Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners, Jul 22, 2008 7:10 PM PDT

After 48 starts in the big leagues, Matsuzaka's got a career tRA of 4.57 and an xFIP of 4.64. Solid investment, guys. Totally worth the frenzy.

Where does nabbing Dickey in the Rule 5 Draft rank on the list of best Mariner moves of the year? Of the last five years? I can't believe the same team that paid so very much for four of its starters was able to find a competent back-end solution for a Fahey fistful of pennies. If I didn't know better, I'd call it genius.

by Last Fan Of Jose Lopez on Jul 22, 2008 6:35 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bad idea.

Bill James did a simulation where he had Babe Ruth hitting normally in a terrible lineup, and Babe Ruth getting walked in ALL his PAs. The second lineup scored more runs, because the 1.000 OBP (and NO outs) tends to help you score runs.

“Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale), the man fated to be the leader of the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, and the future he was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a Terminator whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they find out a terrible secret that may lead to the possible annihilation of mankind”
