I'm going to revise my earlier estimate

It looks like he’s gained about 40 lbs since then, and not very much of that muscle.

I was JUST thinking the same thing..

Good for me that your comment was on the top, otherwise I may have gotten the dreaded “LATE!” treatment.

Well, fuck.

I love how in 05 he travels like twice as far as the hitter does and in 08, he moves like 2 feet

Is that Willie playing 2B in the left hand gif?

I enjoy how whoever it is appears to just be standing around.

by Matthew on Sep 3, 2008 10:58 PM PDT reply actions

He didn't need to do anything

Betancourt 2005 could play a gold glove (no caps) 2B and SS simultaneously

It is indeed Willie

Day after Felix’s home debut. He also managed to see a total of 15 pitches in six at bats. The more things change…

But first pitch triple!

God, now I'm fucking depressed.

And I just ate my last piece of licorice, and I have like 3 more hours of Vector Calculus homework because my teacher thinks its a good idea to assign 6 million problems. Also, ironically enough, the Betancourt shirt I bought last year doesn’t fit anymore because I put on some weight over the summer working in a fucking Deli. Bleh.

I thought him and Lopez hand out with Felix.

Why the fuck not join him on the diet he had when he showed up to ST in way better shape?

The conditioning for our team sucks. Scary thing is, Balentien looks like a guy whos going to get rounder.

They need to train with Ichiro to at least not get any bigger. Joining him in his workouts in Japan could help them a ton.

by Slica on Sep 3, 2008 11:35 PM PDT reply actions

Not debating the fact that he sucks more now

But I don’t think these two GIFs are a good example – in the 2005 one the ball takes a huge hop and takes longer to get out of the infield – the ball is moving a bit faster on the right. Does anyone else notice this or am I just imagining it?

Again, yeah, I know his defense is bad now.

by appleshampoo on Sep 4, 2008 12:11 AM PDT reply actions

Yeah, the one on the right is a little quicker

but the one on the left is far closer to second base.

by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 4, 2008 12:17 AM PDT up reply actions

yep

can’t even see 2B in the second one. “time and space” I suppose.

by appleshampoo on Sep 4, 2008 12:50 AM PDT up reply actions

While I agree,

I was thinking more along the lines of where Yuni started. Yuni could’ve been shadowing more up the middle on the left and more towards 3B on the right.

One thing is for sure, Yuni on the right would not make the play on the left today.

Seriously,

Where are those ’tards that were defending Yuni now?

Yuni now is dead to me.

I was at Shea for the Felix-Slam!
Personal M's record: 5-4.

by EnglishMariner on Sep 4, 2008 3:01 AM PDT reply actions

On the right gif there were 0 outs and a runner on first,

I assume they were at double-play depth? It looked as if Yuni was playing him to pull, it took him so long to enter the frame.

I love how the ball zigzags its way across the infield dirt, as if it was taunting Yuni. “You ain’t gonna get me! Ah shit, here. I’ll bounce closer to you… and you still missed me fatass! Sup reed”

by Jaejo on Sep 4, 2008 4:03 AM PDT reply actions

You are not an idiot

Yuni had the ability. He has just chosen to give a big fat middle finger to Mariner fans everywhere by not giving a shit about his game.

Depressing.

He seems almost tall in the one on the left because of the speed and long strides

Now all his steps to balls he can’t get to seem short and choppy.

I fucking hate you Mariners

by kentroyals5 on Sep 4, 2008 10:36 AM PDT reply actions

In all fairness

we don’t know where Yuni was playing on each of those two plays. He may have been more in the hole on the second play.

But is certainly worse than in 2005.

by tait644 on Sep 4, 2008 12:55 PM PDT reply actions

In reference to Yuni's offense

he’s running a .275 BABIP this season with a .211 LD rate, the highest of his career. He might actually be a decent but unlucky hitter this year (but God, he swings at EVERYTHING)

by seattlebruin on Sep 4, 2008 12:57 PM PDT reply actions

Well he may be a better hitter than he was in 2007

his IF fly rate, HR/FB and K% are down, his LD and walks (believe it or not) are up, and he’s pulling the ball less

BABIP seems to be a huge culprit here, going from .299 with a .199 LD rate to .275 with a .211 LD rate
