OT, 1/1 - 2009: The Year of Katal
After a rotten 2008 we finally (finally!) have a new year. This of course begs the question, what will 2009 bring us?
Will the Mariners compete for .500? Do they have any chance of surpising us in a mediocre division and storming into the playoffs? How will Mora do with the Seahawks? Will Kevin Durant's team win another game? Will you attend a Thunderbirds game? If the Storm do anything, will you notice?
Do you have any resolutions? Perhaps you have resolved to find someone to blame for anything that goes wrong. Or do you resolve to drink a new beer? To read the more math-centric parts of The Book? Do tell.
Finally, in honor of 2009, A Poll.

There is no feeling shittier then waking up at your own house, walking outside, realizing your car is not in the driveway and you have no idea where you left it

After making a couple phone calls I let some British girl I'd never met before drive
The question now is where is she staying?
I’ll go hit up every hotel parking lot

Way to kick off the New Year's properly! British babes, missing cars, missing time, hotel parking lots.
Maybe check the trunk for drugs/kidnapping victims/dead hookers? Never know, this might not be finished…

I can't believe I let some marginally attractive British girl who I don't even know who hadn't driven a car in America drive my vehicle
Especially given that her sobriety level was probably no better than mine and there was a blizzard last night

The fact that I get just a little off balance when I get up quickly still
probably means I should not be considering getting into the car and going home yet.
However, the distinct lack of headache I feel is telling me that last night was a good night.

Andrew WK
My primary Andrew WK memory is when he stopped by the KGRG studio at GRCC to see to some people. There was this emo kid there, Eli. Andrew proceeded to yell at him, asking if he likes to listen to Ben Kweller.
The guy comes across in real life exactly the way you would expect & hope him to.

Can't believe I've yet to watch a football game this season.
Hopefully optimism for the M’s doesn’t lead to unreasonable expectations for the team, leading to first disappointment in Zduriencik, followed by torches and pitchforks. It feels like he’s got a plan, and I’m completely happy to sit back and watch it develop even if it takes a couple years. Preferably it takes a couple years.

The Jets game was as much fun as any game that I remember that didnt have playoff implications.

That sounded like a good one. Even if I miss a bunch of regular season games I tune in for the post season.
This year is weird, never got the football bug. Postseason is so freaking long and the play is usually better, right now I should be hopping up and down.

Brett Favre is Ichiro
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3804004
A veteran Jets player, quoted anonymously by Newsday, described Favre as a “distant” teammate who, when at the Jets’ practice facility, spent his down time away from teammates in an office specially designated for him.
“There was a lot of resentment in the room about him. He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone,” the player told Newsday.
and one of the most hilarious comments I’ve ever read:
“If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game,” Jones told Hot 97 FM. “You’re jeopardizing the whole team because you’re having a bad day. To me, that’s not fair to everybody else. You’re not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it’s just not [fair].”

2008 may be over
but I don’t think Seattle-area sports teams are suddenly going to win championships next year. Do you think the Seahawks and M’s at .500 next year would be a success?
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jan 1, 2009 1:50 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
After this year
I would be satisfied by that.
by katal on Jan 1, 2009 3:24 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I would be content with that.
I am hoping the coaching changes will help the M’s, Huskies, and Seahawks turn around. And maybe we’ll be given the Thunder back because they suck so bad and none of the players want to be there.

I think I needed a break from my new Roku Netflix streamer...
Man, that thing is AWESOME!!!!! Comcast doubling its high-speed Internet I’m sure helps, but the Roku was updated overnight to add HD output. Only 720p, but that’s all my TV can handle anyway (and being only a 32 incher, it’s really borderline if I’d notice the difference between 720 and 1080 anyway). You have to understand – a decade ago, I was hired to help put videos on the Internet for our little division in state government. The only feasible solution for Internet video back then (when 56K was considered a fast connection, and 128K “insane” and not widely available to homes yet) was Real Player. To have HD video (and the massive amounts of data therewith) being streamed over my wifi router pretty seamlessly is a source of amazement for me…

But Don Larsen at the end made me hate him and the event. He claimed the David Cone no-hitter was the first game he had seen start to finish since his playing days. On top of that he was oblivious to what a perfect game was at the time of his.

God damn, this morning sucked
Drank way way way to much last night, but that was all good. This morning I payed dearly for that, ,though. Then I had to ride my bike through the cold and rain while having a splitting headache. I was weaving back and forth on the bike lane because I could barely concentrate.
