Second Annual Stone Sour Fest
SUNDAY, JULY 20th 11am-9pm
The human palate is capable of detecting four basic tastes, but during a typical beer tasting only two of those (well, three if you count the pretzels) are experienced: bitter, sweet, and salty. At the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens we feel it's high time we included the fourth flavor domain, SOUR, in the equation. Join us for hours of sours as we celebrate this great, and often unexplored, tradition of tart and tasty ales. We're currently tracking down as many sour beers as we can put on tap and keep in bottles for the special day. The event will kick off when we open at 11am and will continue all day long at our outdoor bar. A $30 Sour Pass will get you 10 taster tickets (some of the rarer sour beers will require two tickets) along with a commemorative glass. Buy your Sour Pass on Sunday at the outside bar.
I won't be watching you, Carlos. Do your worst.

I am filled with great disappointment that Stone fails to mention the fifth basic taste, umami.

Umami is disgusting in solution.

I don't care of Rays fans think Edwin Jackson sucks.
I would take him over 3/5ths of our rotation in a heartbeat.
Brewers are close to getting Ray Durham
by Last Fan Of Jose Lopez on Jul 20, 2008 1:07 PM PDT reply actions
I've always liked Ray Durham
Maybe partially the fact that he could pwn in All Star Baseball 2004 for my expansion team.
Grady Sizemore grew up in Mill Creek?
I had no idea, Rick.
Ridiculous, isn't it? Tits still gets to spray jellied gasoline all over the field and then drop a gas, but Hyphen isn't good enough.

They could stretch him out in the majors...
by Last Fan Of Jose Lopez on Jul 20, 2008 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions
They're not smart enough to do that
They’re probably worried about wrecking his confidence or something, I dunno, they think stupidly.
The only way this makes any sense is if they’re stretching him out, if they were just freeing up a spot they’d send Jimenez or Corcoran or Rhodes down before they would Hyphen.
I think they're worried about taxing the bullpen while he stretches out.
It makes a bit of sense, you need those mop-up guys on Washburn/Silva/Tits starts.
*drop a match
For fuck’s sake I’ve made that same category of error three times today in different places.

Per Jon Heyman
Seattle’s year just got a little worse, and interim GM Lee Pelekouda’s task just got a little tougher. It was reported in Seattle-area papers that pitcher Erik Bedard probably won’t pitch again until after the July 31 trade deadline. So apparently, the Mariners are stuck with Bedard for now.
Oh no, we’re stuck with a great pitcher

He also refers to Christian Guzman as All Star Christian Guzman
Which I find hilarious.

Suffice to say, Laphroaig+Schlenkerla as a nightcap does not turn out well.

Good point.
And since it’s now technically my birthday, I’m throwing a party. I’m on the Ruination. And it is nice.
Ruination is pretty much my favorite beer ever.
If tomorrow were not a night off, it’s what I’d be purchasing.
by Aaron Campeau on Jul 21, 2008 1:01 AM PDT up reply actions
I used to love it so much.
I think with the Laphroaig removed from the equation (and the memories of that fateful night fading) I’m ready to get back on the Rauchbeir train.
by Aaron Campeau on Jul 21, 2008 12:37 AM PDT up reply actions
If you had said Rauchbier and meant Rockport, they probably should have cut you off.
by Aaron Campeau on Jul 21, 2008 1:02 AM PDT up reply actions
I felt that she needed to be cut off.
But she was hot, so whatever.
I pointed to the beer I wanted. It was the only one in the cooler where there was a beer missing, because Jeff had bought the previous one. “The one that has no English words on it.”
I find myself pointing at beers a lot.
I know a far amount about beer, but my pronunciation is beyond subpar.

Did you try New Belgium Eric's Ale?
My girlfriend was going to order it until the bartender described it as “drinking a Jolly Rancher” but I was intrigued. I went with the Duchess de Bourgone instead.
by Aaron Campeau on Jul 21, 2008 12:21 AM PDT up reply actions
I didn't try it because I'm not real big on New Belgium
but honestly, after the first few, all the sour and tartness just started to blend together. I’ve had a kriek in the fridge for a few days now, and I don’t think I’ll be touching it for months.
