Don't be too sure Bill Bavasi would know what to do with the #1 pick.
Last time he got it, he drafted Darin Erstad.

Since when am I here to HELP you? :-P
I have two jobs on this blog: putting down Bavasi, and being a retarded fanboy about Joe Saunders. HELP was negotiated off the contract for being too vague.

Bavasi could have done worse than Erstad.
While he wasn’t a tremendous player like all teams would like a #1 pick to be, Erstad was a solid contributor offensively for most of his career. And, if I remember correctly, he also played a pretty good outfield.
Take a look at the years before and after that 1995 draft. The #1 overall picks were Paul Wilson and Kris Benson. That would have been worse.

True enough.
But I objected to the Erstad decision because we picked a guy who was near major-league ready at a position WE DIDN’T NEED. Our OF was Tim Salmon, Jim Edmonds, and Garret Anderson. All in their early-mid 20s. We were fine in the outfield. Picking up quick to the majors outfielder with high skills but low tools using the number one pick made NO SENSE.

Also, Kris Benson looked like a great pick until the injury post-2000
He was never really the same after that.

I wanted them to lose so bad
I about threw up when they won. They must’ve seen the Dodgers score and decided to keep it interesting.

What's Lester rate in tra and such?
Watching this game, he doesn’t look like he has anything, but he’s 8 into a 3 hit shutout.
by Faux on Jul 3, 2008 6:38 PM PDT 0 recs
Really?
I just don’t see it. it just looks like people should be hitting him a lot more, even in games like this.

Mike Hollimon goes on the short list of players I've never heard of earning Major League paychecks

I was about to ask who the hell that was.
The Tigers, for all their 1,000-run offensive prowess, have introduced two or three guys this year that I’ve never heard of.

Probably
I’ve hit up Sunday Morning QB, Conquest Chronicles, Field Gulls, Minor League Ball, and True Blue LA and none of them get LL level of content or posting.
D-Rays Bay might be the only one with the volume of traffic that I check regularly.

When I was 20, I had a girlfriend who worked there and got great discounts. That’s pretty much the best setup ever for an underage kid.

I sadly remember the days when I lived in Washington and didn't have access to a BevMo.
And no gin on Sundays! That sucked. I miss Washington, but California’s liquor laws make me complacent about ever moving back.

I was just so sure that a regression was coming that I never saw them ending up with the worst record in the majors.
