2K8, hidden behind a bunch of NBA games…going for $9.99 on clearance, easily the cheapest game in the batch.

That made me sad. Not just that they didn’t have it but that it appeared, based on price and the clerk’s comments, to be the least sought after sports title in XBox’s selection.

Now, is that because MLB2K8 is not a good game, or is it because baseball games have taken a backseat to virtually every other sport in the video game market?

2K8 was hugely disappointing.

Pales in comparison to MVP 2005. Or even MVP 2003.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Best Buy was selling MLB 2K8 for $9.99 a week or two ago.

That’s probably why they’re not in stock. I got the last one at my local store.

The game isn’t very good, but you don’t really have any other choice on Xbox 360, unfortunately. It’s playable, just highly disappointing.

A list of features for this year’s game leaked a couple of weeks ago. As always, I’ll hope for the best. New developer this year, at least.

I get it.

I’ll pitch in once I get my own cordless. The cord drives me nuts already.

Just as a forewarning

we’re a bit chatty during games. It can be distracting since most of the chatter is unrelated to the game or cursing over bad deaths and/or me claiming I suck while leading the team in kills (and most likely deaths)

Fair enough.

I can listen, but trying to form my own sentences is distracting. Besides, if I don’t like it, I can turn down my volume or take off my headset.

It isn't CoD5

It is more like CoD: Gaiden :-P

The only thing I’ve played recently online is NCAA, in the middle of a dynasty and I’m about to get screwed out of a shot at the MNC despite having beaten 4 teams that were in the top 10 and 3 of the current top 10.

BCS blows :(

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

Surprisingly I think I'm in.

We have early practice today so some of the guys can go to the All-Star game. So I’ll be there.

P.S. I may be late

I just learned that a college basketball game I’m interested in is starting at 6 PM tonight.

(yes that’s right, I hate our team so much this year I don’t even remember when the games are anymore)

Unfortunately, my evicted roommate is still here..

He is supposed to leave sometime this week, and take his TV and PS3 with him.. My TV and 360 will then replace that and I will be able to join.

Stupid waiting on others!

Is anybody else planning on downloading the Resident Evil 5 demo on Monday?

It’s supposed to be a fully-functional demo with online co-op.

by Phildopip on Jan 23, 2009 9:55 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I was planning on it, yes

Online Co-Op makes everything better. We’ll run through it a few times, yes?
