Mariners acquire Craig Wilson

Star-divide

Per Yahoo, two minutes ago:

"PITTSBURGH (AP)—On a busy day in the Pirates’ minor league system, the team traded former starting outfielder Craig Wilson to the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named on Thursday.

Wilson was hitting .230 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs at Triple-A Indianapolis."

Sexson replacement? Wilson is at least a better defender at first than Richie was.

Wait, what?

When the hell did this happen?

by BrianL on Jul 10, 2008 5:18 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, no kidding.

Those are pretty much Richie’s stats, but in Triple A. Sure he’s probably better at fielding, but is it really going to make much (or any) of a difference?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Vidro released once LeHair is healthy.

But I would like a Wlad —> LF, Ibanez --> DH move much more.

I hope they'll come to their senses

And either move Ichiro back to CF or move him to LF and put Wlad in right. I don’t like the idea of Wladdy in left with his pretty suspect defense.

I have a feling WLAD is not a part of the M's outfield of the future

Michael Saunders. Greg Halman. And Ichiro probably stays in RF.

2009 will probably be a year of placeholder OFs, but I suspect the aforementioned two will come up in the next year or two.

Okay, "good" may have been a stretch.

I checked a couple metrics that had him about average for 1st basemen, so… better than Richie, at least.

Heh...

Included in the Wilson story…The Pirates also acquired right-hander Dan Reichert and infielder-outfielder Ryan Mulhern from the Indians, also for a player to be named.

Go Reichert!

Nice use of “zomg” though. I still have no idea why that’s still funny to me, but dammit it is.

It's my favorite meme by far.

That’s assuming Surprised Face doesn’t qualify as a meme.

Awesome news.

Any word on John Stephens and Erubiel Durazo?

I remember when that fucker played for Spokane
Quinn’s 45 career home runs surpassed fellow Royals alumnus Jamie Quirk’s total of 43, giving him the most home runs all time for a player who’s last name begins with a “Q”.

How the hell did he get his own commercial?

See what JI started by dropping the periods?

Forget Mark Quinn

What about that Mark Hamelin kid? He’s sure to win ROY
