Yeah, so...we're not losing 100 games this season.
Just took 2 of 3 from the Yankees, the only team left on the schedule that's "fighting" for a playoff spot.
Only 20 games left in the season. Only 7 wins are needed to avoid losing 100 games....or 14 losses to clinch 100 loss season. The rest of the schedule sees the following:
Texas (2 games): Probably the most legitimate competitor, but still only 2 more games and they're worst than the Yankees.
LAnaheim (8 games): You'd think we would have a tough time against this team but they're going to clinch the division by the time they reach us, which means they're going to spend more time keeping their players as healthy as possible than anything.
Kansas City (4 games): 18-28 since the All-Star Break. They kinda suck.
Oakland (6 games): 14-33 since the All-Star Break (worst in the majors). Boy, they really suck.
Pretty good schedule for winning, crappy schedule for losing. If that's not enough:
1) More starts by the potential new 1-2 punch in Felix and Morrow.
2) More starts by competent back-end rotation starters in RRS, Feierabend.
3) Limited starts by the Trio of Sucktitude in Silva, Washburn, and Batista due to injuries/suckage.
4) Beltre's luck progressing to the mean.
5) Raul's still flipping out.
Hard to see less than 7 wins out of this bunch the rest of the way. The historical embarassment of losing 100-games would've been interesting but the chances of that happening are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Not good, not good at all
We’re entering this stretch 1GB of Washington and 1.5GB of SD in the Strasburg sweepstakes… Why can’t we keep losing???
But how can I root against Morrow and Felix!? The agony of conflicting interests!! This team was more fun when it sucked. At least then I knew what to do.
Free Stephen "Awesome" Strasburg!
This does create a Catch-22
But I am sure 3rd overall pick shouldn’t be too bad. I mean it’s still early, but I am sure Jeff Clement will be ok.

Ok,
I’m going to put a cap in a midget’s ass if I hear any more of the S-dude between now and the end of the season.

Whoa. I've never heard him speak before, that freaked me out.
For some reason I expected it to sound more like his singing voice.

Shorties are damn fine
“Short” people? Better watch-out if the S-dude’s name is brought up anymore, hehehe
I’m sick of the excessive man-crush for someone we know so little about, outside of that one dominant game.
Everyone wants to be like Graham or someone equivalent on this site and discover the “next big thing” before everyone else does. Somehow being ahead of the trend is “cool” – ugh…so high school-like of everyone to jump on the bandwagon due to peer pressure. So at this rate I see a lot of you boy-crushing about that 9-year old that was banned from his league because he was “too good” at pitching – throwing 40mph+ fastballs and blowing everyone away.
Just end the madness, people! We either get him or we don’t. He may pan out, he may not. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Maybe people are excited about a freakishly talented baseball player. We're baseball fans, it happens.

Plus the running joke aspect, I'm finding it on other M's sites, slightly less exuberant than here.

That's because it originated here and we are bored with it.

Hey, I watched that horse get beaten into the ground. Emphasis on 'exuberant'.
Ground zero was LL. The shockwave is still spreading outward. It’s kind of funny to run into it in other places. I stopped for a sandwich at a local bar, 2 old curmudgeons were wondering who Strasburg was and why the M’s are trying so hard to get him. I wondered if they knew the worst record was the finish line, and where they were picking up the hint of Strasburg from.

Well if we don't beat out San Diego, it's a moot point anyway.
So let’s just hope San Diego out-wins us. Fair enough?
Strasburg is fucking amazing
Deal with it

He already plans to buy a jersey, too.

That would be interesting
either he’d get hurt and stop pitching or to spite Graham he’d start pitching like a #2. I think I’d be OK with either
Isn't Bedard coming back soon too?
So it’s more like a 1-2-3 roundhouse kick

Do we really have to rebuild next year?
It seems like we’ve got a good rotation in place. If we can just get a couple of league average bats, we’re in business.
We have the components of a good rotation
It’s only a matter of telling Miguel Batista he can be our $8 million mopup guy, not screwing up on Washburn again, and praying Silva regresses to his league average self.
Or, you know...
…build an excellent infield and outfield defense to support our pitchers.

If we had a good defense we'd be Toronto.
Well, maybe not, but they show how strong you can be with just pitching and defense.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
I'd rather upgrade the defense and be Toronto next year as part of the retooling process than trade Beltre and deal with Tui and LaHair.

I’m entirely OK with being Toronto

Toronto – AL East + NL = Division title or Wild Card.

They do have a black manager.
But man, that is a white team, isn’t it?
They’ve got Vernon Wells; he’s not entirely white. Alex Rios is hispanic. And, uhh…. Rod Barajas? Is that seriously it?
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
They released him, or he retired. His shoulder was a mess.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
But non-white is what we were discussing.
No one said the Jays weren’t black enough.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
But are they "all the way black"?
We need an expert. We need Gary Sheffield.

BTW what about Feierabend?
I was never too fond of him these past few years but he’s shown some good things lately. How much longer is he under team control? It’s doubtful he cracks the rotation next season but maybe in that dream world where we finally get Silva off the books. Oh dear god that’s 3 years away..
I look at him as medium upside -> Washburn
With a potential peak of something along the lines of Jamie Moyer if he can refine his command more (he’s still young) and work the change more effectively vs righties. I like him, and if he’s going to succeed in any MLB park, It’s going to be in Safeco where it’s tough on righty power hitters who would beat up on a lefty fly ball pitcher.
Don't forget Lopez!!
He’s been clu.. I mean he’s getting a lot of rb… I mean he’s aiming better lately.
