Sabathia --> Brewers

LaPorta + two other prospects, Alcides Escobar not among them.

More as I get it.

Ditto. Make a run for it this year and at worst

you’re looking at a pair of draft picks to recover your losses. You wont get a LaPorta back, but then he never really fit too well there in the first place.

Speaking of a Brewer,

If Bedard does get traded, I wouldn’t be opposed to the M’s going after Ben Sheets this offseason. He comes across as a slightly less awesome, but slightly more reliable Bedard.

by CstSnow on Jul 6, 2008 5:00 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

That plus Morrow in the Rotation would make almost every game must see.

I say almost because Silva will still be here and he will still be fat…

by CstSnow on Jul 6, 2008 6:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Washburn will likely be traded to the NL,

and Tits will be in the pen next year if we get another SP.

Felix
Bedard
Sheets
Silva
Morrow/RRS/Dickey.

We HOPE Washburn will be traded.

Tits is a very expensive middle reliever and Dickey likely won’t be back if we don’t sign him before free agency.

by Wilder. on Jul 6, 2008 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think that we will be able to find a home for Wash.

An ~average LH starter looks pretty good for some NL teams.

Tits is expensive but he’ll hurt us more in the rotation than the pen.

My dream is Yuni/Washburn to the Dodgers for one of their good young guys.

My thoughts exactly.

I still don’t think they’re as good as the Cubs, but this puts them right there in the mix for a wild card spot.

Sabathia is gonna be the new Micah Owings

if he hits the way he has in his career…

And Micah hasn't exactly hit extremely well this year

and his pitching has sucked ass. In fact, he might be in danger of losing his spot in the rotation if he keeps it up.

well shit

I really hoping the M’s could cash in on some of the Brewers tasty prospects. Also, I’m a bit surprised at the package – only one top shelf minor leaguer? Seems cheap for a midseason move to get a killer arm.

Not to sound like a dick but
The rumors surrounding Sabathia and the Brewers sound awfully weak, since Milwaukee is not currently willing to send two of their top six prospects to Cleveland for a rental player they would have no chance in re-signing.

Heh

by Robert on Jul 6, 2008 7:20 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

However, right below that:
C.C. Sabathia Prediction: – Unless the Brewers change their stance, Sabathia will land in the Bronx or stay with Cleveland.

If Milwaukee caves, at least somewhat, Cleveland would probably much prefer to send him to the National League, regardless of the fact that there is a good chance he signs with AL club in 2009, as long as the return is somewhat equal.

So the Brewers changed their stance.

?

Isn’t it more like Cleveland changed their stance? They only got one of the good prospects, not two.

by batura on Jul 6, 2008 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

The early reports look like Cleveland decided one top shelf prospect was enough, but I guess even if they’re not giving up Escobar or Gamel, the Brewers could still be giving up another one of their big six.

I'm okay with this

I was afraid that we’d trade Bedard for LaPorta, and I’m not sure if his power would translate well to Safeco.

In other news, Yankee Stadium is the biggest pos stadium in the world.

I want to make some witty zombie pun about brains or something

but I’m so worn down from traveling. Hartford is an ugly town and since mid-last week I’ve easily been walking 100+ blocks a day. I welcome death.

by katal on Jul 6, 2008 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fun fact: the town put on fireworks on July 5th because it's cheaper

to do so on that day than on July 4th.
The town’s only library closed for good on July 3rd.
Their bus drivers don’t know directions.
Their opera house is ridiculously run down.
Their Mexican restaurant serves tortilla chips that were clearly purchased from the grocery store.
and I could go on.

I'm wearing my Rays shirt right now

and I have actually gotten a lot of compliments. So far Sox fans have not been that bad. I will see if that changes tomorrow when I visit Fenway.

I lived there for about 6 years, but I moved in 2001 so some of this may be old.

The Middle East in Central Square in Cambridge is a good place. Three stages, one is free. Jake’s Boss BBQ in Jamaica Plain is delicious. If you like sushi, try Ginza in China Town or in Brookline. China Town is better, but less fancy and in a worse neighborhood. There is a good burger place on Mass Ave a few blocks towards Boston from Harvard Square – I think it is called Mrs. T’s. If you like falaffel, there is a good place in Central Square in an small old building that looks like a white castle. I can’t remember the name, but it was good.

If you like Italian food go to the north end – you really can’t go wrong there. Bova’s makes a proscuitto/mozz/basil sandwich that is fantastic – everything is homemade. Mike’s Pastry in the North End is wonderful and should not be missed.

If you want history/tourist stuff and haven’t been there before, do the Freedom Trail. It is cliche, but you do get to see a ton of cool things like Paul Revere’s house, etc.

Baseball wise, definitely go to Fenway. If you can’t get tickets, go hang around before a day game. The atmosphere is very different than Safeco and worth the experience. Plus, it is a short walk to the Museum of Fine Arts if you like that kind of thing. Many of the clubs are on Landsdowne street right behind the stadium too. When you go to Fenway on the T, get off at the Kenmore stop, not the Fenway stop. Kenmore is closer to the ballpark.

Don’t waste time on Newberry street unless you like really expensive clothes or like watching rich women buy said clothes. Harvard Square has been turned into a tourist haven with stores like Urban Outfitters. The Tasty or the “how do you like those apples” restaurant from Good Will Hunting has been shut down. You can see rich kids pretending to be poor and begging for cigs and loose change there and if you’re lucky you could see a professor with a pipe and a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches hanging around.

That Mexican restaurant is an embarrassment to Mexico.

When On The Border is the best Mexican food in town (“town” being Rocky Hill”) you know you’re in trouble.

My best friend and I lived in San Antonio for a while

They closed their On The Border.

I like that Seattle has some pretty decent Mexican options.

I drove to Boston rather than eat at the Mexican restaurant in Hartford.

Seattle’s is OK but having family in Tucson has really ruined me for NW Mexican food.

Piolin was a pretty good place for Peruvian

(which I realize is different, but you take what you can get.)

by Jeff on Jul 6, 2008 9:14 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was good.

There was a Puerto Rican deli in my neighborhood that did good sandwiches, and a Jamaican place in a strip mall that did really good food. Other than that, I stayed away from non-Italian ethnic food in Hartford.

I'm pretty much right there with you on that

I lived pretty much right around the corner from the Half Door, and I probably spent three or four nights there every single week I lived there.

I tried to love the Corner Pug but the HD stole my heart.

Of all the places to live in Hartford, you chose a pretty good one, didn’t you?

by Jeff on Jul 6, 2008 9:22 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I got completely lucky

I’d never once set foot in Hartford before living there (moved there for work), and the person that handled my relo couldn’t understand why I wanted to live in a neighborhood where I could walk to stuff, so she put me there because then I’d stop bothering here. It was a great stroke of luck. The Corner Pug was pretty good, but it was no Half Door.

I was thinking about making the deal on rep alone, but it's a good thing I just did a scouting trip.

No way in hell we’re taking those two. We appreciate having punching bags around, but not at the cost of a promising rookie.

WTF?
There are humans at the bottom of the garden, and a glimpse inside their House convinces the fierce young faery known as Knife that they have knowledge that could help her dying people.

But if the human world has so much to offer, why is the faery Queen determined to keep her people away from it? Is there a connection between the House and the faeries’ loss of magic? And why is Knife so drawn to the young Paul McCormick — that strangest of creatures, a human male?
