Oh God shut up

Pat tabler didn’t hit .489 with the bases loaded on merit. Jesus Christ.

Agreed.

I think a lot of the time he’s writing a de facto recap, anyways.

They have a beer thread (kinda.')

It has two comments.

Speaking of which, I read Off-Topic Diary of the (Millennium) again last night.

The community’s taste in beer has actually improved since then.

FanShots are underrated.

To further elaborate

if you look at the splits of every starter in baseball, in any given year there will only be a handful of LHBs each year that hit exceptionally well against LHP, your much better off going righty on lefty.

by JI on Jul 26, 2008 11:08 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And to add those LHBs are almost always stars

Last year:

Pena, Utley, Bonds, Ichiro, (and probably a few others I can’t think of) are the LHBs really hit exceptionally well against LHP.

Depends.

We need Raul and Jarrod traded for good young position talent like nobody’s business.

by Matthew on Jul 26, 2008 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dave's point is correct

but personally, I’d take a slight discount to make sure that Raul is gone and the talent that we got back was further along the development curve than two compensation picks.

Neither here nor there, but Graham and I were curious and looked it up this morning.

The Mariners selections with our two comp picks for A-Rod:
Michael Garciaparra
Rene Rivera.

Let the Mets overpay us

with the expectation being that they can get prospects back in next year’s draft. It’s what the A’s used to do.

by katal on Jul 26, 2008 11:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

and honestly

You’re talking about one half of his right handed at bats which is ~16% of all his PAs. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

by JI on Jul 26, 2008 11:18 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dickey's a cool guy

I’d rather watch him succeed.

by katal on Jul 26, 2008 11:24 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I have a feeling that when Hyphen is recalled

he’ll replace Dickey and not Tits.

Ugh.

by BrianL on Jul 26, 2008 11:24 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

You think with his ~93 MPH FB

tits could be an OK middle reliever.

by JI on Jul 26, 2008 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think he will be next year

If Hyphen and Morrow are stretched into starters, there won’t be much room for him in the rotation.

Bedard Felix Morrow Hyphen Silva

Is a rotation I would enjoy watching four out of five days

They're talking about it publicly

So it will probably happen. They’re probably waiting until they call Hyphen up first, though.

Rich Harden has 9 strikeouts today

all on swinging strikes.

Also the Dodgers trade makes me ill.

I saw the Dark Knight last night

WOW. And good thing I went by myself because it was packed in the theater, so I was able to use the trick of sitting in the middle of 3 available seats, so I had probably the only two empty seats in the theater on either side of me

Yeah, I know. I just didn't make it that far yet

And it came up briefly in last night’s thread and I was lightly chastised for going to see it solo

He’s exactly what we never have and so desperately need.

What did Manny do now?

I’m hearing all sorts of trade talks and possible waivers.

From a baseball perspective

The Sox should sell on Manny, he’s one of those guys whose rep far surpasses his abilities.

by JI on Jul 26, 2008 11:48 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He must have done something insane though

because the media talking like he wont be on the team come August no matter what. As in, if they can’t trade him, they’ll release him. There’s no way that’s true, but for them to say it means something’s amiss.

by Matthew on Jul 26, 2008 11:52 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow.

That can’t just release him, he’d end up in New York.

by JI on Jul 26, 2008 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Or Tampa Bay....

Oh GOD MAKE IT HAPPEN

This is the worst paragraph ever
Manny has punched his ticket out of town. It’s over. O-VA. Adios, amigo. Good night, Irene. Turn out the lights. Last night’s 1-0 loss to the Yankees (think they could have used Manny?) was the proverbial last worthless evening.

by Jeff on Jul 26, 2008 12:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly.

There’s no way the Sox dump him. They may let him walk this winter, but they’re not going to push him out this season.

by Matthew on Jul 26, 2008 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even though he loses 20 points in a real park

he’s still a good DH and a draw, they can’t release him.

TRADE TRADE TRADE

"Holy Shit, It's Steve Perry lead singer of Journey". "ha, FORMER Lead Singer."

by RafaelCarmona22 on Jul 26, 2008 11:47 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Via Rosenthal:
The Yankees have acquired outfielder Xavier Nady and left-hander Damaso Marte from the Pirates.

The Pirates received a package of four minor-league players — Class AAA right-handers Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens, and Daniel McCutchen, and Class AA outfielder Jose Tabata.

This is a change from the original package thought to be headed to Pittsburgh. Karstens and McCutchen were late replacements in the deal for Class AA left-hander Phil Coke and righty George Kontos, according to two sources familiar with the talks.

or we’ve just given up on the season…

I already watched pretty disastrous 9 innings of baseball in Person this afternoon.
