Riggleman - Morrow as a starter
So with all the trade deadline discussions going on today, I wasn't sure if anyone had come across this article on the M's website where Riggleman talks about converting Morrow to a starter.
He says that if they want to see Morrow as a starter.... do it now... here's the quote
"If we're going to do something down the road with Morrow as a starter, we have to get the transitions started," manager Jim Riggleman said Wednesday afternoon. "There is enough time to do it between here and Tacoma, but we probably would have to do start it in the next couple of weeks."
He says that to wait until the off-season and then judge in ST just wouldn't work you can't get a real feel for what he could do as you are trying to stretch him out in the spring.

If only someone was arguing for this
this past offseason! Damn you hindsight!

At least it's seriously being considered
... maybe.

Do this!
I'm back to liking midgets too much.

He'll be fine.
If they move him down now it won’t be a massive increase in innings. Remember he missed some time earlier in the year.

I still say the timing is stupid.

If they started it earlier, he would have maxed out his innings way before the end of the year, then he would have to sit.
What’s the point in that?

Riggleman must have been blogging on LL
while HE was at work. Its about time for rational thoughts.

They claimed that Maclaren read all the blogs
but then got upset by all the criticism, which makes no sense to me. Why get upset over this, just stop playing Vidro and Cairo, it’s that simple.

No, they claimed MacLaren read "the internet"
which pretty much guaranteed it wasn’t true.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Not only doesn't he read the Internet, he doesn't even read computers anymore.
Those blogs will eat you up.
...and now I'm here

I'm honestly beginning to believe that we will see Morrow stretched out this season.

I hope to God they give him a few starts in Tacoma.

They'll have to do it soon
Their season ends at the end of next month.
by Gomez on Jul 31, 2008 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
With everything being said and everything in print...signs are pointing to yes, it will happen this season
Which is good…pretty bad when you have basically no starting depth in the minors…gotta take them from the ‘pen

Seriously, the season has been over for months, and he just now realizes this would be a good idea, when it might already be too late?

I agree with everything...that it should have been done earlier and all that
but in Riggleman’s defense, Morrow was quite valuable while Putz was on the DL

This would be true if the M's even had a long shot
but they were so out of it already. There was no point to slotting him as a closer.

Oh hell yes!
I’m soooo going to every single one of his starts at Cheney if they do this. With my cameras of course…

Free Miguel Batista!
Seriously, if JJ can’t stay healthy this year, who cares if the back of the ‘pen blows chunks (and leads) quite often. Let Batista close, call Hyphen and/or Feier up to swallow some innings in the rotation, and put Morrow in Tacoma getting a little bit of a head start on becoming an SP…

He is British right? I just figured that’s how they spelled it over there. I was just giving further options for not screwing up.

Capitalization, proper sentence structure, solid thought processes, fondness for beer
3 of those 4 are essential for successful commenting. I’ll leave you to guess what the optional one is, but as you’ve found out, capitalization ain’t optional.
