I have tickets for Tuesday night's game
If the team can find a way to lose all of their games until then, then I might just be able to witness history. Go 100/100!
That was just for the sake of Boston losing thereby giving the Rays more breathing room
no worries I have the Rays at heart
At least Ohio State beat Troy :(

Hah! Quick story:
When I lived in Japan, I had a friend whose family lived in Korea for a few years. He wanted a dog and his parents decided to get him one. So his mom went to a “pet store” and picked out a dog. The owner told her to come back in 2 days to pick up the dog, and when she did, the owner gave her a paper bag full of meat.
Talk about lost in translation. They never did attempt to adopt/buy a dog again while in Korea.

I think I am now officially over Geoff Baker
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 20, 2008 2:19 PM PDT up reply actions
I recently deleted DOV from my bookmarks
because while as okay as Detecto’s writing can be sometimes, there’s no reason to read a website that is so consistently wrong. The same goes for Baker.
Someone needs to dig up some Baker quotes about Bedard
from the first half of the season.
But to "feel something’’ in April that gets progressively worse? That’s pitching hurt. That’s crossing the line. Pitchers are lectured about this by the team’s training staff at the start of every season. Not all of the pitchers listen. Bedard did not listen.
Geoff Baker is a douche.
What the fuck
He was sucking Silva/Batista’s balls for pitching hurt and sucking, but Bedard pitches hurt and does reasonably well and he gets called out?
Wtf, Geoff.
But there's a difference between Silva/Batista/Washburn pitching hurt and Bedard pitching hurt!
Silva/Batista/Washburn talked to the media and openly bitched about the team.
Can we get some links and quotes on this?

Baker quotes?
Probably will take some doing but you’re sure to find some gems along the season:
Yes, this season is lost. And yes, the Mariners spent $48 million over four years to bring in Carlos Silva. But the guy does give you seven innings when he’s clicking. And tonight he was. Silva notches his first victory since April 17 in Oakland, a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres.
……
Silva talked about what he did differently tonight. The biggest change was in his command. Remember this morning, when I mentioned the command issue in regards to Jarrod Washburn? When I said that command has less to do with walk ratios and throwing strikes and more about location? Well, listen to Silva.
"You’ve got to throw strikes, but you’ve got to make your pitches,‘’ he said. "Always, I throw strikes, but I don’t make my pitches that way (like he did tonight). It’s two different things.
"It’s hard. It’s not easy. It’s hard because on this level, when the other team knows you’re going to be around the plate, if you don’t make your piutches and you don’t hit your spots, you’re going to get hit hard. And that’s what’s been happening to me. So, I have to hit my corners. When I don’t hit them, I’m going to be in trouble because they know I’m going to throw strikes.’’
And that, folks, is why walk rates and strike ratios are not always the best way to measure the command of certain types of pitchers. Not pitch-to-contact guys whose goal is to get the ball put into play, only not as hard as the hitters would like.
I think that's going to be a bit tricker.
I don’t recall Baker ever parading anyone for pitching through pain.
Ironic post from last year:
No, I don’t think this was a Jeff Weaver type of “injury” where routine, daily shoulder pain is exaggerated to spare a roster spot. Yes, I do think MLB should take a tougher stance on these things. But as I mentioned, pitchers feel pain of some sort all the time. Who are we to say what is serious and what isn’t? Just a question to ponder.
I fucking hate you Mariners
I'm pretty sure he did too, I think I know the date of the game
After the 06/26/08 Batista start, when Batista complained that he was the only guy pitching through it.
Here's the June 08 Archive
Can’t find any real juicy bits other than Batista ranting that he’s pitching hurt which was actually quoted by Larry Stone….and then later, Batista denies saying it, apparently.
It think it was more of Baker grilling Bedard for pitching through injury while glossing over other people doing the same thing.
I couldn't find anything
I think Thunda’s right. Baker just chose to ignore the other guys who were doing it.
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 20, 2008 3:10 PM PDT up reply actions
Still rather hypocritical.
Just not blatantly so.
I think it was more the subtle jabs. The quotes he chose to run. Etc.
It was never blatant, but it certainly left the taste in my mouth that he was praising the “toughness” of Batista and Silva, etc.
Harder to prove
I guess I won’t be calling him out on the front page then.
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 20, 2008 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions
Backhanded compliments
Baker, from June 29th:
Erik Bedard wasn’t ace-like. But he gave his team a chance to win, 94 pitches or not.
From the fourth of July
"Erik did a great job,‘’ Riggleman said. "That’s a heckuva ballclub over there and they make you throw a lot of pitches. He was throwing so many pitches that were very close and — rightfully so — they were balls. But most teams would have taken a cut at some of those pitches, which would have kept his pitch count down. They just forced him into a very laboring five innings and they did a good job.’’
I agree with him on most of that. The issue isn’t the work he did on the scoreboard. He allowed just the one run. It’s the longevity. This team didn’t trade away five guys for a pitcher who needs his bullpen to hold off the Tigers for four innings.
…
Thing is, this is now what the team has. A five or six inning pitcher who can hold teams to a run or two. In case you hadn’t noticed, that’s what Jarrod Washburn has done lately.

I wish Riggles would punch someone in the face right now and MLB deducts us 3 wins as a punishment.

0-10 on the standings - the hilarity is complete.
I paid £2500 to watch the worst team in baseball this year! :D

I wish I could find a copy of The Whitest Team in Baseball.
The Toronto Star seems to have destroyed any copies of it.
I believe it was entitled "White Jays"

That's right.
The link in the USSM archive is dead, and there seems to be no references to it on the TS website.

I've never gotten to read it.
I’ve wondered for a while what all the fuss was about.

ha!
I just joined Brett’s club. Geoff called me out.
The Mariners are the only team to beat the Rays when they have a crowd of 30k+
And it only cost us Bedards Shoulder
Seriously?
The Red Sox and Yankees must have that kind of draw every game at the Trop and they have gone winless?
So the one game the Red Sox didn't draw 30k+ and the Rays lost, they drew 29,772.
It’s just sad the Rays don’t draw 30k+ regularly. And I find it crazy that the stadium used to have a 45k+ capacity and now it is down to just over 36k. In the land of maximizing revenue, you don’t see stadium capacity decrease often. And people think Seattle has bad fans…
Awww fuck the Cubs won the division.
I hate the Cubs.

Baker was reading this thread
From his blog:
Oh, and by the way, I wasn’t covering the series at Shea Stadium in June when Batista made his veiled comments about Bedard. That was Larry Stone’s first trip of the year. Hope that saves you and your buddies some time.
This hell of pleases me.
You're reading this game thread right now, aren't you, Geoff?

How about the guy with bad sentence structure and awful spelling?
Seems like what a writer would do for cover. Wait, that includes most of your picks.

And how much do you think a playoff ticket is going to cost me?
How much would it cost me to get back?
Honestly I can't afford to take time off of work, even for something like that.
Harvest season is wrapping up and I’m going to be spending just about all of October assessing what kind of gear our processing plants need.
All a moot point.
Maybe if they’re still playing in late October I’ll be able to do something, I’ll be at a work conference in Orlando for a few days, but even then I’m not sure if I’ll be able to slip out.
Those bells the Rays fan have are shit and should be stopped.

I love how I now post at a blog
that has AK1984 and ASUBoyd as regulars.
Not so fast my friend.
The Rays put three players on the 40 man onto the 60 day DL. So they can put Price, Perez, and someone else (back-up C) on the post-season roster. Thank you Chad Orvella and Jae Kuk Ryu.

They will.
Call it the K-Rod exemption. It was the plan all along. Price will come out of the pen, although he will likely start Tuesday in one of the doubleheader games.

Tricky bastards.
Must be nice to have a team run by people who understand basic rules and how to exploit them.
I liked their DL manipulation the best.

Geoff decided to abuse one of his blog’s regulars.
Is there a better view of the play?
It would have been great if Perlozzo sucker-punched the ump in the balls and just started beating on him.
