9/25: Open Game Thread
Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners, Sep 25, 2008 7:10 PM PDT
I'll just come right out and say it - for a while now I too have wanted to give Ichiro a nice swift punch in the head. Mostly because I tend to hurt the things I love, but also because I want him to feel the way I feel. I want all of them to feel the way I feel. Forget about your seasons, Mariners. Forget about your careers. This is about me. Think about what you have done to me. Legally I'm pretty sure you can all be tried as purveyors of torture.

I would pay many dollars to give Carlos Silva a Purple Nurple.

Is Carlos Silva the most thoroughly unpleasant Mariner in team history?
by Jeff on Sep 25, 2008 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Cirillo were a Mariner now I'd probably have a lot of fun talking about how crazy he is

[Aurilia] was a good guy
I never had any problems with him

Yeah same here
except he was decent before and after his M’s stint and catastrophically bad during. That pissed me off along with my inability to spell his name correctly
by Scrupio on Sep 25, 2008 5:58 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Eh he wasn't catastrophically bad
He wasn’t even close to the biggest problem on that team- they just wanted to let young SS Jose Lopez play and it was a lost season so they scapegoated him

Also I think Aurilia got a lot of unfair dislike because he was the new shortstop in the stupidest shortstop swap of all time

I would assume this is a game MLB would just let Washington and Florida skip making up since it has no playoff implications.
If so, that effectively buys the Ms an extra half game on the Nats for first overall.

If the Nats played today and lost
and we won, Nats would then be ahead of us for first overall.
With them rained out, even if we win today, we still have a half game lead over them.

Hmmmm....
Bakerland, regarding Riggleman’s retort to Ichiromania.
Remember, though. Riggleman was not the manager earlier on this season. He also wasn’t around at all last year, when the team had a meeting at Tropicana Field to discuss gripes, including some directed as Ichiro.
Pardon Me, but what the hell is this “last year” garbage about? I thought last year’s team had “Chemistry”?
Can’t have it both ways…unless we’re blaming Ichiro for last year’s collapse as well.

I kinda want us to offer him a 3/20 year deal
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:11 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I've been meaning to ask you guys about that
I sort of think that it might not be a bad idea.
by Jono on Sep 25, 2008 8:17 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If we gave him a huge 3/20 deal he might.
There’s a good chance he’s never the same guy again.

If we're willing to keep Washburn and his salary around
We may as well dish out for another year of Erik.
by katal on Sep 25, 2008 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If he's out for most of 2009 then no we really shouldn't
by Jeff on Sep 25, 2008 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
What about for draft picks?
It seems like a lot of money for a couple picks down the road, but I don’t really know what the money value of sandwich picks is.

I hate signing injured pitchers to anything more than a few hundred K

We could sign better non-injured players.

Make a gamble while 'rebuilding'
If it pays off, rebuilding finishes quicker. If it doesn’t, oh well.
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:22 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
What makes you say that?
I strongly disagree.
by katal on Sep 25, 2008 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Chronically injured players are great gambles if you're looking to rebuild on a budget
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sure.
If Ben Sheets is injured enough, offer him one too
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not paying attention enough to know
I just love injured players, because you can get lucky with them.
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
How much do you think Milton Bradley will sign for?
I think he could still be a relative bargain.

by JI on Sep 25, 2008 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Probably too much and he'll break within the first month of the deal
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:29 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I bet he'll get more
We certainly could have had him for 2/8M last offseason though. Cough
by Graham on Sep 25, 2008 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That doesn't stop me from wanting to offer it

So, tiebreaker with the Nationals is moot.
Final home game cancelled. Their next 3 games are against a contending team (Philies).
