Celtics vs Lakers (game thread?)
Don't know if anyone else is interested, but if any one wants to chat about the NBA finals game one, here's a spot for you.
I'm rooting for the Celtics, but I'm really not sure I like their odds of winning. KG and Ray Allen deserve a championship IMHO (especially KG).
On a related note, James Taylor doing an acoustic guitar version of the national anthem? That seems like a reach to me, and I like James Taylor.

I'm here and rooting for the C's
because I despise the Lakers. Absolutely despise them.

I hate the Lakers too, and have always liked the C's for some reason.
I like midgets more than I should.

I went to school in Lakerland. Some of my best friends that I watch hoops with call me to talk about the Lakers
despite knowing that I hate them. I really, really, really, really want them to lose

I'm probably a California kid for life now because I love SD and OC too much
but there’s no way I’ll ever give up the Seattle teams, ever.

I admire your dedication.
Especially with how the M’s and Sonics have been lately.

Meh. I grew up with 1995
After that there’s no way you can give up the Mariners.
I was on the fence with the Sonics until the lottery – I just happened to watch with my roommate who’s from Portland. When the Hawks logo came out of that #3 envelope… I jumped so high I hit my head on the ceiling

I remember watching the Sonics win the championship,
so I’ve been suffering with Seattle teams for quite some time.

Something about "this is where we expected to be. But not where we want to be. Uh... I'm out of words"
in a monotone. It was not inspiring. Thankfully for Doc, he has KG to scream and yell a lot and get his teammates fired up.

Doc doesn't exactly impress me.
I just hope he stays out of the way and doesn’t screw anything up.

Usually, let the star get his...
but Kobe’s a different animal. I’d say let him get his… but make him shoot.
Also, Doc has Ray Allen on Kobe. This might get bad early

Pau Gasol has no chance against KG when he’s aggressive on the block

OK, so I am discussing with my friend
Paul Pierce has a legitimate case as one of the five best players in the NBA.
Agree/disagree
by seattlebruin on Jun 5, 2008 7:58 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Disagree
Guys who are maybe better
1. Kobe
2. Dirk
3. Timmay
4. Dwade
5. Lebron
6. Arenas(?)
7. KG
I don’t really know though and I think I’m being swayed mostly by hype
by Last Fan Of Jose Lopez on Jun 5, 2008 8:04 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Disagree
Just on the basis that, when I think elite players, Pierce doesn’t come to mind. This is who comes to mind:
Bryant
D. Howard
D-WAYNE Wade
James
CP3
KG
by oreotree on Jun 5, 2008 8:05 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would've included Timmay
But I realized he currently isn’t one of the top 5 because its more that the Duncan/Ginobili/Parker three-headed monster is much much MUCH more
by oreotree on Jun 5, 2008 8:09 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I can't have D-wade on this list
despite him being one of my favorite players. He just hasn’t progressed overall as a player.
The only two I had unequivocally above Pierce were Bryant and Duncan. For our criterion, we said that a player had to be “clearly superior overall as a basketball player” which is why we didn’t count Wade, LBJ or CP3 – those guys are simply not the type that I considered “absolute no brainers” above Pierce
by seattlebruin on Jun 5, 2008 8:12 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really?
Not LBJ at least? I realize he has all the hype, but he has taken his team further than Pierce. CP3 is probably a little early, yes, but he will be better. Wade’s hard to judge from this year just because it was so shitty that everyone gave up.
by oreotree on Jun 5, 2008 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I just think Wade has regressed as a player, injuries or no
and I think the thing with both LeBron and Wade is that they haven’t developed as shooters.
CP3 was very close, but I have concerns about his on ball defense – for me, Pierce’s D is a HUGE plus for him. No question that Paul has the potential – I think he’s very close even as a below average—> on ball defender. Playing the passing lanes makes it up a bit for him but…
LeBron just hasn’t really progressed. He’s a great player for sure, and I’d probably take him over Pierce… but I’d have to think about it first.
by seattlebruin on Jun 5, 2008 8:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I can't argue much about this year
Most of this is off the gut. I don’t think Wade regressed, but his supporting cast sure did, and I think his stock just regressed back towards its true value, since now he is the unequivocal star. LBJ I just think that, even without the outside shot, he’s done alot for the Cavs. Pierce just never seemed to be able to take his team far, regardless of talent. I think that ability to advance in the postseason makes up a huge portion of a player’s skill.
by oreotree on Jun 5, 2008 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Now if this was the Eastern Conference Finals
It’d be 55-52. I’m glad that’s over with.

Game Celtics
I still haven’t figured out who to root for
by oreotree on Jun 5, 2008 8:53 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Well, Kobe is a giant d-bag.
Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are all veterans who have spent the vast majority of their careers with losing teams. I’m rooting for the Celtics based on that alone.

he played pretty well with it banged up, why change what’s working? I’m so happy I escaped the office in time to catch most of the second half on TV. Meh... I sprained my knee pretty good last year playing ball
hurt like hell at first, but I was able to play the rest of the day on it.
That night though, it swelled up like crazy and I could barely walk for a week. Although I’m sure Paul Pierce has much better medical assistance available to him than I did…
by seattlebruin on Jun 6, 2008 12:38 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's my fear is that it will actually get worse before it gets better. They have great doctors though.
I did the same thing with my ankle. Hurt it in the first game of a softball double header, played through the pain to finish both games, then couldn’t even stand up the next morning. I ended up missing three weeks of work (I was doing construction at the time).
