Service Time and Callups
It wasn't that long ago that there were alot of discussions about when to callup up Clement and how it would affect his service time in the majors.
Now it seems like that can of worms is being attacked by agents, as Francisco Liriano's agent is calling for the the players union to investigate the Twins for not calling up Liriano after he's posted a 7-0 record with a 2.73 ERA in his last 9 games in AAA.
His agent Greg Genske is claiming that by not calling him up its had an adverse effect on his service time. He currently stands at 2 years and 45 days according to the article, and of course 3 years is when arbitration eligibility kicks in.
The Twins say its only because the young guys have pitched well, and Livan Hernandez is the only "veteran" and the only one with post season experience so they are reluctant to move him out of the rotation even though he's been pretty bad.

This is going to be really interesting
What shocks me is that this doesn’t happen more often.
It’s also useful in showing that there CAN be a downside to messing with service time, and that Bavasi’s way of doing things, while possibly hurting in arb, at least keeps these conflicts to a minimum.

This is going to be one of those things
that’s tough to prove, but its going to make other players agents step up and take notice, and probably make teams a little more leary of not delaying the callups to top prospects.

I'm so glad that this year we didn't act like dicks to Jeffie and Wlad!
by not calling them up when they deserved it, and still gained that extra year by sending them back down deservedly

Say what you want about Bill Bavasi
I at least give him credit for ensuring shit-storms like this never happened.

Yeah, the shit-storms only took place when the players took the field.

It could have happned last year.
Alot of people were questioning his reluctance to bring up Jones when Vidro and Ibanez were struggling, and there were service times questions involved.

If the Twins really are looking at Beltre. Liriano
would be a perfect swap along with say, Cuddyer. Somehow, I doubt the Twins would do that.

And Cuddyer sucks, so....
Poor guy’s making more contact than ever before, but he’s hitting the ball softer and softer. HR/FB, ISO, everything is trending down in a hurry.

Yeah, YOU don't
but if were going to lose Beltre…who would be better from the Twins, Baker?
