Youk vs. Manny
So sources are saying that the cause of the fight between Youkilis and Manny was the result of Youkilis having a bad at-bat. Seems that whenever he has a bad at-bat he comes back to the dugout and throws a little temper tantrum tossing his helmet and bats and things like that. Well Manny being Manny thought it was selfish of Youk to be so worried about one at-bat in a game they were winning, and decided to intervene and that's when things blew up. Evidently the rest of the team feels pretty much the same way that when Youk gets that upset he's being "selfish" and not being a "team player."
So if I get this straight have a bad at bat but brush it off, don't take some much pride in your work that you get pissy and throw a tantrum, cause then you're just being selfish? That's a head-scratcher to me..... isn't trying to do your best in every at-bat the ultimate sign of a team player? I'm sooo confused!

Frustration can carry over to others' performance.
When you do it after every at-bat, you can become a very unenjoyable person to be around. If you can get Manny angry, think of how the other players feel. Youk should probably tone it down so his teammates don’t have to hear his tantrums, especially in a game you are winning.
Agreed
tantrums have a time and a place…. but I don’t agree that they equal being a selfish player vs. a team player.

This is true
Negativity is contagious, and it affects everyone around him in a negative way. Once in awhile is understandable, but it seems like he’s doing this every bad at bat.
This is true in my work situation as well. Once someone gets pissed, it affects everyone until we just want him to shut his/her mouth and get back to work.
But cynicism is uplifting.
Trust me. I’m probably lying.

Sure negativity is contagious
but isn’t not caring also contagious? I see no problem with it personally. Some pitchers, runners, boxers, players, whatever, don’t like to be talked to the day before a game/match/race, I wouldn’t consider this “anti-social” behavior selfish, if they used it as a way to help them play better. I kind of think letting someone’s little rituals over-affect you and asking them to stop as being selfish.

That's a great point.
How annoying must it have been for Manny to notice it? I’m not sure Manny’s always aware he plays on a team.

So Youk is the Red Sox version of Paul O'Neill?
You’d think the Irish one was the Red Sox and the Jewish one was the Yankee.
Didn't O'Neil just talk to himself after striking out?
I remember watching him and being very, very creeped out.
I remember him throwing his helmet, cursing in the dugout, etc.
on those Yankee teams I really dislike. I could be wrong – he’s been out of the game for a while. It could be one of those things like how I forgot how good Shawn Kemp really was before he got fat.
O'Neil was very Youk like.

Yeah I saw a northwest top 10
and Shawn Kemp was way up there, and I was like WTF??
Apparently I missed his glory days, and all I honestly remember of him was him rotting on the benches and his veteran presence. On teams like the Knicks and 76ers or something.
This is all the space your sig should occupy.
The Payton-Kemp heyday was incredible.
Shawn Kemp was the man in those days.

If that happened on the M's
People would be blaming the next 15 loses on it (and not on the quality of play). RS win, so it’ll blow over.
If Youk had been hurt in that exchange Lugo would have had to play RF.
That would have been entertaining.
