Chicago loses five in a row, surrendering division lead: unclutch!
Chicago wins two in a row, forcing one-game playoff: clutch!

Oh clutchness, you are so delightfully fickle. Which ever will it be tonight? While on its surface a competition between each team's level of talent, this game is truly but a test of Chicago's character. If they lose, I'm gonna blame Griffey.

I love one-game playoffs so much.

The only thing that would be better than a one game playoff

is a one game playoff decided by a blown call that is wrong even after review. That would be fantastic.

But go Twins. The White Sox have already had their blown call for them in 2005.

Pocket schedules

Hi. Does anybody on this site have a Mariners pocket schedule (that you might be willing to mail to me)? If so, send me an e-mail at gbarasch.student@manhattan.edu

Thanks!

C.Gomez and Span are beasts in the field

The ChiSox are aged loafers. More Rays flyballs and liners dropping in.

Easily

especially without Quentin

White Sox were about 5 wins better than the Twins by BsR.

Losing quentin hurts of course, but I don’t think by that much. Unless other factors (no more Livan) are able to close that still sizable gap, I’d say the Twins are worse.

by Matthew on Sep 30, 2008 4:39 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Subbing Griffey with Quentin is pretty damning

as is Liriano for Livan.

I think the White SOx have had a better year, but right now the Twins are better.

Fun fact: If Minnesota wins, the only two dome teams in MLB will play each other in the ALDS

(I’m not counting retractable roof teams that always keep the lid shut, like Houston)

I can't pick which team I care least about.

I have no feelings about either of these teams. I thought the South Side fans were awesome when I visited, and I love watching the Twins outfield play defense, but that’s about it.

Fuck it, go Twins.

by Teej on Sep 30, 2008 4:37 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So?

Sometimes I think this place cares way too much about the fact that Griffey is old and sucks now.

by Goose on Sep 30, 2008 4:40 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I haven't really cared all that much about Griffey since he left.

My allegiance only follows players that leave amicably.

Any neat inside info on Ozzie?

We know he’s crazy… but I wonder how crazy….

by Gomez on Sep 30, 2008 4:42 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Alternatively

we don’t need Chicago and LA both having 2 teams in the playoffs. Root against Chicago.

Hawk is a huge part of why they're not mine.

I always loved the Frank Thomas White Sox, and as I mentioned above, I love the fans on the South Side. But I could just never adopt a team that require listening to him and DJ five or six days a week.

But to each his own, of course.

by Teej on Sep 30, 2008 4:53 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I dunno

I just remember being a young’n in Chicago and my Pap would always have WGN on TV and whenever I’d do anything good he’d yell “YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD!!! YES!!!!!!!!” and give me a high five so I associate the home run call with all my good childhood memories

I'm all for them

Because I’ve got a girlfriend who will watch as much baseball as I want, so long as she gets to watch her Sox. Easy choice for a second team then, and I think having a blatant homer is kind of fun for an announcer. Reminds me of the idea of putting two fans (one of each team) in the booth for any sporting event. Always thought that would be fun too. It’s not as if you really need an announcer for a TV game.

That's what I say

I’ve been seriously rooting for them since May of 07 or so. Fun team to watch, and I love Ozzie. I would take him as manager in the drop of a hat.

Subjectively I definitely would. Ozzie keeps things interesting and makes the game awesome

by Patrick517 on Sep 30, 2008 4:58 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Is it wrong to root for Griffey to get a ring

…if it means he’s more likely to come to Seattle on a cheap “last hurrah” contract? I mean if he’s still in the hunt for a ring he’ll be signing with an obvious contender. But if he’s just out to make a couple bucks and enjoy a goodbye tour, he might end up on the M’s and take up a roster spot for a useful player.

Having to use an inexperienced 1st base coach will screw the white sox in the clutch.

Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

Robert has a decent point.

You guys suffered for 9 years. We’ve suffered for the better part of 30.

You don’t deserve a title before us.
