Back spasms never seem to happen in any other sports.

You notice all the starters suffering from the worst cases of 'suck' are getting stricken?

Just seems like a funny coincidence, what with all the young arms around and available. Just once I’d like to hear a manager around here come right out and say “he sucks, I’m sitting his ass down”. Then again, maybe it’s back spasms.

And a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills

The Bills, collectively, are maybe two steps up from the Dolphins.

by Gomez on Sep 7, 2008 1:11 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Bills were 7-9 last year and may win 10 games this year with their offseason pickups.

However, we shouldn’t have lost. Also, the game was closer than it looked—up until the end of the 3rd quarter it was close then some fluky special teams plays made it a blowout.

I’m not worried, in 2005 we lost the season opener to a Jacksonville team that was on the rise. Emulating 2005 is not a bad idea.

The Seahaws never had a prayer

It was close in the sense that the Cougars survived the first quarter against OSU close.

by JI on Sep 7, 2008 1:22 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah I saw

But they way they were playing there was no reason to expect them to make up the difference barring some sort of bevy of turnovers.

by JI on Sep 7, 2008 1:25 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Taylor dropped 2, Putzier dropped 3, Kent dropped 1, Payne dropped 1 or 2 and fumbled one.

Those were all on the receivers. Hass looks a lot better at 24 or 25-41 than 17-41. I don’t see Payne or Putzier being back next week, since Carlson did so well.

by BrettJMiller on Sep 7, 2008 1:31 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bingo.

Hass had some bad passes, but he was no where near as bad as the 17-41 seems to indicate.

by BrianL on Sep 7, 2008 1:32 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, 20-7 at half with a flat offense

Even though 2 TDs is generally an overcomeable deficit, it wasn’t looking good.

by Gomez on Sep 7, 2008 1:57 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

THey came out firing in the 2nd half then got penaltied to shit.

I still am not at all worried about the Hawks. I can’t see them winning any less than 10 games, and they’ll take the division again.

Good god, the Rams and Niners are awful. The only worry is that the Cards finally pull their heads out of their asses this season.

by Gomez on Sep 7, 2008 2:44 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Cards don't worry me. We're still a good team with an easy schedule. 13-3 is not impossible.

In fact John Morgan is a fairly unbiased analyst and he thinks we’ll win 13.

Well now the Seahawks have to go 13-2

With next to no healthy receivers, a questionable ability to tackle and to execute the playbook, and hope nobody else gets hurt.

Yeah.

Exactly. 10 points we could've come back from, even 13.

Then they had the fake FG TD, and the kickoff fumble to make it ridiculously laughable.

by BrettJMiller on Sep 7, 2008 1:25 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That is true, and that to me was all Logan Payne's over aggressiveness and shitty tackling.

So there’s 21 points given up by Special Teams, essentially. Very fluky, especially since fumble recoveries are mostly luck.

We still played uninspired enough to lose, but I don’t believe that’s our true talent level at all.

Roscoe Parrish is a beast

He’s maybe just a step below Devin Hester. The Seahawks helped him with shitty tackling, but I’m not too surprised he broke one.

by Gomez on Sep 7, 2008 2:02 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I still think the Seahawks are the better team. Holmgren coached like shit today, and it was Hasselbeck's first action in over a month.

Bad games happen. The Hawks still have far more talent than Buffalo.

Pretty much.

He’s always on camera accepting blame that he usually doesn’t deserve. He’s always apologetic to the fans, even when his teammates are performing far worse than he is. He does interviews with all the reporters whenever they ask. And so on.

Hate on him if you must for not having a David Ortiz-esque playoff performance in which he carries the Yankees on his back, but I’ve never seen any justification for the idea that he’s a bad person.

Give some examples, people.

Yep, and he seems like a dick aren’t good enough reasons.

The whole wife thing is fucked up (on both sides, since it appears they were both cheating) but things like that have happened throughout the history of baseball, and only in this day in age do they become public. My mom knew someone who slept with Don Mattingly when he was married, but things like that just didn’t come out in the papers then. It doesn’t make him a good person and it doesn’t make infidelity right, but really he’s far from a dick in almost everything he says to the media—the media just makes up reasons to hate on him.

I saw him kick a puppy once. Okay, not true.

He’s petulant. When things don’t go his way, he mopes. He makes personal life decisions that end up making him look like an asshole. His dealings with his former contract negotiations, though orchestrated through Boras, were filthy. Then, when it really mattered and the Yankees simply wanted to wash their hands of his presence, he ended up throwing Boras, the one guy who has gotten him to the pay scale he’s at, under the proverbial bus.

That, and being a Yankee doesn’t help.

I ran into Jeter and A-Rod at the Metropolitan Bar and Grill in '98.

Right before closing time, bar was empty. I was waiting at the bar for my sister to get off work bullshitting with the bartenders & bar backs, they walked in and stood around at the other end for a bit. They walked over and hung out for a beer or two, really nice guys. But that was a long time ago and circumstances can change a guy I suppose.

Didn't he or Boras raise a stink during the HOF week couple of years ago?

That didn’t help. Maybe I’m thinking of something Pete Rose did on the eve of the HOF ceremonies, and A-Rod’s was during the World Series or something. Newspaper article I read this year called him a slumlord for some investment property in Florida. Stripper pics. Anyway, the press is itching for chances to get a bite of his ass.

Boras announced during the World Series that A-Rod would be opting out of his contract.

Dick move, but I have no idea how much of that was A-Rod or whether it was Boras doing his thing. A-Rod later kicked Boras out of the negotiations for the new contract because of the way he was acting through the whole thing.

Nice game for Feierabend.

Don’t know what it looks like as far as the breakdown yet, but sounded not-too-shabby.

8 groundouts, 8 fly outs, 2 BB, 4 K in 7 IP. All that's left now is discerning LDs vs. FBs....and of course there were the two HR.

Seems like a decent #5 starter on a good day level performance

Hey thanks! Takes me a bit to sort through that stuff during the post game.

I’m trying not be lazy and rely on the LL wrap up. This and a knucklehead project I’m working on, I’m getting faster.

Ha ha! The alphabet isn't long enough to include me.

I did however just stumble on a lurid detail about Mickey Mantle I’d never heard before while looking up some defensive stat info just know, but thankfully the A-Rod thread died and I don’t want to throw more fuel on the fire.

Lopez actually did look lazy on that homerun swing.

All three of our HR today have been lucky.

What's crazy to me about Wlad is not him chasing bad pitches

But it seems like he’s swung through quite a few fastballs in the zone too.
