Mike Scioscia to manage Angels forever
Mike Scioscia has agreed to a lengthy contract extension, ten years to be exact, that will allow him to opt out, were he to choose to do so, after the 2015 season.
Prior to this deal, Scioscia was under contract for this season with a club option for next season. It's believed that it was worth something in the 1.75M / year area.
No word on what the new deal is worth.
"It's a significant commitment from myself, (Angels owner) Arte Moreno and (general manager) Tony Reagins," Scioscia said Monday. "I think it reflects on their confidence that we're moving in the right direction and will continue to move in the right direction until we get back to the World Series and win a championship. That's our goal."

Eh. I'm not a big believer that a manager can make that big of an impact on his team.
Big Z is the MAN.

I can't imagine anyone else managing the Angles

I think it was Dave or Derek who said it best a few months back
regarding managers…the spectrum is terrible managers, practically everyone else, and genius managers.
Now, I don’t think Scioscia is a genius by any means, but I do believe him to be an effective manager who by and large gets his players to buy into what presently constitutes “Angels baseball.”
He has certainly garnered that reputation and if anything, this brings a sense of continuity to their organization which can only help (unless, of course, it doesn’t).
He seems to manage people well, which is his #1 job.
He has some funny ideas about how to win baseball games, but then so does Arte Moreno.
He’s a competent manager. He might even be a good manager.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
I believe that Scoscia has more influence than the average manager
Within the Angels organization Scoscia plays a larger role in developing overall philosophy and wields a lot of influence. I understand he is generally responsible for creating and communicating the overall organizational philosophy. If he believes that someone isn’t conveying that effectively Scoscia can make things unpleasant for that person.

Wish we could've had a 10-year deal with Lou...
…but alas.
Our future’s a bit brighter it seems, though, which may or may not’ve happened with Lou still at the helm.
This signature space for rent.
I wonder, though...
If Lou were here during the Bavasi years, would we all hate Lou?
Why did the chicken cross the road?
Kenji Johjima couldn't catch him.
