Ibanez and Beltre Rumors
The SB Nation fantasy site, Faketeams, has reported that teams are interested in acquiring Raul Ibanez or Adrian Beltre before the trade deadline.
This article contains quotes from local newspapers indicating interest in Ibanez from the Mets and D-Backs. It also reports that the twins have an interest in Adrian Beltre.
Should these rumors prove true, what kind of value do you think we could get for either of these players? I would be sad to see Beltre go, I'm a fan of him, although if we got a 1st baseman and maybe some prospects for Ibanez I'd be ecstatic. Any players in particular on the interested teams you think we could get/would like to see us get?
Edit:
According to ESPN:
The Twins have contacted the Mariners about the possibility of aquiring Adrian Beltre. It is unclear how deep the conversation got, but it is a step forward as the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported last week that the Twins had internal discussions about Beltre.
Beltre, who was a Gold Glove winner last year, would be the bat the Twins are looking for against left-handed pitching.

I think Ibanez would fit well in LF for Baltimore
We could get some of their top prospects back, starting with RHP Chris Tillman, who is tearing up AA and LHP Tony Butler who is projectable.

Only if they throw in their closer, because he'd made a great LOOGY
I like that young center fielder they have too. I think he’d upgrade an outfield spot with us.

we might upset their owner and delay the deal for weeks and weeks

You sure it wasn't more like
Minneapolis newspaper editor “Hey, are the Twins looking to pick up anyone?”

Here's how this inquiry went:
Twins GM: Hey we’re interested in Beltre. How does (Prospect name here) and (Prospect/crappy ML player name here) sound? You’ll have to pay (X amount of dollars here), though.
Lee: Go away.

I think it was more like
Twins assistant to the assistant GM: Hey, Adrian Beltre is pretty good and maybe undervalued
Twins assistant GM: Yeah he is
The end.

Almost always true.
At least two sided rumors usually give some glean of info.
This is one-sided. It’s worthless.

I figured it was a "thought combination" error...
I always like those. Like you were thinking about “gleaning” some information. So when you tried to type “gleam” you instead typed “glean.” Like a spoonerism or a Freudian slip (but of the non-embarrassing variety.)

I wonder if the smarter FOs send a couple interns out into the blagoweb to sow seeds of misinformation about trades, so that the ESPNs and other assorted idiots of the world publish it and push things in their direction.

I like a lot of really random obscure shit, but I want everyone else to like it, too. Most of my friends probably think of me as annoying guy who’s always trying to give them weird music they don’t care about.

I think the idea is
that people feel special knowing about a band that very few other people are into. Like they have a connection with the band, or that it’s a secret that only they are privy to.
btw, discussing the merits of indie music on a baseball blog > talking about stupid rumors ever.
by katal on Jul 14, 2008 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess I understand the motivations those people have.
I just don’t understand why people would prefer to keep things like that to themselves. Maybe it comes from being in a band and seeing things from that point of view, but if you like a band and appreciate what they do, wouldn’t you want them to do well? Shouldn’t their talent and hard work be rewarded? That’s why it bugs me so much, and it seems like the kind of person pdb is describing is likely the kind of person that’s never been in a working band, which is a big part of the reason why I can’t stand shit like that.

And still pretty fantastic live, too
A friend of mine (not the hipster douchebag one) went to the Fluid/Green River show at the Sunset, and said that Green River was kinda flat; not bad, but not amazing either.
I’ve seen Mudhoney more times than I can count, and they’re always on their game; Mark Arm is a great lead guy. Sorta Iggy Pop-ish without the random violence and with a better sense of humor.

He does not.
He’s a stay at home dad who I have known for many years, who just moved back to Seattle with his wife and new baby; he has no real connection to the music industry, it’s just that he and I went to almost every Fastbacks show between 1990 and when they broke up, and he’s more into meeting/hanging out with bands than I am so he became friends with Kurt and Kim a while back.

If the Mets or Snakes want Ibanez, then Pelekoudas should drive Ibanez to Sea-Tac. He’s worth something to an alleged NL Contender.

Depends where he is put defensively and what his role is, and who he's replacing.
He is almost certain to be overvalued—which is good assuming he is no longer Mr. Mariner.
by JI on Jul 14, 2008 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I can't imagine a single piece of our team being overvalued, but with his contract
he might be the only one. Maybe Shawn Green, oh and definetely Rhodes. Okay, so I hadn’t thought it through. I just fear we are going to get hosed around every corner. We can’t make change for a dollar at a bank, so to speak. I suppose it will take a few years for us to gain some credibility in the trading sector.
As much as we need his left handed bat, I don’t trust this org to be irrationally attached to him and go all ‘Kenji extension’ on us. Trade him now for what ever he’s worth. He’s got a good contract and solid MLB career numbers ‘on the back of his baseball card’. Now, guess what he’s got to do…that’s right…play up to those numbers…its that easy.
I feel like we end up saying this every fricken year, but we REALLY need to stock pile some left handed bats, Lee. How the hell can Oakland have two NEW lefties every year it seems? Clement/Raben is a start, but we need MORE. Are we destined to continually produce the Reed’s, LaHair’s, and Cruz Jr’s rather than the Giambi’s, Swisher’s, and who, Lansford’s? I know we produced on of the best lefties of all time, BUT we haven’t had much luck since he left. OTHER teams lefties don’t seem to have a problem hitting here. Now I’m just whining.
Not sure what to think about the Beltre rumors. He’s nearly irreplaceable, but 15 million can do wonders. I really don’t want us to trade him, though, not with his connection with red and being awesome and stuff.
