The pitchers I used to hate were so much more fun than the pitchers I hate now. Oh, Gil, you and your brain were always so wacky...

Speaking of Gil, anyone still think we missed out by not re-signing him to a big deal? Because his tRA is currently worse than Brett Tomko's.

Strasburg

Why the fuck do I keep doing that

by Gomez on Jul 12, 2008 3:45 PM PDT up reply actions

I never thought Gil Meche was a bad player

But I find it hard to believe that anybody could be upset that we didn’t offer more than 5 years and 55 million. Are there actually people out there that consider that a problem? For a two or three years and like 4 or 5 mil a year, I’d probably have kept him. Unfortunately that’s just not what mediocre pitching costs. Unless it’s young, but of course, as the entire Mariner front office knows, young pitching is terrible and inconsistent. If only there was a way to take young, cheap pitching and make it way older, way more expensive and not as good. I’m predicting in about four years, the Mariners sign Cha Seung Baek to a four year $40 mil deal and bring back Gil at 4 years, $60 mil cuz you know, he’s gonna want a pay increase.

In last night's case

I think it was just the thread that everyone seemed to post there at once, which quickly turned off topic and a bunch of youtube links. Its unfortunate the author of the fanpost took offense and deleted the thread. I am not sure how tonight will work out, if there is one.

Fuck you whoever let Sexson go and not Vidro.

I like Grudz

I think if we’re going to get not too expensive veterans who don’t suck and can play good defense, we should get guys like him.

by LantermanC on Jul 12, 2008 4:33 PM PDT reply actions

What happened to that 1b

that the Royals had that they traded for from Colorado? Big Hulking slow dude who never hit for enough power.

by LantermanC on Jul 12, 2008 4:34 PM PDT reply actions

Dammit, Washburn's trade value is going to diminish

since his rep to go deep into games will probably not hold up do to this 35 or so pitch inning.

by LantermanC on Jul 12, 2008 4:36 PM PDT reply actions

Not all his fault.

Vidro messed up the first play. Teahen could’ve GIDP, but ended up being only one out. And then.. Grudz just had a good swing, and Gordon got lucky and fought one off. Or at least that’s what I’d tell an opposing scout/gm who was looking at J-Rod.

by LantermanC on Jul 12, 2008 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Man... if Washburn can't throw strikes..

he’s not very good, who would’ve thought?

Hay Rays,

You are too far from Strasburg.

apparently Marmol sucked it up, and took away Harden’s first NL win.

OH HAI

Back from Mexico, with new supplies of tequila and rum.

Good to see the M’s have inexhaustible supplies of suck, though.

by eponymous_coward on Jul 12, 2008 5:08 PM PDT reply actions

Derr.

Though honestly, I rather liked the Flor de Caña rum the most. 7 year dark Nicaraguan rum. MMMMMMM.

It helps when you’re watching Jarrod Washburn suck and Jose Vidro bat fourth.

by eponymous_coward on Jul 12, 2008 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions

You are AWESOME.

Nica Flor de Cana is my absolute drink of choice. Sipping it on ice…unfortunately I finished my bottle a couple weeks ago. I would fall at your feet for that bottle.
(This is why I didn’t ask about the rum—figured it was crap compared to FdC)

Heh.

I also have a trip to $Texas and a promised trip to a liquor store with 40 yard long shelves of tequila…

Speaking of Tequila, I picked up some Patron Reposado.

My view of Tequila changed dramatically, so much so that I’m looking forward to my next rendezvous with it.

by LantermanC on Jul 12, 2008 5:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Patron's not shabby.

I drank a lot of Don Julio- blanco in the margaritas, reposado for sipping. I also drank membrillo, which is a tequila liqueur with quince. It is simply awesome over ice.

by eponymous_coward on Jul 12, 2008 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions

That's not very hard...

I could point to piles of dog poop in my backyard that are more awesome than this game…

by LantermanC on Jul 12, 2008 5:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Way to help with the Hunt for Red Strasburg AND improve your trade value.

3 OBSERVATIONS

1) Washburn shakes off Johjima’s call 95% of the time

2) Ichiro and Kansas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtImIqR5neU

3) Vidro should be slapped in the face and run out of Seattle

It is funny.

When we’re wrong, it’s “Ha ha you’re wrong!”

When they’re wrong, they bitch about the player they wanted to get sucking, and how stupid the front office was for getting them (ala Bedard).

When we’re right, they just ignore it or say “Whatever, they’re still usually wrong” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I don’t think I’ll ever get it.

It's funny how casual fans work.

My friend who’s been an M’s fan for as long as he’s been alive hates the entire “Moneyball” philosophy. Refuses to listen to me when I talk player evaluation. Lives by grit and chemistry.

He’s been singing the praises of Morrow the closer since Putz went down. Now he’s screaming for Morrow to be sent to Tacoma.
