Ironically (I guess, I never did learn when to use that word correctly) it is actually warmer now because of the constant cloud cover.

Even including Lacey and Tumwater, Olympia's population is below 100,000.

I don’t know how they see fit to classify it as a “mid-sized” city.

I dunno...

There’s a lot of new housing developments around here. If you include all of LOT, there’s got to be more than 100K.

But, then again, with as bad as LACEY SUCKS, I’d assume that the crime rate there would drag down the curve, so I’m not sure they’ve included Lacey in this 150K. Which brings me back around to your original point — I’d be surprised if there were indeed 150K people in Olympia, even with all of the new housing developments here.

In honor, go do something good for people today (Newman’s Own food products have donated more than $200M to charity since the company began in the 80s) and watch one of his films (Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the Sting, Slap Shot, the Hustler).

To answer your questions
  • I don’t think my choice would be too discerning. The first halfway decent drink I came across would be sufficient.
  • Judd Apatow movies products: Hilarious. Don’t forget the television shows he used to make.
  • Either Esquire or Mental Floss.
  • Cub Fans
  • Deaf. Deaf people can still communicate, and they even have a pretty big subculture.
  • Screw soccer.
  • Predator
  • Guns N Roses released the first single off of Chinese Democracy, which is suddenly due out this year. It’s a completely forgettable song.

6) I don’t think a great film could ever be ruined by its sequals, but Robocop 2 and 3 were pretty terrible.

How is Soldier a sequel to Blade Runner?

I’ve never made that connection before. Interesting.

I didn’t like the first two episodes of this season’s IASiP as much as I was hoping (and I haven’t gotten around to this last Thursday’s yet), but Charlie was fantastic in that episode.

by katal on Sep 27, 2008 10:25 AM PDT up reply actions

It's an unofficial sequel, apparently. Takes place in the same 'verse.

From the wiki page

“It was written by David Peoples, who co-wrote the script for Blade Runner. By his own admission, he considers Soldier to be a "sidequel”/spiritual successor to Blade Runner.1 It also obliquely references various elements of stories written by Philip K. Dick (who wrote the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, on which Blade Runner is based), or film adaptations thereof."

I would say there's definitely some folk roots there.

But the Pogues and some of Shane’s other projects are groups with more hybrid souds.

by CKel on Sep 27, 2008 10:53 AM PDT up reply actions

Oh, absolutely.

MOst of the Pogues and the Popes’ sounds come from traditional Irish music, without question. But when I think of “Irish folk music” I think of the Chieftains, the Dubliners, Christy Moore, etc and Shane is definitely not part of that school.

I suppose I could technically still compose music if I were deaf (after all, Beethoven did so) and since I’m already hard of hearing, were a gun to my head that would probably be my choice.

- Judd Apatow movies: ignored
- Haven’t touched a mag in ages, but as much as I don’t care for their TV programming, I like ESPN the Magazine.
- Not rooting for the Rays in October: The Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and Anaheim Angels.
- I’d rather be deaf. I can still find my way around if I can’t hear.
- America still won’t care… except for those few moments during and after the U.S. team’s win.
- As stated above, you can’t ruin a good movie with a sequel, because the good movie still stands on its own.
- The Mariner Central crew, dpseadv and I met up and we had a blast. I owe Kermit a good seat at a game next season: name it and you got it, dude.

Apatow is extremely talented, but he's given way too long a leash.

I enjoy virtually everything he makes because he has an incredibly knack for dialog and content that I can relate to. But a two- or two-and-a-half-hour comedy movie is fucking ridiculous.

Moderation:

Just to show how much slack we are given here, I wanted to post this warning that was thrown up today at the Saints forum I haunt.

After the game the SuperForum always erupts, win or lose. We are going to restrict posting to one thread start per hour and 5 posts per hour until 8:00 PM this evening. After 8:00 PM those totals will double until 11:00 PM. After that the SF will revert back to the normal rules.

When we win, don’t come in expecting to post like crazy. Should we lose (knock on wood) don’t expect to come here and rant like a madman. You will have to choose your spots carefully. If a mod has to delete your thread, it will be your last for a while. Be smart, post smart, be a Saint.

A reminder, during the game all Saints posts are to be on the GameDay Board. There will be no post count restrictions on the Game Day Board during or after the game. If you want to rant, that’s the place to do it.

Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

We also have a new infraction in place: “Post-Game Misbehavior”. This is a 25 point infraction that automatically results in a 12 hour ban. Intended for those who cannot or will not control themselves post game.

Enjoy the game, but please remember that what you do here and what you post here affects every member on the site.

Thank you.

It is heavy handed, but it makes for an awesome forum where everyone stays on topic. Basically, don’t give the triumvirate any crap because if they wanted to, this place could be run like 1600’s Spain.
