Special Guest Appearances -- TAM @ SEA 8.10.08

Apparently the responsibility of drafting another fan post falls to me, as LFoJL is too lazy--but he needs to know where to be on August 10th, and needs to know before August 1st.

Problem is--I haven't been to Safeco for four years.  I don't know where a good meetup spot would be for any LL'ers who are out to watch the Rays (likely) beat our Mariners.

So here's the place to give some suggestions!  Let us know if we'll see you!  Let me know how much beer-buying money I need to bring!  Or just party in our post!

Special Guest Appearances by Last Fan of Jose Lopez, NOLA Mariner Girl, and possibly more.

I'd say by the bullpens?

That way there’s something to do to pass the time while you wait for people to get there plus there’s the best beer vendor in the stadium right there.

If you go to the Budweiser Good Sport stand close to the Centerfield entrance

You can get a free soft drink as long as you “promise” to be a designated driver

Dickey will talk to anyone, Rowland-Smith and Morrow will give a nod or something, but RRS isn't in the pen anymore.

Charlton will also talk to just about anyone, but who cares.

My two year-old son handed morrow a ball the other day, and as he was signing it, he said,

“how are you doing, little guy?”

My son said, “I have to go poop SO bad.”

You can’t put a price on that shit.

Good talk with Brandon, though. I told him I couldn’t wait for management to stretch him out. He said, “yeah, like THAT’S going to happen.”

Apparently he’s a bit frustrated.

Saw your comment on Ryan's blog and was curious on what the story was

Your son sounds adorable….and that is just priceless.

At least the paper/news stories are actively talking about stretching Morrow out…the paper said probably before the end of the season (send him down to Tacoma in August, bring him back up in Sept) which I find hard to believe but we shall see…

Thanks,

whatever it is, it needs to be sooner than later. This is obviously another valuable player thrust into unhappiness via horrible team management. i hope he’s satiated soon, and we can all relish mid nineties fastballs killing opposing players.

I'll be driving up from Eugene in time for the 1:10pm game.

I don’t think I’ll be getting there very early…

So, where are people sitting?

I’d like to go, but this team in nowhere near entertaining enough for me to sit alone, and I can’t bring myself to root for the Rays in this game.

FanShots are underrated.

It looks like this is becoming a de facto LL meetup

I may have to get a ticket and show up. When alone, I usually get a cheap ticket and camp at the little minibar over the bullpens by LF, where the stairwell to the bullpens is at.

by Gomez on Jul 25, 2008 3:42 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Damn. I'll be in Eastern WA up by the Canadian border that day, or on my way back.

No way I can make to the game or any meetup.

There is a cool little area on the 300 level

on the third base side. Good views of downtown and the water. It may even have a name, though it escapes me at the moment…

Why are all LL meetups on Sundays?

Initial prediction: I have to work.

We don't negotiate with terrorists.

by Mariner John on Jul 25, 2008 9:07 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Same here

I think they were moved to Sunday so that Red could play, but Red hasn’t been here in a little while, so I am not sure. I used to get Sundays off, but now it seems I have to work all day every Sunday.

Correction

, but Red hasn’t been here hasn’t participated in softball in a while. Maybe we can move them back to Saturday that’d be cool.

I might be tempted in buying a ticket up to Seattle just to put a face to NOLA and LFOJL.

How do these meetups usually work? Yeah, enjoy a game together, but what about after-game activities?

But I will wait until closer to game time to see if other plans interfere or not.

You guys are convincing me to buy yet another "spontaneous" ticket

At least this one the planning started more than 3 days in advance…
RR-S had part in the other “Hmmm I think going to the game sounds good today” drainages of $$ haha

But I am curious as to what faces I am typing at…

As for meeting places: I have bought seats all over the stadium this yr and there isnt a bad seat..Each section has a different “atmosphere” like bleachers usually more animated/rowdy for example. I like hanging by the bullpens…good place to meet friends if you can grab tables back there. And there’s always Lookout Landing!

Ill be there

I rarely miss a Sunday game. Besides, I have to catch as many games as I can in August since Im missing the last two weeks of the season.

Has it been settled?

Are the bullpens determined to be the ultimate meetup location?

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 28, 2008 10:47 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I was just wondering that myself.

Are the bullpens meant to be for the entire game, or just before the game?

I would do cartwheels over my name written in sand

by NOLAmarinergirl on Jul 28, 2008 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I meant just for before the game.

Since while waiting for people to congregate, you could at least busy yourself by heckling pro athletes. Then, once people show up, move to actual seats.

by Matthew on Jul 28, 2008 3:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought so but I wanted clarification.

This does not mean you have to drink the beer.

like “right after the first time that Raul does something hilarious in LF” or “right after the first time you think ‘2005 Yuni would have gotten that’”

You know...

There’s this great little bar on Capitol Hill that serves wonderful tropical drinks (fresh-squeezed juices and so on). It’s my fave hangout after work on a Friday, though Sunday’s even better because they aren’t as busy.

Oh, and they have Flor de Caña. Just sayin’.

by eponymous_coward on Jul 29, 2008 2:50 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Sun Liquor is awesome.

My girlfriend and her co-workers go there pretty much every Friday night, and I’ve been with ‘em a few times. Great little place. Close to the Stumbling Monk, too, so it’s a nice area for a pub crawl.

Canterbury > Smith

Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

Canterbury's OK

I forget how the drinks compare… I’ve always been pretty lit whenever I’ve walked in there.

by Gomez on Jul 30, 2008 3:56 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

canterbury's drinks eat Smith's for (Smith's extremely overrated) breakfast

The Canterbury is not necessarily a place that you go for one well-mixed drink and a convivial chat about the issues of the day. It’s the kind of place where the gin and tonics are 7/8 gin and just a touch of tonic. Which is good. The staff is cool, the food is good and bar-y (no surprises, just lots o’ good fried goodness, and they serve actual breakfasts, unlike Smith which serves art disguised as food), and it’s nice and dark most times.

And, free pool! At least during the day.

I like the sausage and eggs at Smith

The rest of their menu is indeed weird and I avoid.

by Gomez on Jul 30, 2008 10:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Food's good at Smith... drinks are pricey

Though one of the times I was there, I got to see their front window come crashing down on an employee.

Ooh, you were there?

Was it one of the ladies? I noticed one of the bartenders hasn’t been seen since.

That place is cursed

In the years I lived in Seattle, it was about 8 different places, and since I’ve left it’s been about 3 more.

Smith is packed most days

I’ve heard about the curse of this location… but they’re still doing remarkably good business.

by Gomez on Jul 30, 2008 10:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think having the Linda's people owning it helps

They have the money to invest to get it right, and to stick with it until they do. So far it’s been paying off…

Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

by pdb on Jul 31, 2008 8:35 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's cheaper and more accessible than Linda's

I go to Linda’s and just getting a spot to stand at the bar seems impossible, let alone getting a seat. And then the drinks cost a ton.

by Gomez on Jul 31, 2008 9:25 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll be there with my fiancée

I don’t know which section yet as the tix are at Will Call. I’ll be dragging her down there as early as possible though!
