But ERA and W-L record are deceiving and stupid stats!
I fucking hate you Mariners
You can't argue with that.

Number 1 draft pick here we come!
Strasburg is nice but seriously ANOTHER RHP represented by Boras if 9 mil and a ML contract won’t reel this kid in…
that sentence almost made sense
and really, I’m no defender of Boras, but the degree of distaste for him expressed by everyone on the planet is kinda ridiculous. He’s an agent. His job is to get his client the best deal he possibly can. He does that better than most. If I could hire him to get me jobs, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
I share the exact same viewpoint on him as you.
He’s the best at his job and with all owners making money hand over fist in the era of revenue sharing, an argument could even be made that he’s taking money from the rich and giving it to the “poor.”
However, while I don’t claim to know the whole story behind it, it sure looks like he screwed Pedro Alvarez pretty bad. My understanding is that Alvarez would have been fine with the $6 million offer from the Pirates, and now he might have to re enter the draft next year where he won’t get nearly that much. I don’t know how much the value is for senior first baseman with no pro experience, but I bet it’s not as much as a 21-year-old junior.
I'm not sure the distaste in that comment is so much for him
as the fact that anyone represented by him isn’t going to come cheap.
Read the comment guidelines.
You almost violated two of them.

I remember when this place's only rules were not to reference politics or be a complete asshat
And now we have a fucking list.
The spirit of the list is understandable
I just don’t want this place to turn into a place where your thoughts are dismissed ad-hominem because of your grammar.
"GRAMMAR CHECK!"
Calling out the Style Guide is fine as long as people take the argument for what it is.
It's one thing to not have perfect grammar. That's excusable, grammar is complex.
It’s completely different when I have no idea what the person is saying because the grammar/punctuation is bad/missing.
Yeah
If mistakes are all over the comment(s) and render them difficult to read, I understand stopping the bus and calling the person out. But only then.
The only thing I don't like about it the first item.
I think it’s worded too strongly and comes too close to the “Respect post counts” vibe from message boards. I’d rather have it be more of a suggestion that many things have been discussed here prior and there’s a very good search feature.
Also, that many people have been here for awhile and have developed far more of a community aspect to the place and that you cannot just show up and join right in even if you know all the inside jokes from the wiki or something.
In other words, I wouldn’t say you have to wait months of lurking before posting, but for the first while after you join, stick to posting about baseball (and following the other rules) and then when people recognize you, move more into the social parts. This is, after all, a baseball blog. You should be joining to talk about baseball.
Your subject line has bad grammar in it

Actually, it has a missing word.
Is that still technically bad grammar?
... He was.
And then banned again.
And again.
And again…
At least I channeled that energy into something creative

Calling out the grammar/syntax/conjugation mistakes is heeelarious.
I found a website explaining all the proper usages, it was great. Had little cartoon pictures and everything. I’ll try to find it again, maybe give you guys a handy reference for ‘repeat offenders’.
"Sorry I hit you in the helmet Hank, I meant to hit you in the neck." Stan Williams to Hank Aaron.
One could say that repeating dead meme after dead meme
constitutes asshattery

I understood that sentence because of my days as a sought after proof reader.

Also
Slamming this guy for going off topic belies the rest of comments below, half of which are technically off-topic.
Cut this guy some slack.
I gotta agree with Gomez. I don't really see the problem here.

I can read this post just fine
It’s slightly choppy because of the all-caps in the middle, but if I had a dime for every time I read a choppy looking comment I could buy SBN.
Can you translate then?
The best I can figure is that it’s missing a question martk after Boras and an ellipsis at the end, but I’m not confident in that.
Reader's Digest version
“Picking Strasberg would be great but Strasberg + Boras = too much $$$$$ to shell out”
Strasburg is nice but seriously ANOTHER RHP represented by Boras if 9 mil and a ML contract won’t reel this kid in…

It could always be worse.
We could all be Brewers fans right now.
My god that game today must have felt like getting kicked repeatedly in the sack by a mule.
B.J. Upton's new nickname = "Laggard McShambleslow"
It was painful
listening to Uecker’s call. “Cubs win,” followed by 20 seconds of stunned silence.
Everyone around here knew that some sort of regression was likely, but I don’t think anybody expected it to be this huge.
Worse than being a Brewers fan
you could be a Caridnals fan.
It was thereupon decided that the world began in 1984.
You'll never make it back home, Steven.
Speaking of (and this is pure speculation), I can’t imagine Moores ponying up to pay Strasburg, especially considering the messy divorce he’s going through.
Divorce?
He’s going through a divorce? I have hockey pads older than him.

Can't believe we are still even in the race for last place
Let alone leading the damn thing. As one last giant fuck you from the sports gods, I’m fully expecting us to leap frog SD and Washington on the last day of the season.
Damnit Valbuena
If not for your +2.4%, it would have been a group effort loss today!

And all this time I thought it was Dusty Baker..
Is Dave Spaghetti still the pitching coach there or am I just stuck in 2003?
