We call this "pullin' a CC"
"Maybe Chief has to go and grab somebody from his neck and throw him into the wall."
Because it deserves to be re-posted.
On the rumors that the Twins were offering Boof Bonser, Washburn said: "If that was the case, how much more do you think you’re going to get? A young guy with a great arm who’s cheap.’’
and FWIW
But I’m [Larry Stone] told by a baseball source with knowledge of the Mariners’ talks with Minnesota that contrary to what has been written elsewhere, Boof Bonser’s name never came up.
The Mariners fired Bavasi on my birthday.
They clearly like me better.
The Cardinals torched the Rays on my birthday.

Miguel Cairo is playing 1B and batting second today.
To hell with this team.
We know they've stopped caring because....
No Washburn trade with 2 opportunities and Cairo batting second
It's like not getting rid of Washburn was their "fuck you" to all of us ...
and now Cairo starting and batting second is like the “and your mother too.”

That's what I was thinking of.
Whoops.
Who is this guy?
Pressed fruit bowl.

Well
at least the Dodgers are in first. And Joe Torre finally has learned how to put his best possible offensive players all in one line up.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
Also to make you guys feel worse
in their never ending quest to find a back up for Nomar Garciaparra who won’t kill the team on offense the Dodgers are reportedly looking into trading for Ronnie Belliard.
Surely Yuniesky Betancourt is better than Belliard, Angel Berroa, and Pablo Ozuna!
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
If the Mariners think Washburn has value
They probably still think Yuni is a gold glover fielder.
JI/Robert '08!
Considering people here
think the M’s could’ve got at least one of Loney, Kemp, or Ethier for Yuni. The M’s front office probably thought they could get Hu, Ethier and Kershaw.

Had a lousy cup of coffee with the team this year, sent back to AAA and turned out he was having eye problems. Had them fixed and has been hitting well since.

Belliard is better than you think.
"Maybe Chief has to go and grab somebody from his neck and throw him into the wall."
You would also have him next year at a very reasonable price.
"Maybe Chief has to go and grab somebody from his neck and throw him into the wall."
Also, we need help. Please send us something useful for Belliard.
"Maybe Chief has to go and grab somebody from his neck and throw him into the wall."
Ronnie Belliard?
The one playing for the Nationals that has all of 6 games in his major league career at shortstop? Not sure how he’d be a suitable backup for Nomar.

Well middle infield back up
most likely for Nomar insurance but occasionally spelling Kent at 2B. The Dodgers infield is already atrocious defensively outside of Loney.

I wanted to see Silva pulled after giving up 9 runs in 0+ innings.
This thread is pretty dead.
I suppose if I wasn’t at work I wouldn’t be around.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
Friday thread + Carlos Silva + Twins + fan base that just took a huge kick to the nuts
Pretty rough combo. I’m at work, and I can’t even bring myself to turn on MLB Radio.
I don't have radio on
I just peek at Gameday in between compiles and app restarts.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
I saw someone mention above they couldn't bring themselves to watch Silva pitch.
I wanted to chime in that nobody’s seen Silva pitch in a loooong time. To cheesy, I had to let it go.
It struck me watching the Angels game the other night
Miguel Cairo looks like he should be a lot better at hitting for power than he is.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
On the radio Rizz always sounds pretty unsurprised when Cairo gets a hit.
I’m always caught off guard by the announcer voice change that signals action in the game. But he did get the first hit tonight.
I've got all that jazz on my iPod somewhere, defense wins is a song?
You’re the jazz man around here right?
I get the night off from the kids, I have sushi, beer, a game.
And I get Silva on a Friday night. Yippeeee yahoooooo!!!
I can't get into preseason games. I've tried, I just can't get excited about bench guys.
But being at the game is probably different.
No argument. The bowling conversation in the ot thread was a nice change from the Wash debacle
I’m sinking to new lows.
I enjoy preseason a bit more
now that I’m more into college football. I watched the 4th quarter of the last Seahawks game just to see if Booty would do anything cool.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
My boss, a Chargers season ticket holder, gave me his tickets to the game against the Hawks on the 25th.
Fairly high up, but RIGHT on the 50-yard line.
Preseason is pretty lame, but it’s good enough when you live 1,200 miles away from your team.
Now that I'm thinking about it.
Being in a stadium full of people wearing nothing but home team jerseys, cheering, being happy, a season full of potential still in front of you. TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!
Christ, they're skipping the first 2 pitches for commercials on the radio now.
I bitch about this all the time. This team is putting me into several ruts I’d like to get out of.
Revolving door. Yeesh. Starting Silva is like starting your long reliever.
That pretty much applies to most of the staff. That pretty much applies to everybody but Felix. Our staff is basically bullpen material. Shit.
Fuck this shit, I'm buying a Rays cap.

I bought my hat in February, and it's not pink, so I'm OK with myself.
It looks bandwagon-ey now, but I was just jumping on the “look at all that fun young talent” bandwagon. I didn’t think they’d actually start winning this soon. I was just hyped that they might finish the season at .500 and be fun to watch.
I started my closet love of the Tampa Bay back in 2002
when I decided to take the worst franchise in High Heat baseball and turn it into a perennial playoff contender.
Yeah, they bought 3DO, which came with the franchise.
Never the most beautiful game, but damn was it fun to play.
MS could make a baseball game though
if they wanted too.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
2K only bought the exclusive third-party rights.
Unless I’m mistaken, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all have the right to create a game with MLB rosters.
Wrong
The exclusivity deal prevents other third party publishers from developing their own MLB titles without paying 2k. It does not prohibit the first party dev studios from developing their own games. Nintendo had a licensed MLB game in development on the Cube that got canceled and Sony has the show. The hot theory was that MS would make their own franchise, but I have a feeling 2k convinced them not too.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
LATE
But yeah, you’re right. I think 2K might pay a higher-than-normal fee to Microsoft to prevent them from publishing a baseball game.
Considering 2k Baseball does better on 360
I wouldn’t be surprised by this at all. If MS made a HH clone for the 360 that would probably be the end of the road for 2k and baseball.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
I had such high hopes when Ben Brinkman signed on.
I still play the game, but it hurts to think about how much better it could be.
You and everyone else
just goes to show that producers in the games industry are vastly over rated.
If it wasn't for college football I'd probably have given up on sports.
This year's 2K baseball was awful.
Glitchiest game I’ve played in ages.
Yeah, it has major problems.
The patch helped the frame rate, but the chugging graphics before and after the game are inexcusably bad.
And the graphics are worse than the year before. It just makes no sense. They had the ball rolling in the right direction with 2K7 and somehow made it uglier.
The pitching is fun, though. That’s what keeps me playing. Using the right stick to pound the bottom of the zone with Felix is a blast.
Then there's the broken announcing and color commentary
and the problems with Zelasko and Physioc’s commentary.
I fucking hate this team.
"Maybe Chief has to go and grab somebody from his neck and throw him into the wall."
I'm not sure what I want to do more
Watch the game or go drive randomly, wasting the precious gas in my car
So not only is Silva a shitty pitcher, he contributes to global warming.
I never thought I’d find more reasons to hate him.
Contemplating this idea
I think my little brothers’ friends might be having a party in which case means i get to use this
“hey little girl….want some beer?”

I'm just rec'ing that.
I’m too busy eating this delicious sushi to crack jokes. And is anybody up in the bullpen? Ought to just leave Silva out there to eat this one for the crap he’s pulled lately.
I see Carlos' problem
His man breasts interfere with the proper follow through on his pitches.

Hope you don’t mind.
Larry Stone talked to Lee P earlier.
Brace yourselves.
But he did want to get the point across, again, that the Mariners are not looking for salary dumps, but, rather, talent. That would be their explanation for the hard line they are reputed to be taking in trade negotiations. Obviously, there is a significant portion of fans who believe that the Mariners would be well-served just to get Washburn’s $10 million off the books for next year, regardless of the return. The Mariners clearly disagree, because they just had a golden opportunity to do just that.
Pelekoudas also hinted that there could be a larger trade down the road, one in which the Mariners might even take on salary to get a better player .
One last thing: I clarified the rule regarding putting a player back on waivers after he has been pulled back. That can’t be done for 30 days, it turns out. So in the case of Washburn and Raul Ibanez, the 30 days would put them beyond the Aug. 31 deadline for postseason eligibility. That makes it extremely unlikely either of them will be dealt prior to the offseason.
So we’re stuck with Washburn.
Too bad you can't buy any talent with ten million dollars.

So why are they asking for the 10mil, and talent? Eat the 10, just ask for talent.

As long as Washburn isn't terrible they aren't going to eat his salary for a minor upgrade.

Nope, too much respect. Found myself constructing sentences that included moist a lot though.
I’m laying off the ‘s’ word just for you. I’ve been watching South Park re-runs while the game is on. I’m trying to think of a use for ‘Chicken Lover’, and the M’s. My brain locked up.

Trading him for less than a big haul would be admitting a mistake.
These country club WASP bastards are blissfully unaware of the very idea that they are even capable of mistakes.
We’ll probably DFA him some time next year when he’s put up Silvaesque numbers and then it will be Jarrod’s fault for not performing.
"When I'm a evaluating a player the first three things I look at are: Character, character, and character."
-Charles Armstrong esq.
Maybe Carlos Silva should throw Carlos Silva up against a wall....
God I can’t believe we’re stuck with him for couple more years :( How fucking depressing.
I really look forward...
To the post game interview where Carlos Silva will rip all his teammates for his shittastic performance. And then give Geoff Baker a story on his all new super secret adjustment that will magically make him a Major League pitcher in his next start.
It might be more interesting to watch the little league world series right now
At least there is some talent there
Never in my most pessimistic states of mind did I think Silva would be this horrible.
Look on the bright side, at least this contract is about 20% over.

It's the game. No clocks, no consistent park dimensions, etc. etc.
It will all change in my lifetime. TV, betting. I’m resigned to it.
Because with the shear amount of games during the season theres no way that one blown call can screw everything up
There are 1000 combinations of things that has to go wrong and that’s # 145 on the list
They should have tried harder or done one other thing different during the regular season
And Pierzynski is an ass anyway, I have no remorse for him
He's the one who benefited from a terribly blown call.

I'm not into the math so much, so I hate the replay.
I’m a traditionalist at heart. Calls go both ways, blah blah blah. But I see the point the replay camp makes, and not going to argue it.
From the replay, that's got to be one of the top three most blatantly wrong calls I think I've ever seen.

BJ Upton's laziness knows no bounds.
B.J. Upton was pulled from Friday’s game for apparently failing to hustle while attempting to beat out a double play.
It’s the second time he’s been benched this week. Upton went out to the field before the inning, but just before Matt Garza had finished tossing his warm-up pitches, manager Joe Maddon sent Justin Ruggiano to replace him. Coincidentally, with two outs in the sixth inning, Ruggiano had a line drive bounce off his glove. It was ruled a hit, ending Garza’s bid for a no-hitter.
