Washburn ----> No Trade Clause

The Yankees can not acquire Mariners left-hander Jarrod Washburn without his approval.
Washburn's limited no-trade protection gives him the right to veto a deal to the Yankees, according to a major-league source.

Washburn, who turns 34 on Aug. 14, is owed the balance of his $9.85 million salary this season and $10.35 million next season.

Players generally require financial compensation to waive no-trade protection, usually in the form of a cash bonus or contract extension.

Just when you thought this contract couldn't be any more hilarious...

Uh... why would he say no?

The Yankees are in contention and there’s no catcher to throw under the bus there.

What about Posada?

Something about how the chemistry with the new catcher isn’t quite right and if Posada would just man up and play through injuries, everything would be fine!

He'd get to have someone who's caught him previously, Jose Molina

I think that would be incentive for him to go.

Why wouldn't he want to do this?

He has a great ERA in Yankee Stadium (ie, he’ll be confident there), the Yankees are in the playoff hunt and he would be in the public eye more (could boost his trade value this off-season/FA after ‘09.

Is he declined a trade to the Yanks then he’s a retard who needs to get kicked in the balls

And what's with Rosenthal making coherent points about Nady benefitting from good luck this season

and talking about how K-Rod’s peripherals indicate a pitcher in decline?

I was pretty surprised by that.

Washburn is listed as having "limited no-trade protection"

What do you guys think this means, prob can veto trades to five or six teams? Good work, Bill…

This doesn't make any sense.

Vidro’s gone anyways, why hurt our return in order to save a few million on this year’s team? We need to be saving money on future teams. Dealing Vidro means we’d almost certainly be getting Igawa back. That’s retarded.

Hitting Vidro cleanup is stupid but can actually be explained, as we see here.

They could tell Morrow to throw some ridiculously wide pitches

and then spin it like they’re making him into Rick Ankiel. It’s not horrendously unexplainable.

What's interesting

who the hell gets a limited no trade clause and has the Yankees on his no list? Isn’t that usually reserved for Pittsburgh and Baltimore?

It wouldn't surprise me if certain players had personal issues with NYY and its management

(Griffey being the prime example of this), but I don’t know exactly why Washburn would have a problem with them.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 23, 2008 12:07 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually, I kinda respect that about him

If I were in the spot to pick 5 or six teams to not be traded to, #1 would be the Yankees. Perhaps he just hates them as much as the rest of world does. Good on ‘em.

Update

Via Rotoworld

Jarrod Washburn said Wednesday that he would “strongly consider” waiving his limited no-trade clause.

Washburn can’t block a trade to teams like the White Sox or Cardinals anyway, but could nix a deal to the Yankees. “I love it here in Seattle,” Washburn said. “But at the same time I love to win.”

Can’t block a trade to teams like the Cardinals…you hear that, JI?

Via Rumblings

Yo Adrian: Despite reports that the Twins have given up on their attempts to pry Adrian Beltre away from Seattle, we’re hearing those discussions are far from dead. The Twins’ No. 1 trading priority is to upgrade at third base. One team that reportedly has packed it in on Beltre is the Dodgers, after they learned that Beltre’s no-trade list specifically blocks his return to Chavez Ravine.

Beltre doesn’t want to be a Dodger again? Colour me shocked.

2 of my favorite comments
I guess I just don’t get why people are angry

maybe it is the cynicism created from the clear pattern this organization has taken in the off-seasons or the way the bullpen has performed this year, but seriously, people…to get this angry that they blew another game is ridiculous.

THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 2 MONTHS NOW AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN.

It’s just a fact of the 2008 team. You should expect the bullpen to blow it late in a game and just hope like heck the offense bails them out late. It just makes no sense to be so outraged, so enraged that you’ve gotta swear, vent, rant, etc.

Just accept it already.

This isn’t a place for venting. This is for a semi-intelligent discussion. Read the guidelines before you return. Thanks and have a nice day.
