Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

I got into an argument yesterday with someone

who believes that the only important pitching stats are saves, wins, and ERA.

Miguel batista is fucking horrible

65.1 IP, 44 BB, 40 K

I know he’s given up a few more hits than expected, but sweet baby Jesus how can they continue to run him out there?

by JI on Jun 8, 2008 9:37 AM PDT reply actions

He's had two good games the entire year

and the injury start was the meat in the good start sandwich.

by JI on Jun 8, 2008 9:59 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't think he's right.

He really can’t locate his stuff and his velocity is down. It screams “pitching through injury” to me.

by eponymous_coward on Jun 8, 2008 10:00 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

well it’s not like he was Bob Tewksbury to begin with.

by JI on Jun 8, 2008 10:01 AM PDT up reply actions

He's admitted as much.

His groin is still bothering him.

by Matthew on Jun 8, 2008 10:09 AM PDT up reply actions

And this being the Mariners

we’re going to let the veterans suck ass through injuries and being gritty instead of insisting on them being healthy (see: Raul last year).

:(

So Bonderman is out for the season

Meaning Detroit’s rotation will be:

Justin Verlander
Kenny Rogers
Nate Robertson
Andres Gallaraga
Dontrelle Willis

And they’re only 3.5 games back of us in the Strasburg Series….Uh oh

Cancer sounds awesome

I’m glad you circumvented nature and managed to survive and spread your clearly defective genetic material on thus watering down our species even further.

by Matthew on Jun 8, 2008 10:16 AM PDT up reply actions

Geoff Baker is still occasionally awesome.
Willie Bloomquist gets the nod at second base today, while Jose Lopez gets to keep his bat in the lineup as the DH. Is Bloomquist now Erik Bedard’s personal second baseman? God, I hope not.

No one cares about your knocked up wife Kreuger.

And your wife is a bitch for appealing to her pregnancy. What, just because she forgot her pills, she’s should be we can no longer heckle her? I call bullshit.

RUBBER MATCH

Can’t believe nobody’s said that so far…

Then again, it’d only be called that if both teams have a believable shot at a win.

I believe we can thank chinn for making this one. It's so perfect.

My favorite touch is the little “inoperative” in the upper left corner. Must’ve been in the original.

By the way, don't feel too bad about the M's today.

My other favorite team is about to get pwned by BARRY ZITO, most likely. Now THAT’S shameful.

The Nationals called up a new pitcher for today's game

He seems to have developed a brilliant system for handing the Giants’ offense. Allow a single, then induce a GIDP or force out. Third time so far in two innings. I’m really looking forward to seeing him try and carry this off the whole game.

by esoteric on Jun 8, 2008 10:56 AM PDT reply actions

Our starting pitching is actually decent enough.

It’s the offense that’s ridiculously bad.

But we promoted Zimmerman insanely fast back in 2005. He signed in June, and he was up by September, maybe even August.

by esoteric on Jun 8, 2008 11:00 AM PDT up reply actions

What about Lahair?

I heard he was our best prospect!

by joof on Jun 8, 2008 11:06 AM PDT up reply actions

Yes I know this.

I don’t care though, I’d rather watch someone else be crappy but more exciting. Raul, Vidro, sing Scott Hatteberg, trade Rob Johnson for Griffey, LaHair, Adam Moore, stick Saunders over there, stick Ichiro over there and put Reed in center, I don’t know, anything, I’m just tired of walking that sack of shit play. There’s plenty of bad people on the team we don’t have replacements for, but I’m just so sick of watching that guy be paid big money to play poorly, I’d rather watch a slightly more interesting player play poorly if that makes any sense….we’re going to lose anyway, might as well do it in a new and exciting fashion.

by marinator on Jun 8, 2008 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

No, I was actually referring to the Nats game.

But amazingly, the new pitcher (prospect Garrett Mock) just managed to get the Giants to line into ANOTHER double play. He really does seem to have a system involving giving up a hit and then getting the DP. It’s hilarious – the Giants are outhitting the Nats 6-4 and yet we’re up 2-0.

by esoteric on Jun 8, 2008 11:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Significantly better than us (M's version of "us").

Although the Nats just tacked another run on Zito.

After getting the shit kicked out of us (Nats version of “us”) last night, I’d like to win one from this supposedly shit team.
