by BrianL on Sep 25, 2008 3:02 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The thing

When a post has 900 comments and 700 of them are inside-joke wank between the same four people about something that only makes sense to those four people… it sucks for everyone else who is trying to wade through the threads and read more relevant comments.

I left a few hours ago to drive from Chehalis to home

On days when I am super busy at work

Or I spend most of the day on the road visiting clients I do not even bother with the OT Threads. They are impossible to catch up on. Much like game threads.

I look at this way.

That day seattlebruin and I hstarted the NPE vs PRC thread, it was a lot of fun. Contained within that one fanpost it was a goofy fun thing for a day. When either of us mention it now, it just one or two comments and then back to topics of the day.

The election joke was funny at first, but I think it just kind of became a monster at some point.

Fear the NPE

by thewyrm on Sep 25, 2008 3:16 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

And it would be one thing if it were 2-3 comments and that’s that. But in the cases in question, it’s not 2-3 comments… it’s entire threads that go on and on and then start again and go on and on.

by Gomez on Sep 25, 2008 3:15 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I really don't have a problem with jokes that are started on LL

but when inside jokes between four or five posters outside of LL consume 450+ comments, it gets a little tedious.

by BrianL on Sep 25, 2008 3:15 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes

LL memes are a good thing and are healthy for the community. They’ve worked great for several years

memes brought in from outside of LL are just annoying and don’t really fit

The point is, if something bugs you you should say so

and not wait til after the fact to voice your displeasure

Otherwise it makes it look like your are piling on just so you can fit in with the flavor of the day.

And that’s not pointed at you specifically.

by Thingray on Sep 25, 2008 3:09 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think so for sure

I think a lot of people here (myself included) are about to reach our boiling points.

Like sb said once the offseason comes and we start to care about baseball again, which is really why we all are here, it should get a lot better

by seattlebruin on Sep 25, 2008 3:12 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

By the time the Playoffs start it'll be back to baseball

Even the offseason will be interesting- there’s going to be a lot to write about and a lot for all of us to think about on a BASEBALL level.
Right now we’re just sort of sitting in limbo and the quality of the blog from everything but a front page post standpoint is sinking as a result

I know I haven't helped the last two days and I'm not going to deny that

but I like to think under normal circumstances I’m not a huge part of the problem.

I do have opinions in the way that I think things could be more effectively administered on a moderation level but I’m not getting into that here as they probably aren’t in line with the general consensus

Yeah kind of

I’ve still been reading this blog since the inception of L43 over 5 years ago, and since the inception of LL 3 years ago. LL has changed a ton in 3 years. And not for the better. I think there are a lot of causes to that problem and I don’t think it is all from the poster level.

But then we remember what happened before them when relevant threads ended up completely off track.

We used to have occasional good OT diaries like t he original beer thread and I wish that could happen.

I’m just afraid that the way the community has evolved it might be impossible

I dunno, I think all communities should have them

it’s worked pretty well here – the original goal was to have a place where people could talk about their vices (beer, music, whatever) and not clutter up the actually good baseball content, and they’ve done that. But with so many more people here now it’s threatening to tip into LL Junior High, and that’s not so bueno.
