Washburn ----> No Trade Clause
The Yankees can not acquire Mariners left-hander Jarrod Washburn without his approval.
Washburn's limited no-trade protection gives him the right to veto a deal to the Yankees, according to a major-league source.
Washburn, who turns 34 on Aug. 14, is owed the balance of his $9.85 million salary this season and $10.35 million next season.
Players generally require financial compensation to waive no-trade protection, usually in the form of a cash bonus or contract extension.
Just when you thought this contract couldn't be any more hilarious...

Uh... why would he say no?
The Yankees are in contention and there’s no catcher to throw under the bus there.

What about Posada?
Something about how the chemistry with the new catcher isn’t quite right and if Posada would just man up and play through injuries, everything would be fine!

Why wouldn't he want to do this?
He has a great ERA in Yankee Stadium (ie, he’ll be confident there), the Yankees are in the playoff hunt and he would be in the public eye more (could boost his trade value this off-season/FA after ‘09.
Is he declined a trade to the Yanks then he’s a retard who needs to get kicked in the balls

Jarrod Washburn said Wednesday that he would “strongly consider” waiving his limited no-trade clause.Washburn can’t block a trade to teams like the White Sox or Cardinals anyway, but could nix a deal to the Yankees. “I love it here in Seattle,” Washburn said. “But at the same time I love to win.”

Yo Adrian: Despite reports that the Twins have given up on their attempts to pry Adrian Beltre away from Seattle, we’re hearing those discussions are far from dead. The Twins’ No. 1 trading priority is to upgrade at third base. One team that reportedly has packed it in on Beltre is the Dodgers, after they learned that Beltre’s no-trade list specifically blocks his return to Chavez Ravine.

2 of my favorite comments
I guess I just don’t get why people are angrymaybe it is the cynicism created from the clear pattern this organization has taken in the off-seasons or the way the bullpen has performed this year, but seriously, people…to get this angry that they blew another game is ridiculous.
THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 2 MONTHS NOW AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN.
It’s just a fact of the 2008 team. You should expect the bullpen to blow it late in a game and just hope like heck the offense bails them out late. It just makes no sense to be so outraged, so enraged that you’ve gotta swear, vent, rant, etc.
Just accept it already.
This isn’t a place for venting. This is for a semi-intelligent discussion. Read the guidelines before you return. Thanks and have a nice day.

I'm with Dave on letting Raul stay
We’ll get two Type A draft picks if he walks after 2008 under our watch. Plus, his defense in left can only help in the chase for Strasburg.

If Raul goes it means Willie has somewhere we can play his "bat" every day

Yeah.
Hopefully Lee makes sure that any deal for Raul is at least the equivalent of 2 picks.
I have faith, considering there were reports that we were asking for Max Scherzer for Raul. Such a change from “okay, you get Raul and we get this delicious can of Sprite.”

Yep - Dave made a really convincing argument.

I think it'd be funny if Raul accepted arbitration just to be a dick

"I love Seattle and want to finish my career here."
Well, then, there’s our DH
by Gomez on Jul 24, 2008 11:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not sold on keeping Raul
Even if we move him to DH he’s not much of an asset, we could do better in free agency. Might as well sell high now while he is still perceived as an okay OFer (even though we all know he clearly isn’t to us) and get the best we can for him.

The idea is that he'd walk and we'd get two Type A draft picks once he rejects arbitration
and that the potential return in a trade won’t be that high.

Make it happen people
Via MLB Trade Rumors...
5:36pm: According to Ed Price of the Newark Star-Ledger, talks have progressed on a possible Washburn-Yankees trade. Price says the Ms aren’t sold on Kei Igawa, but the Yankees are willing to discuss Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner.

I would be fine with Gardner.
He’s a solid CF if I am not mistaken. Not a great bat, but he is fast as fuck and can play D

Washburn is a proven Red Sox killer.

You have to have left handed pitching to win in Yankee Stadium.

I keep reading that we are trying to get Vidro in these trades.
I read (on MLBTR, don’t shoot!) that for Raul we are either asking for premium prospects or trying to get Vidro in there.
If we trade Raul for nothing because of Vidro, I will break things. We should keep Vidro and either let Raul walk for a 1st and a sandwich, or trade him for two good prospects, one of which should be MLB-ready

The Dodgers have inquired about Ibanez
I’d be happy with Andy LaRoche.
