7/12: Open Game Thread
Seattle Mariners at Kansas City Royals, Jul 12, 2008 4:10 PM PDT
The pitchers I used to hate were so much more fun than the pitchers I hate now. Oh, Gil, you and your brain were always so wacky...
Speaking of Gil, anyone still think we missed out by not re-signing him to a big deal? Because his tRA is currently worse than Brett Tomko's.

Tuglett gets the start at DH for this game. Vidro plays first base.

Ahahaha I didn't think you could get any more hilarious than Vidro batting cleanup
But Hulett as DH in the same game? Awesome.

Except him being successful in that endeavor is good for the future GM.
It’s very very bad for keeping your job.
Howie and Chuck can't identify sunk costs.
I don’t think they know what’s good and what’s bad at all.
I never thought Gil Meche was a bad player
But I find it hard to believe that anybody could be upset that we didn’t offer more than 5 years and 55 million. Are there actually people out there that consider that a problem? For a two or three years and like 4 or 5 mil a year, I’d probably have kept him. Unfortunately that’s just not what mediocre pitching costs. Unless it’s young, but of course, as the entire Mariner front office knows, young pitching is terrible and inconsistent. If only there was a way to take young, cheap pitching and make it way older, way more expensive and not as good. I’m predicting in about four years, the Mariners sign Cha Seung Baek to a four year $40 mil deal and bring back Gil at 4 years, $60 mil cuz you know, he’s gonna want a pay increase.

In last night's case
I think it was just the thread that everyone seemed to post there at once, which quickly turned off topic and a bunch of youtube links. Its unfortunate the author of the fanpost took offense and deleted the thread. I am not sure how tonight will work out, if there is one.

Dammit Royals, shell Washburn.
Regress the shit out of him.
20 pitches, no outs.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Or twenty pitches, one out.
Oh well. REGRESS!
I like Grudz
I think if we’re going to get not too expensive veterans who don’t suck and can play good defense, we should get guys like him.
What happened to that 1b
that the Royals had that they traded for from Colorado? Big Hulking slow dude who never hit for enough power.
Dammit, Washburn's trade value is going to diminish
since his rep to go deep into games will probably not hold up do to this 35 or so pitch inning.
Not all his fault.
Vidro messed up the first play. Teahen could’ve GIDP, but ended up being only one out. And then.. Grudz just had a good swing, and Gordon got lucky and fought one off. Or at least that’s what I’d tell an opposing scout/gm who was looking at J-Rod.
I know! We should've traded him last week..
Vidro stopped the dp with his fat ass tryiing to get the ground ball.
Hey Graham, I'm going to golf at Willows run

Patron's not shabby.
I drank a lot of Don Julio- blanco in the margaritas, reposado for sipping. I also drank membrillo, which is a tequila liqueur with quince. It is simply awesome over ice.

I should try sipping it. My friend and I used shot glasses for consumption.
Lick salt, chug a shot and follow it up with a slice of lime. That was our routine last night while lurking in the Club LL thread.

When they’re wrong, they bitch about the player they wanted to get sucking, and how stupid the front office was for getting them (ala Bedard).
When we’re right, they just ignore it or say “Whatever, they’re still usually wrong” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

My friend who’s been an M’s fan for as long as he’s been alive hates the entire “Moneyball” philosophy. Refuses to listen to me when I talk player evaluation. Lives by grit and chemistry.

It's easy to mock these guys, but just remember: one of them was running our FO until last month.
