Happy Fourth of July. I'm going to celebrate my freedom and independence by doing something else.

I'm ready to go.

I’m at work with no one around, so I have free rein to dick around on the Internet.

I'm in the same boat, mostly.

The computer I’m using is an ancient eMac, though, so I can follow the game on Yahoo/gamethread and that’s about it.

That's badass.

Hope he gets a few more chances to prove he’s worthy.

Favorite athlete: Sidney Crosby

Fans of RRS, how does it feel to have him kick you in the balls like that?

This doesn't make sense:
against the Blue Jays, which was kind of fitting because they were the only team I was exposed to growing up in Australia, as I once borrowed video tapes of the ‘93 World Series between Toronto and Philadelphia.

Weren’t they then one of two teams he was exposed to?

Wow. A boring series in a meaningless season on a national holiday and Jeff isn't around to snark things up.

I predict the deadest, crappiest game thread of the season.

Hell, I’m really just waiting for the Rays game to start myself.

My girlfriend is out of town, and I had the worst imaginable experience with 4th of July celebrations yesterday

So I’m stuck in here.

I wish I could make the world darker…I don’t like this mid-afternoon light. I crave the nighttime.

Huh, that last sentence came off as unintentionally emo.

Which reminds me: I want to plant emo grass in my yard so my lawn will cut itself.

That would be so sweet.

REPORTER: Erik, why did you come out of the game in the 4th inning? The trainer is telling us there aren’t any injuries.

BEDARD: [in thick Quebecois accent] Pourquoi me pensez-vous avez-vous fait, fausse-couche? Le jeu de Rayons-Royals a commencé! Vive Longoria!!

I'm not sure.

To be safe, I’m just going to talk about early/rare/unreleased Bruce Springsteen for the rest of this thread.

Maybe some other ‘70s/’80s musical acts.

By the way: best Bruce Springsteen albums: GREETINGS FROM ASBURY PARK, NJ and THE WILD, THE INNOCENT & THE E STREET SHUFFLE

Not Born To Run, though that’s definitely great.

Is that Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull?

If so, I would disagree. But there’s no question that early Tull (up to and including Thick As A Brick) is fantastic and innovative. The funny thing is, nobody really talks about the album of theirs that is far and away the best of them all: Stand Up. That’s one of the three best albums of 1969…and given that Let It Bleed, Abbey Road, Tommy, and a host of others came out that year, that’s saying something.

For some reason talking about Jethro Tull makes me want to smoke weed. What's up with that??

Not exactly stoner music, after all.

I guess the Mariners have driven me to this depth.

Him and Zappa.

Both made some very out-there music, but never messed with any drugs.

They were way too fruity at that point for me.

War Child has a couple decent cuts, but generally speaking I think they pretty much disappeared up their own ass after Thick As A Brick. What a mess A Passion Play was.

...

I’d say if you take charisma into account, he’s fantastic. His solo stuff is also great

by Last Fan Of Jose Lopez on Jul 4, 2008 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I've seen too many YouTube videos where he looks like a prancing ninny to attribute charisma to him

Keep in mind, Genesis are my favorite band, so I know something about prancing ninnies. I enjoy watching Peter Gabriel flounce around onstage dressed as a flower, after all.

Best unreleased/obscure early Springsteen track:

“Visitation At Fort Horn.” Great acoustic outtake from the Greetings From Asbury Park sessions. Originally meant to be on the album until the late composition of “Spirit In The Night” and “Blinded By The Light.” Lost its place on the album along with “Arabian Night” and “Jazz Musician” because Springsteen decided to make the album more rocky and less folky.

Unavailable anywhere save bootlegs…rights disputes kept them off the boxed set.

Is there any way to stretch the MLB.tv picture size?

Or is it limited to either postage stamp or fullscreen?

by Alex B on Jul 4, 2008 1:41 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Not really.

If you’re using Silverlight, I think it’s the three set sizes.

by Teej on Jul 4, 2008 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm using the WMP feed

Does that expand the possibilities?

by Alex B on Jul 4, 2008 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think that actually limits it.

Do you have Mosaic? I find that on Mosaic I can go full screen, then hit Escape, and it gives me a decent middle-ground size. But I don’t think you can do it in the web browser.

by Teej on Jul 4, 2008 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

When you first open the window for MLB.tv

While it is buffering or right when the game loads, right click go to properties then copy the URL.
Open up Windows Media Player,Go to file open URL paste and if you do this fast enough it will load and you are now playing it in WMP.
Good way of being able to watch to games at the same time without Mosaic, as I find that Mosaic eats up my connection.

by Knoll on Jul 4, 2008 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cool, thanks

Mosaic seems to work for me though luckily enough

Quote from Baker

“There’s a Milwaukee Brewers scout in attendance. He’s been watching the entire homestand. What do the Brewers need? Some rotation and bullpen help. Particularly of the lefty variety…But I’d think that Bedard, Washburn, Arthur Rhodes and Rayn Rowland-Smith will all be on that team’s radar.”

Anyone know if the Brewers have any good prospects we would possibly get in return. Also, I really hope they don’t trade hyphen.

Hyphen is safe....

Only way that he goes is if something really good comes back. I read that Hardy and Weeks may be in play but I am not sure that they are young enough for my liking.

by PLU Tim on Jul 4, 2008 2:31 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They've got some good prospects.

I’m just not sure how much they’re willing to give up. The Brewers don’t seem like the kind of organization to give up their home-grown guys for one pitcher. They’ve been linked to Sabathia, too, but I have a hard time imagining that.
