9/16: Open Game Thread
Seattle Mariners at Kansas City Royals, Sep 16, 2008 5:10 PM PDT
Brandon Morrow will draw the start, but left-hander Jarrod Washburn will be lurking in the background should Morrow falter or run up a high pitch count.
Washburn hasn't pitched since Aug. 30 because of a strained abdominal muscle. He's ready to get in some innings and a pain-free performance on Tuesday would leave him in position to get a subsequent start, according to manager Jim Riggleman.

Lets make this interesting
If next years team is within 5 games of .500 at the end of play on August 31st I get to be made mod for September 09. If not than J/M/G each get to cockpunch me once at their choice of time and venue.

Seriously, while we all think we can contend next year, if the Mariners “tear it down”, letting Griffey come in and DH while putting up a .250/.350/.430 isn’t the worst thing in the world. Let the guy ride off into the sunset.

.243/.348/.411 this year.
Safeco is good for left-handed hitters. That’s really not a bad estimate of what he would do.
Whether he’d want to come here is another thing. But if he wants to, and the M’s are going into the Season with Tuiasosopo and the rest of the Rainiers up with the team, it doesn’t hurt anything to give him a final season as a Mariner.

So is .250/.350/.430 really off the charts overly optimistic for him then?
He has a .266 BABIP with a 20.6% LD rate. The HR/F sucks compared to years past (10.1%) so maybe his power is gone, but is a .780 OPS really completely out of reach for him?

I plots where a major character is “leaving” because we all know they’re not gonna, so the dialouge will really have to RISE ABOVE to redeem what I’m sure is going to be a meh premiere.

No, he's in decline and has lost a lot of legspeed, which is a problem because 99% of his hits are infield hits.
We should trade him before the rest of the league figures it out.
