Today's Fun Fact
(Source: 2007-2008 PITCHf/x)
Felix, fastball
96mph
6% swinging strike
21% in play
.352 BA on contact
.571 SLG on contact
Brandon Morrow, fastball
96mph
14% swinging strike
12% in play
.285 BA on contact
.500 SLG on contact
Velocity isn't everything, Felix. Your fastball isn't very good. Establish the change.

By the way, I answered a few questions about Brandon Morrow over at the SBN Berkeley blog, so check those out in case you've nothing better to do. Bear in mind that the questions were answered prior to his start. Rest assured that, were I to do it again, my answers now would extend to Morrow several more offers of a sexual nature.

At least you limit your whorish nature to pitchers.

Amended.
Hockey players don’t count when discussing Jeff’s whorish nature with baseball players.

This is really hard to do in Pitch F/x
But Felix has two fastballs, and we have to distinguish between them – the two-seamer is actually a great pitch when he has even okay command of it, but his four seamer sucks.

Hey Jeff,
I am sure i am not the only one to notice, but according to fangraphs, Felix’s fastball MPH has been drasitically dropping. he went from having a comfortable lead no less then a month ago to being .20 pecentage points behind JIminez. Given an entire year of data that means that Felix’s fastball has been well below his average for the past month and a half to see such a change, any insights?

So is there a reason today's Open Game Thread is closed?

Phew, at least I'm not the only one that can't get in.
I thought perhaps you people had finally decided to get rid of me.

I was just checking my email account to see if I’d been notified of banishment.

Maybe they just banned us both from the threads. Only two of us are noticing this? And 15 minutes after the game has already started?
Man, what did we do!?

Hey, you're a regular.
Start a fanpost gamethread, that would be hilarious! Especially since it seems it’s just the two of us. Plus all these comments are off topic for this post, it makes me feel guilty.

Today's not Fun Fact.
With the loss today, the Arizona Diamondbacks are out of first place for the first time since April 7th, a span of 133 games. This is far and away a franchise record.
Brandon Webb got shelled for his third consecutive start and was once again denied his 20th win. There’s gotta be something wrong with him. Oh and RJ is gonna miss tomorrow’s start with a shoulder issue(Mad Max will start in his place)
Congrats Dodgers(and Bluemax). Enjoy being one of the worst division winners ever. You’ll be swept by the Cubs in the NLDS.

Don't have time to follow any of those teams.
Which is disappointing, I try and keep up with ex M’s, and Mike Price is one of my favorites.

Felix, Morrow, then RRS.
This is about as good as it gets for the M’s this year. I took listen to the Armstrong interview this morning, really disappointed with his perspective on just about everything.
