Jason Churchill over at PI has some tidbits concerning what the Mariners might be up to between now and the trading deadline. Among the current rumors:
- Jarrod Washburn is "pitching himself out of Seattle." The Phillies, Astros, Diamondbacks and Cardinals have shown interest in our favorite deadpanning southpaw. Expect the return to be "uninspiring" but I think we all knew that. Perhaps if we're lucky, we can fleece something nice out of the Astros.
- Atlanta is interested in Raul Ibanez, but there's no indication that an offer has been made.
- If Erik Bedard is traded, expect to get "75 cents on the dollar," using the original Bedard for Jones, Sherrill, 3 prospects as a benchmark.
- Miguel Batista isn't going anywhere. Joy.
-The Dodgers and Brewers have asked about Adrian Beltre, but here's the kicker. The Mariners FO isn't very high on trading Beltre because A) they feel they would be selling low, B) they're convinced Beltre will be able to help the team compete next season.
Oh, and C)
because they want to keep him beyond 2009
So, there you go. Obviously the tidbits about Beltre make me giddy and happy.
