Around SBN: Phillies trade for OF Matt Stairs Bar-right-arrows

Tampa Bay at Seattle, August 10th

Our superb Seattle Mariners take on those boys we're all growing to love (and if not, here is not the place to say it) August 7-10th.  I realize that this is early to post about this game, but it is the All-Star Break and really, what else have we to do?

Oh right, statistical analysis.

Anyway, I realize that Sunday is typically LL softball day, but I already have my tickets to the 1:10pm game, and wondered if anyone else would be around.  Y'all should pick up a ticket.  Who wants to miss the Rays?

Also, I think there's a chance to see LFOJL there.  Maybe if we snap a photo, we can animorph him.

I'll try to make the whole series.

I’ll be the guy in the Rays hat and Adam Jones O’s jersey.

Thread Hijack!

Josh Hamilton is not human.

I fucking hate you Mariners

Sweet master of fuck balls Josh Hamilton is the master of anything he wants.

I saw him park one into the third deck at Safeco (right in the corner of the power alley) in BP. I think he hit at least 3 HR furth than that tonight

I love that he had so much fun doing it.

After his first HR he turned to the catcher and said, ‘this is so awesome.”

So many of his hrs

I thought, man that’s a fly ball, and BAM! 450+ feet.

by LantermanC on Jul 14, 2008 6:57 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

He hits them so high, they just look like pop outs.

I'm pretty much at every game so I should be there.

#1 priority: Strasburg
2 priority: Rays playoffs

I don’t see how cheering on the Rays is detrimental to the Mariners.

by lailaihei on Jul 14, 2008 8:34 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I know, I just wanted to point out my reasoning for not feeling bad about rooting for the opposition...

Although I usually do it anyway.
Does this make me an anti-Mariners fan? I follow them the most closely, but that has made me come to hate a lot of the team members and root for them to fail.

by lailaihei on Jul 14, 2008 8:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No, losing is good for the Mariners, winning is pointless

It makes you a better fan than everyone who wants pointless victories now at the expense of future meaningful ones.

by OlSalty on Jul 14, 2008 8:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, what I said was only half true...

I care more about the Rays making the playoffs than the Mariners going up or down a pick or two…

by lailaihei on Jul 14, 2008 9:10 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Even then I couldn't do it. Especially not at Safeco.

I’ve been following the M’s too long to root for them to lose, draft pick or no.

I stop caring about losses

but after 28+ years of actively rooting for the M’s, rooting for losses is like rooting for your kid to crash his bike and break his arm.

I root for players first...

I always want Felix to succeed, for instance.
But I really really like it when Silva and Washburn fail…
And since the season is lost already, more losing just makes me think that maybe Chuck and Howie will decide to try a completely new organizational approach…
It might be in vain, but it doesn’t seem any more pointless than rooting for the Mariners to win any given game this season.

Your kid crashing that bike will break his arm

but it will also give him a fastball like that twerp in Rookie of the Year.

It probably won't be as impressive as the Josh Hamilton movie.

...If Will Ferrell had any balls… he’d take that role.

Too true

That's the best movie.

I saw it last year on hbo, and immediately ordered it off amazon. I had almost forgotten about it until then.

by LantermanC on Jul 14, 2008 9:52 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No way.

I had a cross country coach who always wanted to show that on bus rides. I’m sick of it. It’s more about a dog than baseball.

by LantermanC on Jul 14, 2008 9:56 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No.

...It’s about a weener fitting in.

by oc on Jul 14, 2008 9:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

"weener"...

...is that the correct spelling?

by oc on Jul 14, 2008 10:01 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

The preferred spelling of "wiener" is

w. i. e. n. e. r. although e. i. is an acceptable ethnic variant.

"Failure is the mother of success"

Which is why I can root for failure.

by lailaihei on Jul 14, 2008 9:49 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Same here.

The Rays are my second team but when I go, I root for the M’s, regardless.

Yeah, M's first. M's always first.

However, the chase for Strasburg is nice in that when Silva gives up 7 runs in the first game, I laugh in an evil kind of way and think “Excellent, it is all going according to plan,” without getting ridiculously pissed with him to HoRam or Carlos Beltran levels.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 15, 2008 9:24 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Exactly. I'm not mad when we lose (unless one of my favorites blows it or its a heartbreaker)

but I just can’t bring myself to root against my own team while I’m there watching them.

Ill be there

I won a “Be a Groundskeeper for the day” and I got to choose my date. I chose the 10th so I could be on the field with the Rays AND M’s. Hope to see you all there!

Blow it up! BLOW IT SKY HIGH!

So here is your story:

Your girlfriend recently died/is really ill. Her name is Lori Lansing. Ask if you can put a 6inch by 6inch “LL” on the back of the pitchers mound or near 2nd base. (watered down infield and you put down dry dirt)

Get it done for LL!

So i’d be fucking thrilled to meet some of ya’ll there. I don’t yet know where my tickets are, but I’ll be there.
