Pravda:

The first pitch in the Mariners' series opener against the Yankees could be a fastball, cutter, slider, curveball, splitter or changeup -- the impressive repertoire right-hander Brandon Morrow has at his disposal for the first start of his Major League career.

I have an inkling.

My money is on cutter, slider, curveball, splitter or changeup

Also 6 pitches is a bad sign…that means none but the fastball are very good doesn’t it?

I can't help but be pessimistic about this.

The fact that it’s the Yankees notwithstanding, there’s just no way Brandon is ready to be big-league starter.

Oh well. I’m done caring for this year.

by Teej on Sep 5, 2008 6:12 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't care, still interesting

if he’s not ready, at least we’ll get an idea of how not ready.

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2008 6:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

More ready than Silva or Batista.

Seriously though, even Morrow building up as a starter in the big leagues without significant minors experience will likely be better than replacement level.

by batura on Sep 5, 2008 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not really worried about whether he's better right now than our shittiest pitchers.

I’m more worried about whether this is a good idea for his confidence/development.

As long as he’s trying out different pitches, though, I’m happy. I just don’t see him practicing his change-up and slider against a lineup like the Yankees. Doesn’t seem wise for confidence-building, either.

Whatever. I’m trying to feign interest and it’s hard.

Can't the future start on Monday?

We have a chance to put the nail in the coffin on this Yankees team that has dealt us so much heartbreak over the last decade.

Im actually looking forward to this entire series.

If we somehow take 2 of 3, we’ll basically have ended the Yankees postseason hopes. Even if we only get one game, it would hurt them

Their playoff odds stand at 1.3%

I’m not sure how much more damage we can deal. They’re dead.
