Manny joining Torre

ManRam off to Tinseltown, prospects (unknown) to the Steel City and Jason Bay is now a Sock... Sox... Sok...? After everyone -- including the generally reliable Gammons -- reported that Manny-mania was dead in the water, this one came right out of left field, as it were. Gotta say it, hate to say it (even as a Sox fan... I'm sick of fighting the bandwagoners) but this might put Boston right back as the favorite in the East. Sorry Tampa.

Oh yeah, and Griffey in CF for the ChiSox? You gotta be kidding me.

Discuss.

EDIT: LA sends Bryan Morris and Andy LaRoche to Pittsburgh, Boston sends Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen the Bucs' way as well. Boston will be picking up some of Manny's remaining contract for this year.

In… credible. And I don’t think anyone rumor-wise was even suggesting a Manny to Dodgers deal.

Also

needless to say, this jacks up LAD’s outfield defense. And that outfield is already crowded.

Lee Pelekoudas, may you be doomed to watching Bio-Dome on air planes for the rest of your life.

At least

they don’t have a gimpy has-been roaming center field.

After hearing about this Manny crap for days,

I’m surprised I find this deal as interesting as I do. Dodgers simply refuse to see what the kids have to offer and will now have, what, $50 million tied up between Manny, Pierre, and Jones? I do think the Dodgers would be one of the few teams willing to pickup the option on Manny next year. Sox did well to get some value on what I generally looked at as selling a rental (didn’t think you’d find a team to partner with who be willing to pickup Manny for next year). Would have liked to see the Pirates retain Bay but he’s going to get pretty expensive for them rather quickly, and they were able to grab a handful of interesting prospects who are close to the majors and can contribute almost immediately. I think it was pretty good for almost everyone involved and not terribly surprising given the Dodgers fetish with overpaying for OF help.

Dodgers can't pick up his options....

according to Rosenthal, Manny waved his no trade clause for eliminating the two club options.

I approve of the Dodgers continuing to ignore their young talent.

It just occured to me that...

Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez, if ever on the same team, could combine for one of the worst nicknamed duos out there…

ManRam and A-Rod.

That's the one I'm thinking of.

The fast one from the River is ok, but I don’t get how it’s one of the regular songs.

I fucking hate you Joel.

Because Springsteen live is a religious experience

and he takes a song like Ramrod and turns it into something else entirely when he’s on stage. It’s absolutely electric done live.
