There's all sorts of things to talk about today. Happy: The Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics did not disappoint. Not so happy: Bernie Mac died today. Happy: uh, it's not raining? I don't know, it's too early in the morning to think of all the things that are worth discussing in a wide-open forum such as this one. The triumphant return of Steel Pole Bath Tub to Music Fest NW? A LL Road trip to Music Fest NW?
Anyway. There's all sorts of stuff to talk about. So talk.

Wow, so it WAS sarcoidosis.
That’s a bummer though. Not a huge fan of Bernie Mac, but he was a talented guy. Always sad when people die so young.
Opening Ceremonies were pretty amazing; the torch lighting was ridiculously over the top and I liked it. The countdown things was great as well.
It’s raining here. :/

I liked him in the Ocean's movies
but then I really liked the Ocean’s movies, even the second one.
The opening ceremonies were pretty cool. It’s amazing that all that stuff that went on was powered by humans and not by machines – anybody who’s not just a little bit nervous about China’s desire to have a place in the world after seeing that much manpower do that many amazing things is a little shortsighted ZOMG NO POLITICS.

There was quite clearly a message being sent.
Something along the lines of, “Not only will we be a part of the world cultural community, we’ll do it better than you as well.” I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that, for reasons it’s best not to get in to, but it’s quite clear that it’s happening.

Interesting conversation
But the politics rule’s going to kill it at some point so it may as well be here. Sorry.

You are absolutely correct to do this
I wasn’t going to pursue it any further beyond my original statement anyway. Now I have to go start a geopolitics blog or something.

I'll repost something I wrote about his death earlier today
My enduring memory of Bernie Mac is when he got the celebrity nod to sing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” at Wrigley Field during the 7th inning stretch of the infamous 2003 NLCS Game 6, aka the Steve Bartman game. He was very into it, and with the Cubs, one win from the World Series, leading the Marlins 3-0 at the time, with Mark Prior pitching a great game, he and the rest of the crowd was pretty jacked.
Bernie Mac embellished the singing of the song, “So let’s root root for the CHAMPS!... CHAMPS! CHAMPS! CHAMPS!” This made him look especially dumb after the Bartman Incident preceded the 8 run disaster inning that led to the 8-3 loss and the subsequent game 7 loss to the Marlins.
“CHAMPS! CHAMPS! CHAMPS!” indeed. I wonder what he was thinking when he walked out of Wrigley that night. You think he thought, all the way up to his untimely death, that he jinxed his hometown Cubs?

Seattle/Vancouver to co-bid for 2028 Olympics?

Obviously going to hinge a lot on how 2010 goes.

Not going to happen.
FIFA ruled out co-hosting after all the infighting that surrounded the 02 Japan/ Korea world cup. But if they keep the rotation in tract the ‘18 world cup is all but the states with Qwest likely to still be considered a premier venue by then. Although can somebody explain how Seattle got passed over in 94?

Mariel Zagunis won a second gold medal, which means I went to high school and took Spanish with a two time Olympic Gold Medalist. Who wants to touch me?

The Opening Ceremony was incredible.
The light drums, the blocks, the dude running on air . . . I watched it twice.

Perhaps my favorite director.
