A spiced up turkey or chicken burger can be good, but

it won’t taste like beef. If anyone plans on stalking RRS in the off-season (or goes to Australia for another reason), try a kangaroo burger when you are there. In fact, try a crocodile and emu burger while you’re at it. They are all delicious animals.

You can get this meat in the Seattle area

There’s an exotic meats store in Overlake (between Bellevue and Redmond) that sells all of these—or at least I know they have croc and emu, not sure about Kangaroo. It’s pretty exciting stuff.

Sure it’d be fresher in the Outback, but still a unique flavor here in the states.

Not as long a list as I'd have thought...

Phelps and Woods: I’m not sure about. It’d be cool to say you saw them, but I’m not sure that I’ll ever be excited enough about their respective sports to want to see them live. I get bored enough watching on TV, when I have a good view of the action.

I would (and will – thank God he went to a team that’s still coming to Seattle this year) pay to see Brett Favre. Since I hate the Jets (sans him) and refuse to cheer for the Seahawks since I can’t stand bandwagoners and will not become one myself, I can safely say he is the sole reason I’ll be going to that game.

In baseball, I don’t know if there’s anyone out there that I would consider a unique draw right now. Has Ichiro spoiled me? There are players I’d love to see, but I’m not sure I’d look back on my life and regret not having seen them in their prime.

Federer/Nadal I could probably watch and appreciate. Same goes for Walsh and May-Treanor (the most dominant women’s volleyball team ever)

But somehow I’m not. I'm getting a little concerned about the way the Americans are shooting - these guys are a bunch of above average shooters

so there’s really no reason they should be 12-45 from 3 after two games

The ♥ Jose Lopez ♥ Watch - 146 H, 16 BB, 44 G Left

by seattlebruin on Aug 12, 2008 8:27 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

You should be more than a little concerned.

This team is not built for international play, as much as the US media wants to say it’s the “Redeem Team”. I am very worried about their shooting. The US seems to make shots when the game is out of reach, but damn China kept it close for too long.

If the USA’s pressure defense is not working, we’re toast. The good part about that is that defense is something that doesn’t slump like shooting. The bad part about that is that defense requires effort, which the Americans aren’t exactly great at.

by brayden04 on Aug 12, 2008 8:33 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think CP3 needs more playing time

The thing I’m seeing right, especially with J-Kidd is that the team is great in the open floor as a result of the pressure defense… but in the half court, they really don’t have a true distributor – all of these guys (besides CP3 and J-Kidd) are the primary scoring guards on their teams, and they’re not real great at figuring out how to work as a team. Yeah, it’s nice to see that the effort is there to try and be a team, but besides CP3 there really isn’t anyone who can make the offense work in a half-court set unless they try to iso someone on every play, which doesn’t exactly work in international ball.

The ♥ Jose Lopez ♥ Watch - 146 H, 16 BB, 44 G Left

by seattlebruin on Aug 12, 2008 8:36 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah,

I don’t know if you could change much but changing the players. The biggest problem is the mindset. Like you pointed out, Iso doesn’t work well in international ball cause help defense is swarming. When you watch the really great international teams, either national or Euro League teams, you seen amazing passing. The biggest difference is that in America, we’re taught to get the ball inside and then kick it out when the big man is double teamed. In international ball, it’s all about driving and kicking to open shooters. Unfortunately, we don’t have great shooters. We have Micheal Redd, but that’s it. Nobody else on our team is a great spot-up shooter, cause there just aren’t a lot of spot-up shots in the NBA.

by brayden04 on Aug 12, 2008 8:40 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think that Melo and Kobe could both be passable spot-up guys

and that the bigger problem is that like you said, they’re stuck in the “play inside-out” basketball mindset of the NBA. I really think that the PG situation is a bigger problem than the actual shooters, and I really don’t like Kidd for this team – he’s just not the same player he was even two years ago.

Greece is going to be a HUGE test for them I think – they’ll have the same type of situations on offense in which they’ll generate points in transition, but they’re going to have to make some shots. We’ll see how the defense holds up – I’m not sold on Kidd or CP3 against the Greeks with that screen and roll that they run on virtually every possession – I kind of like Deron at the one against them to match up with that big lefty (Papaloukis? I think) that they use to run the offense.

The ♥ Jose Lopez ♥ Watch - 146 H, 16 BB, 44 G Left

by seattlebruin on Aug 12, 2008 8:47 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Greece will be interesting

because they will slow the game down and try to wear down the Americans. SLowing the game is much easier than speeding up the game, and the Americans need a fast tempo to be successful. Nobody can hang with out athletes as long as we keep the tempo high.

A bigger test I think will be Spain. Spain is my favorite to win the Gold. Playing a team with as many shooters as Spain has would suck balls.

In regards to the 3 pt shooting I'm just kind of weirded out that these guys (especially Kobe and Melo) are having trouble

given that Melo’s money jumper is right at the international 3-pt line, and Kobe is just an elite shooter, period. I kind of think the ball might be throwing them off a little bit – is there a significant difference between the international standard ball and the ones the NBA is using?

The ♥ Jose Lopez ♥ Watch - 146 H, 16 BB, 44 G Left

by seattlebruin on Aug 12, 2008 8:38 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

There is a significant difference, at least to me.

I’ve played with both, and although they are supposed to be the same size and weight, I would swear on it that the international ball is lighter. That thing feels like it flies out of your hands. Plus the grooves on the ball are a lot deeper than a typical NBA ball.

by brayden04 on Aug 12, 2008 8:42 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I really am starting to think that the ball could be at least part of the problem

I think the Tesla is going to be bigger.

Can you imagine games powered by a Tesla card? I’m hoping the big three of the console world look at this when they design their next systems. 1080p? No problem. 1080p x 4 screens, full time physx rendering? No problem. The only problem I can see is pretty soon people are going to have to upgrade their broadband to deal with online play.

Physx is cool, but it’s not going to be that big just because games will want to support both cards fully, and ATI won’t be able to push it.

I think if AMD wasn't so afraid of not making things backwards-compatible,

they could change the game by making whole 64 bit systems, right down to a standards based 64 bit CPU/GPU bus. AMD is in a great position to build the next 8088 from scratch, but they won’t bite.

No other manufacturer is in the position to make whole systems internally, since Apple ditched their stake in Motorola way back when.

Because he's a true freak talent

he has incredible vision as a runner, is blazingly fast and is nearly Sanders-esque in his ability to cut back against the grain and will his way through holes in the D. Only problem is that there’s only one Barry Sanders, so being almost Barry Sanders doesn’t really cut it. He’s also a very versatile player and will excel any time you can get him the ball in space and let him go 1 on 1 against a defender

Mostly because even the worst male gymnast is strong enough to snap you in half without breaking a sweat. Especially the dudes that do the rings. I don’t get the point of why they do it (who thought up “rings” as a sport?), but damn that’s impressive to watch.

was Billy Bragg and the Disposable Heroes at the Moore in something like 1989/1990. Both acts were of course awesome, and then there was the encore – the Disposable Heroes backing Billy Bragg singing “Groove Is In The Heart”.
