So it's not quite Felix Day, but as temporary replacements go, I can't imagine a cooler one. RRS' average fastball so far this year has clocked in at 89.0mph. If he can hover around 87-88 for the duration of his three- or four-inning assignment tonight while still getting a handful of swinging strikes, then that'll be an encouraging sign going forward should the team give any thought to making him a starter. Even if his true talent out of the rotation is only a high-4's tRA, getting that for close to the league minimum would make him a hell of a value, so I'm all for trying to stretch him out whenever possible. It's the prudent thing to do. I mean, you have to find out, right? Right?

Question:

what, if any, are the significant differences between Litsch and Silva? I mean other than the 70lb by which one outweighs the other?

It's easy to DFA your No. 9 hitter

But isn’t it a bit tougher when he’s hitting 4 so close to the event?

by resipsa on Jul 1, 2008 6:36 PM PDT reply actions

I'm so glad we have Leonard Weaver.

If we didn’t, the loss of Mack Strong last season would have been devastating for me.

by BrianL on Jul 1, 2008 6:47 PM PDT up reply actions

He is your fullback right?

The Saints have a super under-rated fullback named Mike Karney. It is easy to be under-rated when you have to hare field time with Deuce and Reggie, and 3 wide receiver sets.

by thewyrm on Jul 1, 2008 6:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, replaced Strong after the neck injury ended his career.

Completely different back, though. Strong was one of those blue-collar blocking backs who could absolutely level a D-back. Weaver is a much more pass/rush oriented fullback. Although, if Weaver’s blocking can improve at all, he’ll be one hell of a backfield player.

I won’t lie, though. I’m secretly praying for a Schmitt/Weaver backfield to be rolled out a few times. That would make defensive backs piss themselves.

by BrianL on Jul 1, 2008 6:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm most psyched because it sounds like Sean Payton may have found another Marques Colston.

He gets shit because his songs, when compared to Lennon/McCartney and Harrison

are just not as good. Granted, a crap Beatles song is better than 90% of every other artist’s best stuff, but still.

I have seriously had this argument about a zillion times.

My side, distilled:

1) They’re certainly great at what it was they did.
2) They’re massively influential.
3) I have a tremendous amount of respect for their talent as musicians and songwriters.
4) Lots of people love them.
5) I don’t.
6) Taste is subjective.

My hatred has developed after years of people telling me that I have bad taste in music because I don’t like the Beatles.

As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball.

by Aaron Campeau on Jul 1, 2008 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions

That's no reason to hate the Beatles.

by BrianL on Jul 1, 2008 7:10 PM PDT up reply actions

This is like the Derek Jeter argument.

I don’t hate Derek Jeter. I hate the media fawning inappropriately over Derek Jeter. However, it is easier to just say Derek Jeter sucks and I hate him.

Lots and lots and lots of different kinds.

60’s garage/psychedelia is my favorite, followed closely by 80’s post-punk, early hardcore, late 80’s/early 90’s noise, pre-1980s country, ska/rocksteady and all points in between. Lots of stuff. Just not the Beatles.

Also, the Melvins.

One thing I never liked was that Paul never took as many chances as Lennon.
