7/6 Minor League Wrap-Up

It's late, but here you go. Long on numbers, short on description. Gotta go.

On to the wrap-up!

Star-divide

VENEZUELA~! The VSLMs and the VSL always take Sunday off. ¡MUY CALIENTE! and ¡QUE LASTIMA! will have to wait... though it must be noted that none of the hitters at first sight had breakout weeks, but Gerardo Esparza (9 GS +1, 1.07 ERA, 50.2 IP, 1 HR, 15/41 BB/K)

Dominican: DSL Mariners 11, DSL Phillies 9
DSLMs: 21-8... DSL Phillies: 9-18
(League: 233/337/319... 3.70 ERA)

Ambioris Hidalgo: 1.2 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 2 walks, 3 K, wild pitch, hit batter (5 GS +3, 5.87 ERA, 23 IP, 4 HR, 11/22 BB/K)
Fello Yan: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 3 K (8 app, 5.40 ERA, 11.2 IP, 9/7 BB/K)
Enrique Rosario: 5 IP, 5 H, (2 R) 1 ER, walk, 6 K, wild pitch (6 app, 2.25 ERA, 16 IP, 4/21 BB/K)
Hector Mercedes: 1-2, R, RBI, K (294/405/485)
Mario Flores: 3-4, double, GRAND SLAM, 2 R, 7 RBI (338/470/554)
Axel Wel: pinch RBI double (259/333/296)
Janelfry Zorrilla: 1-4, double, walk, 2 K (151/207/226)
Oliver Garcia: 0-3, sac fly RBI, K
Rey Lebron: 2-4, 2 R, K (255/340/255)

Ambioris Hidalgo got bombed and chased in the 2nd inning, but never fear, as the DSLMs, down 9-2 in the 7th, launched the epic comeback with multiple singles capped by a Hector Mercedes RBI single and then a Mario Flores GRAND SLAM that cut the lead to 9-7.

In the 8th, the DSLMs again loaded the bases from Mario Flores, who then cleared the bases with a double to give the DSLMs a 10-9 lead! In a league with no power like the DSL, 9-2 should be an insurmountable lead, so Mario Flores' two blasts were especially destructive and backbreaking. Axel Wel pinch hit for Rudy van Heydoorn, and blasted a double to right, only his 2nd XBH of the season (54 AB), to cash in pinch runner Bertin Sanon and make it 11-9.

Lost in this was a terrific long relief effort by Enrique Rosario that allowed the DSLMs to stage this comeback in the first place.

Rk-AZL: The AZLMs had Sunday off.

Rk+: They played two in Pulaski!

Game 1: Pulaski 5, Princeton 4, 7 innings

Brooks Mohr: 3 IP, 2 H, (4 R) 0 ER, 3 walks, 3 K, hit batter
Philip Roy: 2 IP, K (6 app, 0 ER, 11.1 IP, 3/11 BB/K)
Jeff Dunbar: 2 IP, 3 K
Mario Martinez: 2-3
Kalian Sams: 1-3, 2 run HR, K
Kris Sanchez: 2-2, double, RBI, walk
Blake Trinkler: 1-3, 2 run HR

The P-Rays took advantage of a Mario Martinez fielding error and wildness from Brooks Mohr to spark a 4 run 3rd and seize a 4-1 lead. Burt Reynolds got Mohr to walk him with the bases loaded to force in a run, Eli Sonoqui knocked home two runs with a lined single, and Mayobanez Acosta singled to bring in Stroker Ace.

But Kalian Sams homered in the 4th with a man on to slice the lead to 4-3 as Philip Roy bailed out Mohr with strong middle relief, and Jeff Dunbar locked down the last two frames. Blake Trinkler jacked a 2 run shot himself in the 6th to give the PMs the lead for good.

(Circumstances now demand I move quickly. Lines only from here on.)

Tacoma shoulda won that game

They were up 3-0 in the bottom of the 9th and lost 4-3. Not only that, but on the final play, with runners on 1st and 3rd, Hulett had a ball hit his way, and his throw to first was late, and then Garrett’s throw from 1B to the plate was late as well, and Portland won. Annoying.

Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

Too bad I was short on time

because I saw that and was shocked at such a total 9th inning meltdown. Looked like Mumba got bombed.
