LL Softball 8/14 (THU): VENUE CHANGE
All right, so I am leaving town on the 16th for Salem to work on a Masters, but I want to get one more softball out of you guys.
Play begins at 6pm and will end when we deem that it has been completed.
CHANGED LOCATION: Thursday's games will be played at Cal Anderson Park (Corner of Pine & 11th, 6 blocks North of the Seattle U. field. map here. There is parking on 11th Ave.)
I hope y'all who didn't show up on Saturday get a chance for Thursday, we're supposed to have weather in the low 80s and sunny, not the somewhat rainy crap we had to deal with on Saturday.
Sat. Aug. 9 Recap:
We were a bit short on people on Saturday, so we mostly spent time taking batting practice. We also could not use the regular softball field since the groundskeepers there must have been Team Tractor fans and dumped a load of dirt at the second base position and put other tractor-like devices on the field. That's mostly the reason for the move, we're likely to get a field we can use at Cal Anderson.
In the meantime, Luke, who posted below, absolutely beasted softballs in batting practice from the southeast corner of the field over the fence on the southwest side, into the parking lot of the Seattle U. building, as the ball rolled into the lobby of said building, roughly 320 feet away. That was probably the highlight of the day; hope to see you on Thursday!

Remember: La Hacienda on Commercial.
Nothing to do with this post but, considering I won’t be in Seattle on 8/14, I felt the need to contribute in some way.

I'm personally more of a fan of Guadalajara Grill, which is about 1/4 mile south of La Hacienda, but both are delicious.

Anyone up for softball on 8/9? I'd have at least two takers (me and a buddy)
as we’ll be up in Seattle on the 9th for the Rays game.
Also, best of luck at Willamette. I grew up in Salem and have since moved away, but I think you’ll enjoy it.
La Hacienda is alright, but you can do better. The Ram directly accross the street from Willamette which I think has since been renamed Big Horn Brewery has some nice beer selections as well as a very tasty burger.
by andrewgolfsalot on Aug 4, 2008 1:07 PM PDT 0 recs
The Ram has nothing to do with Mexican food.

I know, sorry, it was from an earlier conversation.
And there are Rams/Big Horns in the Seattle/Tacoma area, too.
TLsTRs already has lived in Salem…so we probably don’t need to tell him this, anyway.

New guy here, but I'd like to play.
Thursday would work. I may be able to bring a co-worker along as well.
I haven’t swung a bat in a while. Anyone know of any batting cages near Kent/Covington? Would like to get into the cage so I don’t overly embarass myself out there.
by J.W. Pezzino on Aug 5, 2008 10:56 PM PDT 0 recs
They've got some at the Family Fun Center in Renton, but that's the best I've got for you.
Really, it is unlikely you’re going to embarrass yourself any more than the rest of us do.

Deanna used to stump for the Bullwinkle batting cages
But yeah, if you know how to swing a bat effectively and make reasonable contact, you’re probably ahead of half of us if ability. We’ll probably take a bit of BP before the game too.

Could someone provide with approximate cross streets for the field?

If you go east on James St. from downtown, the ballpark will be on your right

We played an interesting game of 5v5 last time
and 7v7 is pretty obvious (batting team sends out a pitcher and a catcher), but what do you do if it’s 6v6?

with 12 players
you probably play 3 teams of 4. Two teams in the field, one at bat.

With a softball. That does include the rolling. It’s 243 to the bushes and about 280 to the pavement in between the rows of cars.

Mine swelled up to about softball size and had some awesome bruising.
I’ve never really sprained an ankle before, but I basically never swell from injuries so this scares me. I also heard a very loud POP when it happened, it sounded like a gunshot.
I’m going to experiment with taping it and see what I can come up with though.
