PrintFor insomniac Lookout Landing readers who are either optimistic or pessimistic about the Mariners' future:
Stephen Strasburg was pitching for team USA versus the Netherlands earlier today.
He's the lone college player on the US national team.
Matthew Brown is an infielder on the team who is from Bellevue and plays for Salt Lake City. He hit a solo homerun in the 2nd inning.
There are no players from the Mariners organization on the team.
His final line: 7 IP 1 H 1 BB 11 K
Update: The game was called on account of rain in the 9th inning with the USA leading 7-0 and the Netherlands having the bases loaded with no outs. None of this involves Strasburg but it's still an odd way to end a game.

That was interesting.
Making a hitter fall on his ass on a pitch inside…and not because it nearly hit him.
I used to think there were two pitchers I would want in the draft next year, but Strasburg is clearly ahead in my head now.
It would be entertaining to have somebody on our team named Matthew Graham

His breaking pitches need more work...
But he has an awesome fastball with a ton of movement. Throws in the mid 90s or so.
I just love his upside, so I was content with him should we not land #1 in the draft. I never really thought he was as good as Strasburg, especially with Strasburg in college dominating so much…but I wasnt freaking out over getting the 1st pick, either. Thats changed now.
I like the dude from North Carolina, too. And I usually hate all Tar Heels.
I think you sold me.
I guess he’d be a good back up if we don’t make the #1 pick. But I can’t get the idea of a Felix-Strasburg-Morrow-RRS-Yuck rotation out of my head.

The most entertaining part of the game so far was watching Terry Tiffey lumber around the bases.
Watching Strasburg has been like watching Felix pitch.
Its almost I just want the US half inning to be over just to watch Strasburg dominate.

Well, I hope Bedard does well too...
but I’ll always be an Adam Jones fan. Because of the disrespect he got when he was with the Mariners organization, and because I’ve watched him develop over the last few years.
I think now people are starting to recognize how valuable he actually was.
At least my brother who is a casual (Marlins) fan now notices.
