LL Softball Pictures
It was a great day in the sun even if The Rays beat Team Awesome twice. I have posted my pictures on photobucket.
http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b114/Jeanuts/LL%20softball/
If it asks for a password the password is softball. I don't think it will, but I am not super computer savvy - so forgive me. The teenagers are not home this weekend to ask for advice.
Anyway - Thank you to everyone who showed up. It was a lot of fun!
Gomez Addendum: The pics from my camera are posted as well! Go check them out. Jeanuts' camera is terrific, while mine has its moments but like Willie is often known more for its 'grittiness,' so pardon the quality on some shots.
Also, I met some of you but I don't know/remember all your names, so if you see any photos of yourself that I haven't labeled, drop a line and let me know who's who.
And it was fun! I'm all for doing this again in another few weeks.

Great pics!
I see that you got one of me popping up, but not one of my homer. That’s the story of my life!
Thanks for uploading those!
That was my fault
I took quite a few pics with her camera from behind the plate. I did my best with action shots but sometimes I lacked timing.
I think it's more my fault for trying to hit home runs every at bat.

Home runs can be addictive.
You try it once then you’re hooked.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
That's my excuse then.
I hit groundballs because I know if I ever hit a funk blast, I’ll be addicted to them.
BTW, anyone else feel like they got hit by a truck? I can run 20 miles and not be sore, but apparently 2.5 hours or so of softball, and I feel like I’ve gone 10 rounds in a boxing match.
my legs and non-throwing elbow are a little sore
but I also did my janitorial shift last night

My feet are a little sore, that was a pretty hard infield.
But otherwise I’m fine. Then again, I do play league softball, so I’m kind of used to it. Two games are nothing compared to five-a-days during tournaments.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I'm a touch sore from the fungo after the game.
I actually do box about 3 times a week, and the muscles seem to be fairly similar because most of what is sore is my hands.
I got, and tore open, three huge blisters on my hands after hitting so many balls.

We need to get you some batting gloves if you're going to keep that up.
Great D at 3rd BTW.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
What I really need is to toughen up my damned hands
Thanks for the compliment, I think that your contribution was far more meaningful. Not only having a good glove but the work as a cutoff man is invaluable.
Without a good cutoff man, we’re doomed.
by Smegmalicious on Jul 7, 2008 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions
You get used to taking the cut when you play a lot of co-ed.
In men’s league most guys try to throw it all the way home, all the time. And you could always ask Moises Alou about how to to toughen up your hands, but no high fives if you take his advice.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
i think I'll stick with the Rocky Marciano method
Soaking them in brine seems way more fun than urine.

I can think of all sorts of innappropriate comments to make here.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Thanks Gomez!
For taking all the pictures. They are really great!!!
The rose goes in front.
Woo I robbed Matthew of an opposite field gap double/triple and had an outfield assist.
I don’t care that I only hit the ball hard like four times, I had a great time.
So are we gonna play again next week?

A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.
Intriguing....
If my ankle’s feeling better enough to play, I’m down… though, obviously, I’d be there either way.
There were a lot of nice catches in the outfield,
especially on balls right at the fence in the gap.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Damn, I wish I got video/pics of your catch in that 2nd game
For the uninitiated, Thingray made a great backtracking leaping catch from SS of a blooper into left.
Yeah, that's absolutely as high as I can jump.
I felt it hit my glove and was just praying it stayed there!
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
And your leaping rob of one of my few hard hit balls headed for the gap >:(

Sorry.
It’s nothing personal.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I can understand that.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I do need two requests answered before I post it, and these are for anyone who can answer
- What was the name of the guy in the red hat?
- Refresh my memory on the name of Graham’s friend.
Also, did you get any pictures/video on my camera?
if so, I’m going to have to look for the connector.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 7, 2008 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions
I took some but didn't get anything of note
Given limited drive space, I only took video of key moments, like your attempts to hit for the cycle. Didn’t get any big plays, though.
I think his name was Brian,
but don’t quote me on that.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Just confirmed with Jeanuts,
guy in the Wii shirt’s name was Jason, not Brian. Sorry Jason!
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I told you not to quote me. :)
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
And Jeanuts is going to check on the name of the guy in the red hat. She has the scorebook in her car.
It just might be a while, since she’s at work right now.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
The man in the red hat was Isaac according to the score book.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Yes, Wii shirt = Jason, red had = Isaac
They both came with me.
The guy in the red hat is..........
Isaac. Confirmed by the book!
The rose goes in front.
Didn't he make himself run a lap after he popped out?
Or was he running around outside the fence for some other reason?
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
In the fifth inning
If I grounded out to 3rd but there was an error by the 3rd baseman, then I should be 5-6 not 5-5. You can keep it at 5-5 if you want though.
I also like how the one time I didn’t hit a groundball to ss or 3b, it was a “groundball to left”.
It got through the hole, so it wasn't to 3rd or SS.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Great pics Gomez! I had a blast.
Not sure I can make it down from Everett for every event, but I’m definitely glad I made it to this one!

I just had a three day weekend, and all I wanted to do was stay home from work again today.

Power-hitting SS.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Truth to tell,
in my league I hit leadoff and play LF (I’ve played SS before though). I’m a singles/walks machine mostly. It was nice to be out of the leadoff spot and be able to unleash the beast a bit. We also play with deeper fences and four outfielders, so XB hits are tougher to come by.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
The field we were on grossly over rewarded uppercut swings.
If you could just get under the ball a little, it was going to the fence. Unfortunately if you get under it a lot, it’s a pop up, but that’s the nature of the beast. I think we all had a good time with the fences like they were.

Tough to do in a 5 inning softball game
Especially considering the disparate level of play and other circumstances… but I will say that team Rays was probably around 100% by the 4th.
I was just looking at it at a superficial level
if we scored 24 runs in 5 full innings of play, then we would expect each team to score 2.4 runs/inning at bat, so the three runs scored in the top of the first were just a slight advantage over the expected runs scored.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 7, 2008 2:34 PM PDT up reply actions
Ooh, LL Softball run expectancy!
We could totally fumble together a chart with enough of a sample size.
Maybe my non-crippled ass should keep logs of ALL our games.
Your homer should be acknowledged.
I think it probably went the farthest of any hit. It was a no-doubter.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
Yeah, the short fences worked well for a bit of an uppercut.
I think that’s part of what made it fun. Pretty much everyone at least has some chance of getting one to the fence. I’ve played on fields where the fences are 290 feet out and 10 foot high. I don’t even try to hit one out on those fields. I just no the chances of me hitting a softball that far are about 3%.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
That s/b "know the chances".
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I just want to mention
That I have not picked up a bat for 2 years, so I was pretty happy with my first hit being a little blooper over 3rd base in the first game. I am really glad Matthew showed up because there was no way I could have played the second game. I totally had a blast!
The rose goes in front.
Not to be a suck-up, but thanks for keeping score in the second game.

That's also what happened with the softball that ended up in the garage.
It just kept carrying.
Baseball is a funny game. Sometimes you feel like you hit it a ton and it pops up or goes right at someone, then other times you think you just put a good swing on it and it flies forever. Who knows why.

Aww man you had the good field and stats and everything?
I kinda regret going to the 15-inning game that day. Ok you have to do this again. I’ve got dibs on CF.

We had to jump the fence to use it, but we had a good field, Gomez kept the play-by-play because his ankle was hurt,
and Jeanuts kept score during the actual game. It was seven on seven, turned out to be pretty fun!!
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I dunno...
After Thingray’s amazing play (I think he made like 7 amazing catches) at ss, the two best fielders were probably Matthew in center and Brett in center.
You can play 2b for me, and I’ll DH, that way I’ll be Jose Vidro due to my knack for hitting infield singles.
Thanks for the credit, but I only had the one leaping catch, and the one I kind of dove for.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
No way, in the first game I know I had a line drive
and you just jumped up and robbed me. I think you robbed Chad and Brett each 2x with sportscenter like plays as well.
I leaped for one in the second game and caught it.
and in the first game I had one I dove to my right for, and one I kind of jumped to my right for. Those are the only ones that stick out in my mind.
Besides, I watched sportcenter that night and I didn’t even see one highlight of us.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
I can play RF. I'm happier there.
Boosts clubhouse chemistry.
Don't pretend you're not pulling an Ichiro here..

I just picked CF more because of my lack of any throwing strength and low-to-middling hitting power.
