Put Tex at 1B and Furcal at SS
and regress Clement and Beltre’s luck and that’s a fun enough lineup to watch.
Agreed
Although you could probably get a .280/.350/.450 performance out of 1B for next to nothing and you could invest in center, and Sheets/Burnett/CC (although CC isn’t realistic)
I'd be fine with that too.
If only we’d traded for Andy LaRoche.
Depends on how much obviously
and an overall strategy being in place this winter, but it’s an option I would look at for sure.
In that situation I would hope that no GM is stupid enough to go 4 years.
I’d even go 3 if the price wasn’t too outrageous, like some sort of vesting option based on the first two or if the contract was under ~$60m.
There was a recent article
suggesting that Boras thinks Manny can get something like a 4 year/$100 million deal.
The point is that Manny will take it seriously
as much as Manny can take anything seriously.
It wasn't funny enough.

Floyd
I bet one of Bill Bavasi’s first acts in his new job was writing a report to Walt Jocketty on how the Reds should offer four of their better prospects to the White Sox for Gavin Floyd this offseason.
Yukiko Ueno
So this girl from Japan threw 21 innings and threw over 310 pitches in 2 games on the same day (giving up 7 runs total) and could be pitching in the Gold Medal game in the next day.
Oh what, there a Mariner game coming on?
Are we still hitting it to center?

No way
Neither Swisher nor Thome can bunt worth a damn.
Tony LaRussa does not know what he is doing
You bat a high on-base percentage guy in the 8th hole, not the pitcher, because he serves as a second leadoff hitter.
I think it's a good idea
because if you are hitting Ankiel/Glaus/Ludwick second to get them more at bats, it makes sense to move the pitcher further away from the 2 spot.
If you are in the NL
you should bat the pitcher second because he is always the best bunter in the lineup.

That area under the bus is running out of room
The Yankees are 3-7 in the games Pudge Rodriguez has started since he came over from the Tigers. He is 8 for 35 (.229) with one RBI. Andy Pettitte threw to him once then asked not to again.

Because he's been horrid catching normal pitches too.
And popups. And runners.
Hopefully not until 2009 at the earliest.
No reason not to have him catch everyday in 2008 and see if he can become satisfactory because he has so much more value. C to 1B or DH is 20 runs worth of defensive value and opportunity cost. He’d have to be really really bad to make more sense at DH than C (in a vacuum).

I will top this.
Then, as the buildup intensified and we looked at a potential for a 3-way deal that would make us better and cheaper, we get this. A guy who has worse peripherals than Joel “Fucking Sucks” Pineiro did last season.
It’s like having sex with a blowup doll. Sure, it’s fun and everything, but eventually you realize that you’re loving something that will never love you back. The Mariners will never repay my fanship with success except by blind luck. They’re the Special Olympics kid who somehow made his way into the actual Olympic track meet. Sure, there’s a chance he could win, and that would be great, but expecting it to happen or even hoping for it to happen should be automatic grounds for commitment.
I’m not leaving, or even going to stop rooting for the team, I have too much loyalty to the city I love (and really, that’s the only reason I root for the Ms. It’s too bad they didn’t move in retrospect. Then I’d be free.) to stop, but I’m just going to not care nearly as much because what’s the point? I can suffer through losing, as long as there’s hope at the end of the tunnel. But if there’s no hope then I might as well just go root for the fucking Cubs.
If you can top Jeff's rant from a few days ago

Not knowing what he said, I got thinking:
Wouldn’t it be awesome for Dave to get so frustrated one game during the third inning he stands up and proclaims “I’m done, fuck this team” and takes off his headset and walks out. I hope this is the way he retires.
I think you guys are catching on.
Dave’s entire career has been a career of heartbreak. Yes, there have been a lot of amazing moments, but they can be singled down to 4-5 years. And in those great 4-5 years, never once did he taste a World Series appearance.
I guess I shouldn’t hope for him to retire this way, but I wouldn’t blame him if he did.

I'm beginning to think there's no way he re-signs here even if they offer him a contract.
Assuming it’s not an absolutely bat-shit insane contract.

He's hitting to well
obviously he’;s not going to hit .300, but he will end p having the kind of year that will draw attention from many teams.
I think if he had no intention of leaving he’d have been extended already.
I'm sure he wants to make a bunch of money and maybe play for a competitive team once in his life.

I hope not
resigning him, even if he’s good will cost us.
It’s best to let him walk, take the picks, and sign someone else.
Luckily, I reallly don't think he's at all interested in re-signing here.

My childhood was spent growing up in suburban Chicago listening to him rant- because of him I will never hate the White Sox and because of him everytime I see a home run my instinct is to yell “CAN YOU PUT IT ON THE BOARD???? YES!”

Christ!
In gif form he really, really, truly looks like a hawk. I never noticed before….perhaps because I avoid him like I wish I could avoid McCarver.
I can just see him digging his talons into some poor rodent while shrieking, “Put one on the board for the good guys!”.
