The Thin Line Between Love and Hate
I have a question that I wanted to get a response to. At what point in your role a fan of a particular team does your blind love turn into unmitigated hate? Is there an actual scale involved? I ask this because I am now so literally disgusted by the Mariners that I have stopped watching games because when I do I root for them to lose. I don't like the way that makes me feel.
I was cautiously optimistic when Bavasi was fired, but even that has left me. The same people who thought Bill was the answer in the first place are still in charge of hiring his replacement. What proof do we have that have learned anything from experience?
I guess my question is thus: How many of you are still optimistic about the future of this team? How many of you are like me, wholly resigned that your team sucks and it isn't going to change in the forseeable future?

I believe they have learned some valuable lessons from this experience.
They still don’t have a clue how to build a baseball team, however.

I have many of the same feelings
We will have a new GM coming in, and with change brings a modicum of hope. As pessimistic as I feel about the competency of Chuck Armstrong, I know that the team has at times been successful with him in charge.
This season is dead to me. At some point this winter I know I will miss the sound of Dave Niehaus’ voice and the promise of Felix Day.

I'll be cautiously optimistic until a new GM is hired.
A competent GM could right this ship pretty quickly.

I thought this was going to be about the Iron Maiden song. But the lyrics are apt to the discussion.
When a person turns to wrong, is it a want to be, belong?
Part of things at any cost, at what price a life is lost
At what point do we begin, fighter spirit a will to win
But what makes a man decide, take the wrong or righteous road
There’s a thin line between love and hate
Wider divide that you can see between good and bad
There’s a grey place between black and white
But everyone does have the right to choose the path that he takes

I'll be optimistic if Larson's group buys out Lincoln/Nintento's share...
otherwise it’ll be more of the same.

Why do people believe this?
I just don’t get it.

I've become a lapsed M's fan
My only adoration is for Ichiro, Hernandez and Morrow.

We've had many fantastic lyrics from Gomez though...and for that I'm thankful.
I fucking hate you Mariners

I was sitting at home watching the game when Dave casually announced to the fans "By the way, Moyer was traded."
I F’ing snapped. Actually lost control snapped. Started kicking kicking and throwing things, screaming. Scared the shit out of my family. It probably took me a good 15 minutes to calm down.

Love/hate/despise/hope all at the same time, for different things.
Seems like the M’s have always been this way, and I’ve watched other organizations fortunes rise and fall. So for me that’s part of the game, it’s not limited to what’s taking place between the lines. So Chuck A. and Howie are players also, and they suck. I have absolutely no confidence they’ll make a good pick for GM, Chuck said he likes Lee P. because “we’re like minded”. At the same time it just makes it that much more interesting for me, since you have no idea what’s going to happen. Reason and common sense don’t apply, so it’s a total crapshoot. Make all the rational arguments for this guy or that woman, Chuck & Howie decisions are probably made by examining tea leaves, entrails, or the color and consistency of their own poo or something. I make despairing remarks about the team/FO all the time, still love the game, still have hope for the future. The future is a long time.

Okay that was just disgusting
You should have left it at tea leaves and entrails.

I disagree, he didn't go far enough.
I wanted estimates for what the different color and consistencies mean.

The Mariners are like a shiftless alcoholic brother that always wants to borrow money from you.
you despise his activities, because they end up being completely self-destructive and counterproductive, but you can’t help but love him because he’s your brother; when he asks for that $100 “to cover the rent”, you know he’s going to buy a couple dozen boxes of wine with it but you don’t care. He’s your brother. You try to stop him, for a while, then you realize he is who he is and it’s on you to accept or reject him.
So you accept him, and you move on with your life.

It should be noted at this point that I do not have a brother
and my sister is quite the responsible woman and only drinks in moderation.

So my poo metaphor is gross.
But I’ve been mulling over the “couple dozen boxes of wine” for $100 bucks. Gross.
