LL Softball; 7/20. This time it counts.

So we've taken one week off, and I missed getting the chance to play this weekend. Friday's Felix Bobblehead Night, Saturday's Turn Back the Clock Day (to the '80s!), and Sunday's the traditional softball day, so let's play ball!

What: LL Softball

When: Sunday, 7/20, 1pm

Where: Seattle U. Softball Field on 12th and Cherry, we'll probably jump the fence again if we have to.

Who's in?
8 Absolutely Confirmed Humans, Likely in the neighborhood of 12+ if the questionables come through, AND ONE UNSTOPPABLE FIELDING MACHINE

Massively out.

I have a softball doubleheader followed by a soccer doubleheader already scheduled.

by Matthew on Jul 13, 2008 8:20 PM PDT   0 recs

I may die during the soccer DH

in which case I should be pretty free going forward.

by Matthew on Jul 14, 2008 6:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

What league in their right mind does a soccer doubleheader?

Do they not understand what playing soccer entails?

by Gomez on Jul 14, 2008 6:24 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

And yeah I'm in

I better hit nothing but line drives though, because I doubt my bum ankle’s ability to beat out grounders against the Gomez Shift.

And if anyone’s waffling on going… it’s Baker’s last game before leaving!

by Gomez on Jul 14, 2008 10:43 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Just hit nothing but HR's

then you’ll only have to trot.

I'm in

barring any 11th hour changes to my move to NYC on the 25th, this will be my final LL softball game…

I don't see any reason I wouldn't be there.

I can all but guarantee Chad will want to play as well and there’s a chance our friend Ben may come too.

I’m doing really well guys, not sure how much i’ll be on. once a week maybe.

I’ve been getting email updates weekly on the team, and yeah, i feel the pain.

I love you all.

Wrong.

It’s in Ohio.

Ohio isn't so bad

I’ve lived in much worse states, like Florida.

Wooster's actually a nice little town

It’s not scenic but it’s clean, the people are friendly, the town itself is really quaint. If you like smallish but not too small towns Wooster is awesome

good to hear your all still around. unfortunatly i can only get around to this site weekly. if you guys want to keep in touch by email, brett and corco have my email, and they have my permission to give it out.

humidity sucks. ohio is nice and green, but man everyone smokes here. People are friendly, Wooster is way better then the little country podunk i was in for 4 1/2 months.

I might be in

It’s going to be a busy week, and I’m already tempted to spend Saturday resting up. Maybe, though.

by katal on Jul 14, 2008 10:12 AM PDT   0 recs

blast

I just realized that the 20th is Sunday, and not Saturday. I can’t make it, I already have tickets to the M’s game.

by katal on Jul 15, 2008 10:41 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm out.

It’s my only open weekend in July to try to get anything done around the house, plus Jeanuts will just be getting back from a trip to Nashville.

by Thingray on Jul 14, 2008 11:47 AM PDT   0 recs

Do you think we could invite RRS?

I know the M’s got a game and all, but it has often looked like they don’t even notice he’s there sometimes.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 14, 2008 2:52 PM PDT   0 recs

Hahaha

The guy likes Seattle, but I think that would screw things up and get him sent away.

noob here

you play softball every sunday?

by Smith18 on Jul 14, 2008 11:12 PM PDT   0 recs

Not every Sunday but we're not averse to doing these on any given Sunday

I’d say every couple Sundays, more frequently when possible. Depends on how many people can make it and are willing.

by Gomez on Jul 14, 2008 11:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

i might actually be going to the M's game this sunday...

but i’d definitely be interrested in “getting in on the action” (haha) when not watching. I played in college (recreational) and miss it

by Smith18 on Jul 15, 2008 12:14 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I'm mostly calling this one together

because I’m probably going to be out of town/busy in the couple weeks following this one. There was a period a few weeks ago where we went every other Sunday and then Baker had to screw it up by having a birthday.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 15, 2008 9:08 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sunday games make me sad. :(

by Phildopip on Jul 15, 2008 11:58 AM PDT   0 recs

I mean, I’m still playing, even if we don’t get into the teens, but I’d like to see those numbers.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 16, 2008 2:07 PM PDT   0 recs

I'm sure there are a couple of stragglers out there

But there are a number of outs that are usually ins.

by Gomez on Jul 16, 2008 2:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sorry guys, busy weekend.

I had a blast last time though, I’ll have to make another one of these sometime. It’s just tough to get down from Everett with everything I have going on these days.

If not I may just use my tickets for the M’s game.

Ok, I'm in. Maybe.

So I have to work a graveyard shift the night before, but I get off at 7ish in the morning. I plan on going home and taking a nap, and IF I manage to wake up in time, I’ll head down. I live on first hill so it won’t be tough to get there. I might oversleep, it’s known to happen. But I’m going to try.

Also, if I do come I might be able to bring a buddy. Woohoo.

by AtomicGarden on Jul 16, 2008 6:11 PM PDT   0 recs

WOOHOO

As someone who has worked graveyard extensively in his lifetime, I know that getting sleep in the AM after a shift like that isn’t the easiest thing to do, but go for it, and we hope you can make it!

by Gomez on Jul 16, 2008 7:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Even if you don't wake up ON TIME on time

if you roll in at around 3, we’ll probably still be out there playing.

I'll do my best to be there

But my gf is running a Triathlon that morning, so I may either be late, dead tired from getting up at 5 am to cheer, or dead from getting up at 5 am to cheer.

My cousin, roomate and another friend also expressed interest in coming, but they’re generally slackass slackers.

by Smegmalicious on Jul 19, 2008 6:51 PM PDT   0 recs

Good luck to your gf then.

Triathlons are tough as hell (I’d imagine). I can’t swim well though, but I bet they’d be tough as hell no matter what. Who’d want to run after swimming and biking? Biking should be last, it’s easier to do when tired.

by LantermanC on Jul 19, 2008 9:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Swimming should be last

Then the weak would drown and the species would be stronger for it!

by Smegmalicious on Jul 19, 2008 11:48 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well I'll probably be just going to the M's game since there's not enough for a real game.

You guys can do BP and fungos without me.

I hurt.

6 hours was too much for me. Still, I had a great time playing our makeshift game and kicking the ever loving shit out of that other team!

by Smegmalicious on Jul 20, 2008 6:57 PM PDT   0 recs

I was being nice.

They were pretty good, and I’d say just skill wise they were maybe a tick below us, but I think all the hitting and practicing we’d been doing just gave us an edge. We just hit really well.

Saying you beat someone bad is just stating what happened.

Also, I’m a jerk, so…yeah. Sorry if I offended.

Had I been able to rob

that 3-R HR in center at the end, I think the score would’ve been 20ish-1 or something for our nerdy bloggers from LL :p

I do think that the earlier two games did allow us to hit a bit better in the last game we played.

We did really seem to heat up in the second game. Maybe the baseballs gave us greater self-confidence?

by wwbaker3 on Jul 21, 2008 12:15 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I was surprised we played as well against them as we did

That said, they admitted they were rusty and it was their first time this summer playing… so if we saw them again in a few weeks, I’d bet they’d play a lot better. Also, as someone else mentioned, before they arrived we had been throwing, hitting and fielding for a few hours, so we were more warmed up than they were.

by Gomez on Jul 20, 2008 9:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

As I was the only LL person left

I played with them for another hour or so.

Hit a softball HR! : )

They’re really cool people. Apparently they play in the Underdog Softball league, and they invite us to play with them again. They usually practice around that time on Saturdays or Sundays…will have to find out later…maybe one of them will show up here and let us know.

I'm totally down

We should take a straw poll on availability. 2Rs2Ls had mentioned being out of town in a couple weeks, so let’s make sure the next day works for as many as possible.

by Gomez on Jul 20, 2008 10:28 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

True...

we were hitting pretty awful that first game, softballs or not.
But yeah, today was a blash, 5 hours of fun is always great, though I’m a bit burnt, and my legs feel like a truck ran over them…
See you guys for next LL Softball. If it’s between August 16th and Sept 6th, I might bring my twin brother.

by LantermanC on Jul 20, 2008 9:58 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

This turned out way more awesome than even I thought it would

I mean… I was sure it would be alright, but didn’t realize we’d be able to run a full 5 on 5 game (and thanks to Smeg for advising us of good ground rules to set it up… even if game one was the lowest scoring game in LL Softball history)... but that we’d run into those dudes that allowed us to play a full 10 on 10 game. And from what they’ve said, they like to come out each weekend, so chances are good we may run into them again and be able to get another full game going. This day exceeded my expectations by far.

I know Two R’s and Two L’s will be out of town one weekend, but I’d like to see another one put together. Hopefully we can get one on a weekend when the M’s are out of town and other people’s schedules are free, and we can get an even bigger turnout at the next softball game. At the least, it now looks like as few as 8-10 people can get an actual game going, which is great because I know low attendance deterred some people from going because they didn’t think we could get a game going.

by Gomez on Jul 20, 2008 8:21 PM PDT   0 recs

I know this coming weekend and maybe the following weekend will look bad

But the third weekend from now could work. I really want to do this, I miss LL softball.

I'm out of town for the first week of august.

So I’m out for those two weekends. If I can get my cousin reading this blog, he’ll be in probably.

Also, I’m going to take a picture of my hamburgerified hand. It’s kind of bad.
