Progress
Everyone remember Geoff Baker and how hard it was to get him to take defensive stats seriously?
Well...

Some ills that have ailed the Mariners are easier to diagnose than others. Four regular starters are hitting .236 or poorer, including Jose Vidro and Adrian Beltre, Wednesday's fourth and fifth hitters. Three-fifths of the rotation has an ERA of 5.90 or higher. And the Mariners rank last in the American League in defensive efficiency.
I can remember the 1980's, when on-base percentage and slugging percentage weren't well known compared to batting average. Progress, folks, progress.

Well, sort of....
This is like a baby step by a newborn gazelle after the cheetah has already caught it and brought it home for the cubs to practice killing.

And dont forget
that the gazelle’s entire family has already been killed too, and his old family in Toronto is actually doing much better.

I'm sure Baker is reading this
and thinking, “Oh goody” ... finally some of the other bloggers sort of like me.

well Dave and Derek have defended him a lot
in the past, if i remember correctly. I know a lot of readers are hard on him, but at least the bloggers at USSM seem to like him

If I were Baker
the patronizing tone of most of the contributors to this blog (especially those who mostly just cut and paste the arguments of people like Graham, Jeff and Matthew) would be enough to make me never come back.
This makes me sad because I would love it if Jeff felt comfortable actually posting over here. And maybe attending a LL Softball Game.

I think he's a fantastic beat writer.
His columns and blog posts are much, much better when he’s not trying to do a whole lot of analysis, because he’s usually trying to use numbers to disprove arguments of people who know a lot more about said numbers than he does, and he ends up looking kinda’ bad sometimes.
Also, he takes a somewhat hostile tone towards people who disagree with him sometimes, but as johnbai said below, when you’re dealing with the kinds of crap he has to put up with, it probably gets kind of hard not to.
