LL Softball Pictures

It was a great day in the sun even if The Rays beat Team Awesome twice.  I have posted my pictures on photobucket.

http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/Jeanuts/LL%20softball/

If it asks for a password the password is softball.  I don't think it will, but I am not super computer savvy - so forgive me.  The teenagers are not home this weekend to ask for advice.

Anyway - Thank you to everyone who showed up.  It was a lot of fun!

Gomez Addendum:  The pics from my camera are posted as well!  Go check them out.  Jeanuts' camera is terrific, while mine has its moments but like Willie is often known more for its 'grittiness,' so pardon the quality on some shots.

Also, I met some of you but I don't know/remember all your names, so if you see any photos of yourself that I haven't labeled, drop a line and let me know who's who.

And it was fun!  I'm all for doing this again in another few weeks.

Great pics!

I see that you got one of me popping up, but not one of my homer. That’s the story of my life!

Thanks for uploading those!

That was my fault

I took quite a few pics with her camera from behind the plate. I did my best with action shots but sometimes I lacked timing.

Home runs can be addictive.

You try it once then you’re hooked.

AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...

by Thingray on Jul 7, 2008 11:39 AM PDT up reply actions

That's my excuse then.

I hit groundballs because I know if I ever hit a funk blast, I’ll be addicted to them.
BTW, anyone else feel like they got hit by a truck? I can run 20 miles and not be sore, but apparently 2.5 hours or so of softball, and I feel like I’ve gone 10 rounds in a boxing match.

by LantermanC on Jul 7, 2008 11:53 AM PDT up reply actions

My feet are a little sore, that was a pretty hard infield.

But otherwise I’m fine. Then again, I do play league softball, so I’m kind of used to it. Two games are nothing compared to five-a-days during tournaments.

by Thingray on Jul 7, 2008 12:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm a touch sore from the fungo after the game.

I actually do box about 3 times a week, and the muscles seem to be fairly similar because most of what is sore is my hands.

I got, and tore open, three huge blisters on my hands after hitting so many balls.

by Smegmalicious on Jul 7, 2008 2:16 PM PDT up reply actions

What I really need is to toughen up my damned hands

Thanks for the compliment, I think that your contribution was far more meaningful. Not only having a good glove but the work as a cutoff man is invaluable.

Without a good cutoff man, we’re doomed.

by Smegmalicious on Jul 7, 2008 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions

You get used to taking the cut when you play a lot of co-ed.

In men’s league most guys try to throw it all the way home, all the time. And you could always ask Moises Alou about how to to toughen up your hands, but no high fives if you take his advice.

Woo I robbed Matthew of an opposite field gap double/triple and had an outfield assist.

I don’t care that I only hit the ball hard like four times, I had a great time.

So are we gonna play again next week?

In the fifth inning

If I grounded out to 3rd but there was an error by the 3rd baseman, then I should be 5-6 not 5-5. You can keep it at 5-5 if you want though.
I also like how the one time I didn’t hit a groundball to ss or 3b, it was a “groundball to left”.

by Thingray on Jul 7, 2008 1:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Truth to tell,

in my league I hit leadoff and play LF (I’ve played SS before though). I’m a singles/walks machine mostly. It was nice to be out of the leadoff spot and be able to unleash the beast a bit. We also play with deeper fences and four outfielders, so XB hits are tougher to come by.

AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...

by Thingray on Jul 7, 2008 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

The field we were on grossly over rewarded uppercut swings.

If you could just get under the ball a little, it was going to the fence. Unfortunately if you get under it a lot, it’s a pop up, but that’s the nature of the beast. I think we all had a good time with the fences like they were.

Tough to do in a 5 inning softball game

Especially considering the disparate level of play and other circumstances… but I will say that team Rays was probably around 100% by the 4th.

by Gomez on Jul 7, 2008 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I was just looking at it at a superficial level

if we scored 24 runs in 5 full innings of play, then we would expect each team to score 2.4 runs/inning at bat, so the three runs scored in the top of the first were just a slight advantage over the expected runs scored.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 7, 2008 2:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Ooh, LL Softball run expectancy!

We could totally fumble together a chart with enough of a sample size.

Maybe my non-crippled ass should keep logs of ALL our games.

by Gomez on Jul 7, 2008 2:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Your homer should be acknowledged.

I think it probably went the farthest of any hit. It was a no-doubter.

AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...

by Thingray on Jul 7, 2008 2:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, the short fences worked well for a bit of an uppercut.

I think that’s part of what made it fun. Pretty much everyone at least has some chance of getting one to the fence. I’ve played on fields where the fences are 290 feet out and 10 foot high. I don’t even try to hit one out on those fields. I just no the chances of me hitting a softball that far are about 3%.

That's also what happened with the softball that ended up in the garage.

It just kept carrying.

Baseball is a funny game. Sometimes you feel like you hit it a ton and it pops up or goes right at someone, then other times you think you just put a good swing on it and it flies forever. Who knows why.

I dunno...

After Thingray’s amazing play (I think he made like 7 amazing catches) at ss, the two best fielders were probably Matthew in center and Brett in center.
You can play 2b for me, and I’ll DH, that way I’ll be Jose Vidro due to my knack for hitting infield singles.
