Around SBN: Holy War Week Brings out the Worst in Fans

Visiting SafeCo

I'm going to be visiting SafeCo (and Seattle) for the first time this next week.  I've got tickets for the Sox game on Monday, I think.  I was just hoping you guys could give me some suggestions/recommendations as to what to look for in the ballpark (edible and non-food items alike), as well as things to do in the city/around the stadium.

This is coming from a Giants fan...just wanted to say I do read your blog occasionally and enjoy it, keep up the good work.

Pyramid Brewery is ALWAYS packed with fans before Red Sox games.

If you can deal with a 65-35 split of Red Sox fans to Mariners I’d visit there for a pre game beer.

And you must chant ‘Fuck the Red Sox” then they get a “Let’s go Red Sox” cheer going. It’s mandatory.

I fucking hate you Mariners

Pyramid is NOT a good place to drink before/after games IMO

For outside of the stadium walk a few blocks to either Collins Pub or Temple Billiards.

In the stadium you can get a decent beer at any concession stand but if you bring cash there are little beer only stands that move faster than the food lines do.

Not too old to fail to remember my Chargers

Kicking some KM butt in every sport every year.

But yeah, I am an old fart compared to most of you. I have the gray hairs to prove it.

Haha..that still occurs.

I just figured as a visiting fan…if you want a little bit of a baseball/rivalry experience while sipping on an ‘ok’ beer, Pyramid isn’t a bad place to go.

If you’d rather have a less chaotic environment, where you can get your walker past people, then maybe Collins Pub or Temple is a place to go .

Seconding Temple

and the Owl N Thistle’s pretty good too. Pyramid sucks, unless you want to recreate every dorm-room party you ever went to.

You are too old.

And with the Sox in town, you are going to find the ‘dorm-room party’ atmosphere most everywhere.

There is no ceiling

and I refuse to bow to the influx of drunken idiot children into my drinking establishments. I have no problem with drinking copious amounts of beer, I do it all the time; all I ask is that people be able to hold their liquor in public. if you can’t, I don’t want to be around you. And sadly, most people under 25 can’t, at least not the ones that hang out at Pyramid.

I hate them just as much as anyone..doesn't mean I won't go hang out with friends there.

You can avoid those idiots…I suppose less so when the Sox are in town. But I’m lazy and can largely avoid the frat boys while at Pyramid.

It's just convenient for me...right across from the entrance, drink until 5 minutes before the first pitch.

I hate the drunken immature kids as much as anyone..but there are areas within the parking lot to avoid. I’ve had good luck with meeting fans from other teams and discussing baseball, etc.

One more pet peeve corrected

I always hate when people do that. It’s a bit more excusable when someone like unleashthegore does it, cuz they’re not from around here, but when Seattle people do it it drives me nuts.

The signs that say "Welcome to Capitol Hill" on E John and on 10th by the Roanoake

used to say “Welcome to Capital Hill” until someone pointed out to the city that it was spelled “Capitol”. There’s “O” stickers over the a’s now.

the above Gomez post was double posted… Makes less sense now that I refresh and see that it is in fact a single post

set our printer so that it says “Rain City Video Freemont” on the receipts, and we get bitched at least once a week for it.

You're excused, I just thought I'd let you know.

Thankfully we’ve only had to deal with one corporate name on our stadium so far (not counting Key and Qwest).

Bedard v Lester

you can check these on mariners.com -> news -> probable pitchers

Or is he still hurt because a butterfly flew past him while he was warming up?

Sausages on Occidental Ave

You can save a few bucks and get better food than in the stadium at the sausage stands on Occidental Ave. (the pedestrian-only side street that runs north/south just to the north of the stadium).

As for things to do in Seattle, where are you staying? Are you gonna have a car? If you’re staying around downtown, Pike Place Market is worth visiting, as is the public library’s main branch (4th and Madison). The sculpture park in Belltown has nice views of the water/mountains/skyline.
