9/25: Open Game Thread
Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners, Sep 25, 2008 7:10 PM PDT
I'll just come right out and say it - for a while now I too have wanted to give Ichiro a nice swift punch in the head. Mostly because I tend to hurt the things I love, but also because I want him to feel the way I feel. I want all of them to feel the way I feel. Forget about your seasons, Mariners. Forget about your careers. This is about me. Think about what you have done to me. Legally I'm pretty sure you can all be tried as purveyors of torture.

Is Carlos Silva the most thoroughly unpleasant Mariner in team history?

If Cirillo were a Mariner now I'd probably have a lot of fun talking about how crazy he is

[Aurilia] was a good guy
I never had any problems with him
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Corcotopia and Washingtonhighways.org
Yeah same here
except he was decent before and after his M’s stint and catastrophically bad during. That pissed me off along with my inability to spell his name correctly
Eh he wasn't catastrophically bad
He wasn’t even close to the biggest problem on that team- they just wanted to let young SS Jose Lopez play and it was a lost season so they scapegoated him
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Corcotopia and Washingtonhighways.org
Also I think Aurilia got a lot of unfair dislike because he was the new shortstop in the stupidest shortstop swap of all time
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Corcotopia and Washingtonhighways.org
Well I can understand that
The guy we got in that trade hit 2 homers today for the team we got him from…Wonderful
Jamon Santiago hit 2 home runs in a game?
Wow. Good for him. I didn’t think that was possible
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Corcotopia and Washingtonhighways.org
He's actually having a damn good season upon further review

I was too.
This was the last time I was ever excited for a trade.
I was still in love with Freddy so I hated that particular trade.
Hated hated hated.
Although now I use this trade to explain that there are transactions that can have terrible results, but were still smart moves to make.
Ismael Valdes, Rey Sanchez were exciting in 2003
I just remember being collasally pissed on 7/31 and when we traded Nellie for showing some balls
I was mad because the only reason why the trade was made was because Nellie said what we were all thinking about ownership
It was a good move made for all the wrong reasons.
Stupid thought processes make me angry too.
This trade made me forever skeptical of "gap power"
Gap power is just another way of calling somebody weak.

Player A was way more of an a-hole, but I hate Silva much much more.

Yeah, you're right.
Everett is a bigger asshole than either one.
But I stand by my original statement that Silva is more unpleasant because of his contract and what he represents.

Riggleman may be a bad manager
but boy he does some fine interviews.
I doubt Sexson, but Felix wouldn't surprise me.
I keep gravitating towards Batista/Silva/Washburn. I wonder why?
I love Felix, but he seems stupid and way too macho for his own good.
I would actually be surprised if Felix wasn’t part of this, especially considering that he and Silva are apparently pretty close.

Might not make up that game.
I think that helps us.
Barring reports otherwise,
I would assume this is a game MLB would just let Washington and Florida skip making up since it has no playoff implications.
If so, that effectively buys the Ms an extra half game on the Nats for first overall.
I'm seeing the game listed as "Cancelled"
Unless I’m wrong, doesn’t look like they’re going to make up the game. Sounds good to me.
If the Nats played today and lost
and we won, Nats would then be ahead of us for first overall.
With them rained out, even if we win today, we still have a half game lead over them.
Does Jimenez really have a future as a starter?
And how many left-handed starters are going to be in our rotation next year?
Actual confusion.

Hmmmm....
Bakerland, regarding Riggleman’s retort to Ichiromania.
Remember, though. Riggleman was not the manager earlier on this season. He also wasn’t around at all last year, when the team had a meeting at Tropicana Field to discuss gripes, including some directed as Ichiro.
Pardon Me, but what the hell is this “last year” garbage about? I thought last year’s team had “Chemistry”?
Can’t have it both ways…unless we’re blaming Ichiro for last year’s collapse as well.
Baker seems intent on making this a huge deal

Mariners player reportedly threatened to ‘knock out’ Ichiro during season
Who was it? Richie? Willie (haha)?
Batista, yes
I imagine it’s the entire group of shitty starters. There don’t seem to be a lot of other possible candidates.
