If you just type “& hearts” (without the space) you don’t need a semi-colon to still get the graphic.

Also, what's the best theme park you've ever been to?
I’m going to Knoebel’s next week. Nice old-timey style park, wooden coasters, cheap good food, and all that. The only thing I can find wrong with it is people smoke everywhere in it. Still much better than the commercialized madness of a Six Flags or Disney shithole.
Six Flags Magic Mountain, absolutely no doubt in my mind
I’m not at the park for the themes – I’m there because the rides ROCK.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Disneyland as well. But no more than once a year. Or once every two years. Or only with pretty girls. I think that’s enough disclaimers.

Yeah, I'm not much of a ride person.
I’ll get on them if someone wants me to, but I just don’t find them that exciting.
On the topic though, what do you think of the rides at Knottsberry Farms? I was there and really liked the place (and atmosphere) in general, but I don’t ride enough rides to know if they stack up to a Six Flags or similar.
Better than the two Disney parks for sure. Definitely not in the league of Six Flags
Well… actually they have a few rides that are near Six Flags quality, it’s just that Six Flags has about ten pretty awesome rides (e.g. enough that you can ride each one once in a day, kill the whole day, and have a great time)
if you want atmosphere and not too much over the top commercialization, Knott’s is probably the best in SoCal. For cheesiness and stupid fun, Disney. For rides and such, SF MM.

Cedar Point rules
I go about once a year and enjoy it every time. And the new Kings Island one does look sick, but Kings island has limited land to build new rides so they don’t get new ones as frequently as Cedar Point

Holy crap! I feel for you. I broke my forearm last year.
The ends of the bones punched through a bunch of nerves and tendons. The nerve damage was the slow part of the healing process, after 7 months I thought I was going to wind up with a claw for a hand. Tried acupuncture out of desperation, within 2 weeks everything was nearly back to normal. Maybe not for everybody, but something to keep in mind. Wish I’d tried it a lot earlier in the healing process.

I am in love with the semi-colon.
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
It's is a contraction
If you’re unsure, always think of “it’s” as saying “It is” and the use of it makes more sense.
It’s a hot day outside = OK
Its a hot day outside = nope
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
What about pluralization?
When something belongs to it? Is it “It’s” as well or do you use Its to show the distinction from the contraction. (I don’t know why, but I now have conjunction junction stuck in my head).
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
Pluralization?
You mean the possesive form? Two different things.
Conjunction: It is = It’s
Possesion: Ownership = Its

It's a good place, but the staff is a bit...uh....
let’s just say that when I was a regular there, some of the staff would pocket drink money. Blatantly. And yeah, the cooler-than-thou quotient is pretty high. It’s a great theory, but the execution needs work.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

I don't care if it's trendy either, it would just be nice to be able to bowl and get decent drink service at the same time.

That you can do.
The bar is about 4 steps behind the lanes, and they come around pretty frequently.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Where I usually bowl, the bar is about the size of a coat closet, so it takes about an hour to get a cheap warm beer.
I'm back to liking midgets too much.
This place is better than that, for that
but it’s more of a see-and-be-seen cool person place than a serious bowling alley, if that matters.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Screw it then. I take my bowling pretty seriously.

Majestic sucks. It's a kids playground.
I'm back to liking midgets too much.
I haven't been there for a couple of years
but their arcade is bigger than most alleys and the concourse is pretty wide. That said, I don’t really care for it one way or another.
It’s sad, because I really did like Leilani Lanes. I swear it was the easiest house in Seattle. I bowled a lot at Hiline in Burien, and I know the guy who runs it, but the shot at least always used to be a challenge to me. The owner, Pat Johns, knows how to make you a better bowler.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Aug 15, 2008 2:02 PM PDT up reply actions
Majestic is all about big screen TV's and the arcade.
The lanes aren’t even really separated so you have kids running in front of you on your approach and a bunch of other crap. Lelani was cool, my grandparents lived right across the street, so I bowled there when I was younger. Robin Hood is my favorite now, and Glacier isn’t bad either.

Glacier Lanes.
It’s up in South Everett on Hwy 99. Kind of a smaller alley, pretty “old school”. I like it okay, but it tends to be more oily than Robin Hood.

It's close to home, so I run up there occasionally to throw a game or three.

A few others...
1979: George Brett walks off with a HR against Byron McLaughlin in the bottom of the 11th. The win keeps the Royals’ playoff hopes alive, but they would end up missing the playoffs anyway.
1985: Lee Gutterman collects his 10th win of 1985, Mariners pitchers hold Brett and former Mariner Danny Tartabull hitless in the game where Phil Bradley goes 3-4 with 2 RBI as the Mariners eliminate the Royals from playoff contention with a 5-1 victory.

Johnson still allowed 4 runs in that game. How about this?
Johnson strikes out 10 in 7 innings against the Royals, but gives up four runs. Jay Buhner puts the Mariners ahead with a 3-run homer in the 5th to make the score 6-4. Johnson would not give up a run after the third inning of play.
In fact, Johnson would not give up another run until June 10 in a game against the Rockies. His 32-inning scoreless streak would be the longest in his MLB career (barring something crazy this year).

That's on my list, but that's not the one I found.
July 28, 1998.
Randy Johnson makes what would be his last start as a Mariner, striking out 12 Cleveland Indians, and giving up just 4 hits in a complete game effort. David Bell would hit a home run in the 8th innings, however, that would put the Indians up for good, 4-3. Johnson would be traded to the Astros soon after, and David Bell would become a Mariner on August 31 in a trade for fan-favorite Joey Cora.

Felix Fermin is like HoRam to me
He wasn’t very good, and he was acquired in exchange for one of my favorite players.

On the other hand, the M's did have a kid in the minors
who was going to be a pretty good shortstop. I think his name was Rodriguez.
Sure, the timing was a year early and the M’s should have gotten better value (maybe plugging the LF hole that the Mariners always had before the coming of Randy Winn), but you can hardly argue with the idea of moving Little O to make room for A-Rod.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Aug 15, 2008 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions
They traded him when A-Rod was 18
there’s no way you could project that a HS draftee would be big league ready in 1-2 years, and even if so, that’s 1-2 years before Vizquel would have been really blocking A-Rod anyway

Rodriguez was a September call-up in 1994.
And was brought up in May of ’95 before his ’96 season when he finished 2nd in the MVP voting. I think they had a decent guess that he was going to be good.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Aug 15, 2008 12:26 PM PDT up reply actions
Except he was not September call-up in 1994
There WAS no September of ‘94 due to the players’ strike. He played in July of ’94.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Aug 15, 2008 12:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah but he's really not a typical player - he wasn't particularly ready for the show in '94 or '95
which means you would have had two years before you really had to worry about it anyway – and that would have been being super optimistic

I didn't know this before today, but I looked it up and had to take a step back:
Rodriguez played at A, AA, and AAA levels in 1994, hitting .311/.354/.588 at Calgary in 119 ABs.
He also hit .360/.409/.654 next year when the M’s moved their AAA affiliate to Tacoma (54 G, 218 AB).
Wow.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Aug 15, 2008 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions
OK, he was pretty good
really good, a once in a lifetime talent
Still though, Vizquel was traded before the 1994 season and there was no way to predict that even a player as talented as A-Rod would be ready that quickly

That's true that you can't just assume that Rodriguez will
suddenly have an MVP-level season in just his third year of pro ball. That’s insane. But Jesus Christ he was good.

The next time you see the footage of Edgars famous double.
Check out who’s standing in the on deck circle.
Yeah, he was the first guy to mob Griffey at the plate.
When I notice it — which isn’t always, though I know it’s there — it always strikes me as a little weird.
He was also the one consoling a crying Joey Cora when they played Cleveland.

So I email the secretary in our Bellevue office, and let her know an envelope full of checks that was missing came in today's mail.
Here is the response:
“Wonderful. I will let my agents know. We should let the tenants we notified know that their checks showed up. Will you let some of the property managers know. Thanks I will let my agents know”
WTF am I supposed to do with that?!?

Yeah, just randomly picking a few out of the 20+ should be fine.
Good lord.

Just find anyone that manages property (for anyone)
and let them know. I’m sure they all talk amongst themselves anyway.
I'll randomly call up Windermere or CDC Management and let them know right away.

Let the property managers know

I think "done been told" might also be acceptable.

I'm becoming (more of) a wuss in my old age
About a month ago, a friend and I hatched this great plan – we were going to ride our bikes from Portland to Keizer to take in a Salem-Keizer Volcanoes game, our wives would meet us down there and we’d throw the bikes on the rack and drive home. We identified Aug 16 as the date that would work best for all of us, so we penciled it in.
But, it’s supposed to be 104 degrees tomorrow. Now, 10 years ago, this wouldn’t have bothered me, but the thought of riding nearly 50 miles through the valley in 104 degree heat just doesn’t thrill me, so we’re going to the beach and having a bbq instead.
What I can’t decide is if I should be feeling guilty about this.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Definitely not.
Yesterday I rode my bike and did some sprints. The sweat was POURING off of me for about 45 minutes after I got home. And my workout was less than an hour long.

I rode yesterday morning and that was enough.
Didn’t do sprints, but I did hills. I made sure to be in by 11.30, and I had the same experience – I didn’t stop sweating for an hour. Unpleasant.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Guilt is for, uh, nevermind that is religion
Seriously, that just might be a bit dangerous. Do us all a favor and keep yourself healthy.
And that's what swung the pendulum to not going.
Not so much the incessant sweat and discomfort, but the prospect of heat exhaustion, cramping, and death. Not what I’m looking for in a workout.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

It seems like OJ would have found the real killers by now
last year at the Coliseum, we saw a guy wearing a custom usc jersey with “Goldman” on the back.
A. usc doesn’t wear their names on their jerseys
B. Not sure Ron Goldman is a fan

My older brother got heat stroke when we were kids
We were at a music festival and he did not stay hydrated. Ever since he gets sick really easy in hot weather. Your body is never the same after it happens once.
I used to play tennis as a kid in the Yakima summer leagues.
Anyone who knows Yakima knows it gets blazing hot in the summer, and anyone who knows tennis knows those courts pretty much double the heat. I used to play with ice cubes tucked in my wrist bands, but every tournament, you’d see kids dropping like flies.

Yankees waive Sexson
I kinda feel bad for the guy
Sexson was brought in with the idea of giving the Yankees a better attack against lefty pitching. But the dramatic holes in the first baseman’s swing made him too easy an out.
I bet he would be a cool guy to drink beer and shoot pool with, but I just don’t want him on my baseball team. Wonder how he’d be as a color guy… replace Blowers? I think he’s probably done as a player.
From mlbtr:
Sexson received 35 plate appearances from the Yankees, hitting .250/.371/.393. He did what he was supposed to do, hitting .273/.393/.455 against lefties.

The Hunt for Red October looks great on Blu-Ray.
Also, James Earl Jones is awesome.
The most exciting athlete of these games has to be US swimmer Michael Phelps. Not only has he broken 26 world records and won 6 Olympic gold medals, he's also found time to play Jim on The Office and lead the Giants to a Superbowl victory.

I like the college football system.
I’d like to see them move the starting point from the 25 back to the 35 or the 40 so you’re not automatically in field goal range, but overall I think it’s far better than sudden death.
That's some beer-league softball shit right there.
Trying to just end the game so the next two teams can get onto the field.

And he takes a shot at Clemens in the process:
