Ryan Rowland-Smith blogs about getting sent down...

Ryan Rowland-Smith just posted a fantastic new blog where he shares what he went through when he learned he was getting sent down and what he plans to do to make it back:

http://www.prolebrity.com/triple-aaa-thoughts/

It's awesome to see athletes like RRS embracing blogging and giving us insights into what they go through.

Let's support RRS and give him ideas on what to blog about next!

We're rooting for ya RRS...hope to see you back in Seattle soon!!!

Why?

He is obviously upset to be sent down and wants to improve himself. Why not take a look a Pitch F/X to see if it will help? He’s obviously a smart lad and at least fairly competent with using a computer so … go for it!

If Ryan Rowland-Smith became the left-handed Brian Bannister, that would be insanely awesome

because unlike Brian Bannister, RRS actually has talent.

Could I claim 10% for introducing it to him?

Well, he's understandably bent. Who likes getting sent down?

But I have to agree: things like this will help him appreciate it even more once he finally gets back to the bigs for good. And ultimately, we know this move is the best chance for him to become a full time MLB starter.

Your 2011 Seattle Mariners

1. RHP Felix Hernandez
2. RHP Stephen Strasburg
3. RHP Brandon Morrow
4. LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith
5. LHP The Guy That We Get Back For Erik Bedard (or Ryan Feierabend if the trade is headlined by a bat)

By itself, this makes me drool – and if there’s one thing that Bavasi did well, it was find cheap, effective bullpen arms, and there’s no reason to believe that a new, smarter FO won’t continue to do that. Sorry for rosterbating on everyone, I just really like some of the guys we have in terms of potential as SPs down the road.

I thought he’d be ready by 2011?

Closer!

... Naw, didn’t even think of him, or Juan Ramirez/Michael Pineda to be honest. It looks like the org could have a lot of RHSP depth by that point though – you’d hope a smart GM might be able to move some of it for a bat or two or seven.

Per Rotoworld

Despite experiencing success at closer filling in for J.J. Putz, Brandon Morrow said Monday that he still hopes to become a starter.

“I just like the idea of going six or seven innings,” Morrow said. “Just more time on the mound to work. I want to pitch as many innings as possible. I’d like to get in a rhythm and see how far I can go every time out.” Once Putz reclaims the closer job Morrow will almost surely be headed back into a setup role, but moving to the rotation remains an option for next season

The moment the team decides that they want to "compete" next season

(which they almost certainly have decided by now), Morrow’s staying in the bullpen.

by katal on Jul 22, 2008 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions

He's not an option in the rotation until he spends time starting in the minors.

If they try to stretch him out during the season in the majors or in spring training, it will be a disaster. He needs to get sent down yesterday.

Okay...

Joba Chamberlain, GS/IP above Rookie Ball-15/88.1
Brandon Morrow, GS/IP above Rookie Ball-1/3.0

Is it possible that Morrow could step in to the rotation and be serviceable right away? Sure. Is it the best way to go about doing things? Not as far as I’m concerned.

I’m not buying Morrow’s readiness to start at the major league level until he does it at least a few times in the minors, especially when you consider that he wasn’t a starter until his final year at Cal. Just because it worked once for someone else doesn’t mean it’s the best way to do things, especially when you consider the fact that the M’s are playing for nothing at this point.

Me hate Mariners.

Sending down RRS! Why in the world wouldn’t they get rid of Batista?

The Mariners don't care about Strasburg!

They’re still trying to milk every win possible that’s left from ‘08.
